Cool idea, conceptually speaking, and I do approve. I think it has a low chance of being implemented, mainly because healing powers are considered to be essentially unnecessary in this game (not by me- I still appreciate them- but it's a commonly held position among the player base).

Is Force Mastery considered sub-par on Blasters?
Triumphant replied to Sou1catcher's topic in Blaster
I believe the answer is yes. I'm not sure what the particular reason for that is, though. I'm not a very dedicated power-builder, so my knowledge in this area is sadly defincient, I'm afraid. Having said that, I HAVE taken Force Master on a blaster and have enjoyed it. If the set appeals to you, take it for a test drive. If you don't like it you can always respec at a later date. -
I do get your enthusiasm. Those clothes are really great looking costume pieces and I would also love to have them (Along with a long list of other options). I think we just have to be patient, as Homecoming is a small team that is prioritizing mechanics over aesthetics in their project list (which I think is reasonable, considering).

One of the best defensive sets in the game- especially if you hate running out of endurance. 👍

Honestly, she probably just could have gone in with Hopkins and the two of them could've taken care of it themselves. I mean, have you ever fought those two? Holy crap. 😬 But, why break a sweat when she could send Hero 1 and company to take care of her light work? 😁

Huh. That's one of my favorite melee sets. Weird. But, such things are subjective, I suppose. 🤷♂️

Homecoming Code of Conduct Update - May 13th, 2021
Triumphant replied to Jimmy's topic in Announcements
On the one hand, you're right, of course. On the other hand, I do wonder what you and MrWrk are worried about. I'm not saying there isn't something to be worried about, mind you. I'm just wondering what the something could be. 🤔 -
Marvel's "What If?" series

My opinion: Writing was great. Animation was great. Voice acting was great. Looking forward to the next episode. -
Giving players a LIKE or THUMBS UP for Costumes!
Triumphant replied to Phanto's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
On the one hand, that's likely true. But, on the other hand... man, you've got to have some serious narcissism to put that much effort into it. 😛 -
Things that make it easy to want to log in…
Triumphant replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Lately, chasing badges has made me eager to log in. It's not something I really tried- or even thought much about, until recently. Chasing badges has proven to be more engaging than I thought it would be. What got me started on it was the idea of getting those passive accolade powers, but I was surprised at just how challenging it can be (for example) to get the Taskforce Commander badge solo. Those supervillains can be incredibly tough to fight by yourself, even set at +0/1. I tried Manticore TF last night and couldn't beat Hopkins without picking up some cheaty boosts from P2W. THEN, when I finally beat him, I realize I have to beat him again- along with Countess Crey. *GULP* It was quite satisfying when I finally succeeded (albeit, I did have to cheat pretty aggressively with those P2W boosts). I only have two more task forces to complete and then I get my badge/accolade. There are just a lot of things in the game to keep you occupied and engaged. Badge hunting alone may keep me going for years, as I reckon there are probably a thousand or more badges, and I haven't even collected 200 yet. I also recently joined a super group that seems really cool. I'm looking forward to getting more involved with that as I settle in. 👍 -
Things that make it hard to want to log in
Triumphant replied to mechahamham's topic in General Discussion
Yep, that's a totally reasonable position. I do try to run down and neutralize all of my knockbacked foes, though sometimes it's difficult to track them in the scrum. I can understand moving onto the next spawn to avoid chasing around the pinballs if that annoys you. 👍 -
Yep. As Virtual Green said, it's under Chest Detail / Symbols. Void Sanction is the name- scroll down to the bottom of the tab to find it.

Things that make it hard to want to log in
Triumphant replied to mechahamham's topic in General Discussion
If I'm in a group, I will often try to get directly above the foe when I use my knockback powers (I love knockback. Bouncing enemies around is super fun), but I don't get TOO worried about mitigating my knockback effects. In narrow fighting spaces, like tunnels and such, I can't get over the foe, so this is unavoidable and my nuke seems to send them flying, regardless of where I fire it from. Masterminds annoy me, because all the minions running around blinds me and makes targeting and maneuvering in fights confusing for me. I don't ask masterminds to not use their pets though- or to leave the group. They have the right to enjoy the game their way. They aren't obligated to play something else or not use a particular aspect of a power that they enjoy because it bothers me. If you really, REALLY hate knockback, you need to play a controller with a good lockdown ability, like earth control. If you don't like to play controllers, well... then I think you just need to grin and bear it (the knockback, I mean), honestly. JMO. -
NEW EMOTES: Smoking, Drinking Wine & Beer
Triumphant replied to AbraCadavre's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Cool idea. Seems easy enough to implement with existing assets. As a dedicated beer-drinker IRL, I've often wanted to RP kicking back with a cold one, in-game. I also run a fair number of toons that smoke cigars (although, oddly, unlike beer, I loathe the smell of tobacco IRL and have never smoked anything. Go figure).- 3 replies

The cycle ending, and beginning again...?
Triumphant replied to Black Talon's topic in General Discussion
This could be correct. I guess we'll see. Most people looking to try something new would rather go forwards than backwards, though- and so I think they will not arrive at City of Heroes unless they exhaust other, more modern options. The next year or so should give us an idea of what (if any) impact there may be. -
I always write one, eventually. Sometimes I come up with a look and a power concept for a character, but haven't got the background details worked out. Until I get those solidly fixed in my brain, I'll just put (WIP) in the field. Now, as to the why of it? CoX is (for me) very much an RPG experience. Granted, I rarely RP in pickup groups (unless the other members of the group are doing it- I don't want to make random teammates uncomfortable with my play-acting. 😄), but even when playing solo I'm imagining myself as the character that I'm playing. I've been into tabletop RPG's as a hobby for so long now, that it's almost second nature to me. That's my reason. If anyone else doesn't like to do it, that's cool. Not everyone is into roleplaying, so to each their own. This game can accommodate a lot of play styles so feel free to enjoy it your way. 😎👍

All these additions would be well received, I think. In fact, I'm relatively sure that similar suggestions have been made in the past. My (admittedly, limited) understanding is that the real issue is one of time and labor intensity, as the Homecoming team is small, and so have a limited ability to implement projects. They have to carefully consider, pick and choose which projects are most needed and practical to prioritize. Understandably, things like bug squashing, AT/power balancing, and so on are typically addressed before costume customization and game aesthetics.

What's Your Opinion on Edgelords/Edgier Characters?
Triumphant replied to teamtr's topic in Roleplaying
I guess, after reading the replies in this topic, it could be said that the "Edgelord" is merely one more trope in a genre that is perhaps the tropiest of all genres. Comic books are often an inherently ridiculous medium, so perhaps it's unfair of us to view characters with melodramatic, over-the-top personalities with contempt. Hopefully, we can bring something new and interesting to these old tropes when we do use them- or at least not overrepresent one particular trope, so that it doesn't become ubiquitous to the point of blandness. Cat-girls come to mind here, more than Edgelords (for me, at least), as I see so many of them in-game and they often have a fairly generic personality and appearance that I have seen a thousand, thousand times in numerous anime. On the other hand, I have played my share of batman/superman/spiderman/captain america clones, which are perhaps as regurgitated in the American Comic scene as cat-girls are in the manga, so who am I to judge? Whatever one plays, if they play the part with dedication and skill, that is worth appreciating (and acknowledging). -
Ah, I see the advantage. If you have limited play time you can RP by doing a sort of play-by-post on your discord channel. Okay, I can grok that. 😁👍

There are three (supposed) CONS that I've gleaned from the players that object to it. There may be more and I just missed them. Do feel free to point them out to me. Anyways, the three that I noticed people commenting about... My response to this is, "Why should I care?" "What does it have to do with me?" Presumably, it's because they think unskilled players are a handicap on teams. I don't see a problem, though, because: 1) When you send your LFT message you can presage it with "ITF speed run, skilled and experienced players only." Simple. To the point. In your realm of control. 2) Even on high level, high notoriety, high number of enemy settings, team play in this game is fucking easy. If you can't compensate for a few unskilled players on your team, then you probably shouldn't be complaining about a lack of skilled players. 3) This game has a community of patient helpful players, willing to show people how to learn the game. I've noticed that most people are willing to do this for lower level noobs. Why is it suddenly a chore to do it for high lvl noobs, especially when your powerful character, and your greater level of experience, makes it actually easier to teach them the ropes and still complete the mission/taskforce. 4) There is no real penalty for death in this game. There is no real penalty for failing missions/TF's, and you can replay any mission or TF as many times as you like (and most experienced players have already completed most TF's multiple times, anyway). My thoughts on this: 1) This is a comic book roleplaying game. If playing pretend stock markets is what thrills you, there are other and better choices for this. Most of us are here to play super heroes/villains. 2) The player market is a buggy piece of shit anyway. 3) Since the only thing preventing players from accumulating vast wealth is the tedium of regularly burning 30 to 60 minutes doing something most players find boring (or relatively unimportant) anyway, why not just cut straight to the point and make everything free? 4) If you really want to, you can leave the market in place and also allow players to purchase free versions of everything at P2W. The folks that want to get stuff free can do it and everyone else can still grind/buy/sell/trade for stuff the old fashioned way, on our buggy-ass market, if they so desire (no idea why you would, but that's none of my business. You should be allowed to enjoy the game the way that you want to, just as I should be allowed to enjoy it the way that I want to). Now you may argue, that: If we make everything free, no one will want to play the market anymore, so I won't be able to player the market the way that I like anymore. Okay, I have two possible responses to this: 1) You can't be sure that this is true. 2) If your correct, and it is true, that means the great majority of players have no interest in playing the market. If this is true, why are we catering to the desires of a small minority of players, rather than the majority of players? Here are my thoughts on this: 1) This is a very old game and most of the player base are (and always will be) legacy players. It's never going to be a hugely popular MMO again. It's just not- it's too old now. If you're enjoyment of the game rests upon the hope that one day it will take off and we will have huge number of incoming players, you hope in vain. 2) As several of you pointed out, with aggressive grinding, it's not hard (although, I would argue, it IS still boring and tedious) to get characters to lvl 50 and most of the player base has one or more lvl 50 characters. If you doubt this is true, feel free to use the /search command and sort players by level, at any time of the day or night, any day of the week. You'll see that it is true. If we aren't bored of this after two years of play (I'm not- and I don't think most of us who have these lvl 50 characters are, either) there's little danger of it in the future (at least, no more danger than there is in growing bored with any 10+ year old video game). 3) The fun of this game is not grinding content. The fun is in the hugely diverse number of different kinds of characters you can make, the coolness of the player base, and the number of interesting tools available (costuming, base building, discord groups, etc.) that we can leverage to RP in an interesting environment. Anyway... that's how I see it. 🤷♂️

Concept Idea and pondering what AT to play it as...
Triumphant replied to Thrythlind's topic in General Discussion
To represent different forms, you can also make completely different costumes for each character. I had this idea for a hero that had the power to take different forms from old Hammer horror and/or B- movies: Frankenstein, wolfman, Dracula, the mummy, creature from the black lagoon, etc. Haven't made that character yet, but the concept is still floating around in the back of my brain. -
@MoonSheep I guess you can be nostalgic and masochistic in the same breath. Why not? 😛

What's Your Opinion on Edgelords/Edgier Characters?
Triumphant replied to teamtr's topic in Roleplaying
I don't really know what the definition of the phrase is. To me, it sounds like someone trying to make a character like Frank Castle/The Punisher, but they just come off sounding like an moody teenager with superpowers. 🤷♂️
