Incentive to Promote Working as a Team

Sorry, have to no vote, as it is a solution looking for a problem. -
Is there any way to make teams less boring?
SwitchFade replied to RogueWolf's topic in General Discussion
Ok so, because clickbait title.... Wait for it.... Be more fun on teams. Solv'd. <Shrug> ionno, I have plenty of fun on teams. The game can be difficult... carnies, malta, vanguard, longbow, arachnos, etc. If the team you're on doesn't style your suit, find a new tailor? 😄😋 That said, I'm all in on adding new higher difficulty. -
1. Remove jab 2. Make punch the T1 3. Put new T2 with cross punch from fighting (adjust damage up), cone power 4. Add damage to hand clap Solves 3 issues, jab is bleh, adds a cone and adds damage to na existing AoE.

Focused Feedback: Power Changes (Release Candidates)
SwitchFade replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I do understand the feeling that 60 seconds is short irrespective of recharge or uptime..... So @Captain Powerhouse and @Jimmy, here's a scenario under which I would, as a humble player, advocate for a return to 90 seconds: 1. Move the power to tier 2 of the sorcery pool 2. Set duration to 90 seconds 3. Set to ignore recharge enhancement from all sources 4. Set recharge to 220 seconds. There. We get 90 seconds up time and then it's down for 130 seconds (total of 220 from click}. 40% uptime with a longer duration. Willpower T9 ignores recharge, yes? I would yes vote a return to 90 seconds in this scenario, otherwise, 60 seconds is a good balance point, where one can reach 40% up time. Edit: oops fixed maths 😄🤯 -

So, why exactly is 60 seconds not enough? Why does it have to be 90? Why do squishies need nearly complete mez protection? What's the issue with not steamrolling? Why is the gap so bad? Why should that 1 power by so overtuned? Is it absolutely necessary to faceroll everything on a blaster with no fear of status.... And then half the community complains about how afkeasy the game is? What's the issue with changing tactics when it's down for 60 seconds? When a blaster nuke is down, should the player changes tactics? Perhaps we should reduce nuke recharge to 10 seconds so we can just spam it? RoP is part of a build, not the overriding defining facet that makes a squishy ignore mez in whole. Status effects are part of the game, squishies should be affected by it, they get many benefits that balance that fact, this is an MMo where teaming is a core concept, and not every build is supposed to be solo facetank lol no-mez blaster level damage 100% of the time. RoP at 60 seconds up is an incredible part of a build. Now, uptuned other pools to match. -

No one thinks they are an arbiter, this is a bit heavy handed, dontchathink? Difference of opinion is grand, but perhaps a bit more tact would be in order? -

So, that actually validates the reduction. It's possible on live, now, to get 90s up with only 60 down. That's way overtuned. Squishies should not be at that kind of mitigation to status, that's a core precept of the game design. If they were intended to get to 75-100% well, then damage, control and buffs would all have to be reduced. Even WITH the new 60s duration, it's still possible to hit 50% mitigation, before incarnates. For the same reason that controllers don't have their group hold on a 120 second recharge, or TW isn't absurdly overtuned, or .... If squishies keep that level of status mitigation, then, balance might thenead to: nukes go back on crash and 600s recharge, holds get cut by 20%, blaster damage is reduced by 25%, containment damage is reduced from double to 1.5...... so on. There's a whole slew of mechanics that squishies get, that non-smooshies do not. Notwithstanding that pools across the board need buffing, but that is outside of RoP being absurd at 75-100% mitigation when combined with 2 other powers. -

SwitchFade replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Understandable, I hope you see that I'm not discounting anyone's feedback or opinion. Fundamentally, the squishy AT shouldn't be negating status, that's not an opinion, it's a core balance point in the design of the game. If they can, well then.... That would necessitate a reduction in the abilities they gain in compensation. Status effects exist, if negating them completely is by design, there's no real reason to have them. Resistance offered by RoP is much less significant to the primary purpose it carries, mez protection, as +30% resistnces is not a huge effect unless one is already at 30-40%. Agreed, everyone should have a chance to give feedback. RoP was able to negate anywhere from 50-100% of status effects in sum, and that basically turns a squishy into a scrap/tank/brute in that way. With absurd damage and control. That's way too much from 1-2 powers. -

SwitchFade replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
So, really this boils down to the belief that squishies are too adversely effected by status. If we remove all the peripherial noise... What does RoP do, in the majority? Status protection. That's mainly it. While the arguments against the change are presented in many ways that discuss the how's and why's it shouldn't be changed, it boils down to status protection. Squishies, and I use this term liberally, were not intended to be able to wholly negate status effects, as part of the core game design. RoP went too far in how much status effect it could negate all on its own. Stacked with incarnates? Even further. It was far too simple and cheap to do. The fact that other power pools are undesirable is relatively immaterial to the core issue, squishies should not be able to negate 75-100% of status with one to two powers. Yes, other pool sets should be buffed. Make no mistake though, RoP should not have ever had such a massive uptime on nearly complete avoidance of status. We're dancing around the fact that the real point of not wanting the change is "I don't like mez," which is fine and I get that, but it's part of the game. Squishies should never have been omgfacerolly mez avoidance roflecopters 😄😋 and really, blasters, controllers, and so forth we're always designed to be most powerful on teams. While they absolutely can solo, should they be able to avoid mez like a tank, scrap, brute? That's the crux, RoP was overmuch. -
Apologies, you're mistaken. At no time did anyone state this. It's been explained numerous times how it works and, in fact, the description is very straightforward. I understand you may be having trouble with the change; however, this does not mean it's complicated or was not explained thoroughly. It was. To be very.... Very.... VERY clear, Old fly = x Old AB = y New fly = a New EM = b New AB = c X+y = a+b A+b+c > x+y The names don't matter, because if you use EM just like you used old AB the result is..... NO CHANGE. At this point, I won't explain this gain, I'm sorry, but I do hope you stop confusing people and accusing people of things they haven't done.

You're obviously not seeing the point when you are misstatting what I say. I never said RoP is not a good power, not did I say RoP is a horse drawn carriage. I did say there are much better ways to deal with the threat of status effects and offered to demonstrate. I explained the change by way of an analogy that used a carriage as part of a fictitious example and I think you know that, warping what I said is a bit of a stretch 😉 RoP is a fine power, just like brawl, jump kick, aid self, aid other, flurry, provoke, intimidate, etc... it was overtuned, and now is well balanced. It's just not nearly the best way to deal with status effects. Which is ok. -
Focused Feedback: Power Changes (Build 1)
SwitchFade replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Understandable, but you're missing the point that pool powers exist in a certain spectrum, for which they can be over or under tuned. You're making an assumption of range of performance when stratifying. A Porsche can be undertuned for it's class, but still outperform a civic. A civic can be overturned for it's class, but still underperform vs a Porsche. So, relative performance is exactly that, and as a pool power it was overturned. -
Focused Feedback: Power Changes (Build 1)
SwitchFade replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
That would be not at all what I said. Basically, complaining that it should not be changed based on how essential it is, and changing it breaks things, is a fallacy, as it's completely unnecessary. In actuality, it's usefulness to survivability is an option, but an inferior one at that. In essence, the change is good because it was out of alignment for it's purpose. In either incarnation, it is akin to using brawl as a means of dealing damage: certainly ok to do, but by no means necessary or even the most efficient Look at it this way, if I said horse drawn carriages were being limited to 1 person occupancy when being used during rush hour in down town New York, it might be a slight change, but a shrug worthy one at that. RoP was a nice build diversity option that was overturned and is now in line... But anyone using it as a primary means of status mitigation, while perfectly ok, is absolutely using one of the lesser effective means of mitigation, just like brawl is a-ok, but a lesser means of delaying damage. So any argument that broken-build results, is a stretch. Edit: removed a silly typo -

SwitchFade replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Hmm, I have to disagree. I have plenty of squishies, have never taken RoP and have never needed it. My blasters alpha, my controllers alpha, my defenders alpha... And none worry about mez. I'm always the first one in before the tank, scrap, or anyone else on every toon against every faction. I build tactically to overcome mez without insps, without RoP. Oh, I also don't use any temp or rely on incarnates. I've played the game since issue 2, and learned long ago how to overcome it through all the revamps and permutations. For example, my blasters are built for defense and are tough enough to stumble around if they ever are meZed, and usually wipe spawns with their alpha, so mez is a non issue. My controllers are built for defense and alpha stun the spawn, return mez negated. If they ever rarely do get meZed, not an issue. Honestly, if a player is relying on RoP on a squishie, there is a far, FAR more effective way to play, because RoP is not the most effective way to overcome mez. I'm happy to demonstrate in game. -

Arthur, I'll try this once, I hope you're reading... I think you're mistaken, if you don't focus on the names of the powers... Old fly+old AB=New fly+EM There will essentially be no change for you, because EM does what old AB does. If you change nothing, the net change is zero. On top of this you get a temp boost that puts you faster than live for short bursts. Let me be clear, if this goes live, you will go just as fast as now, as EM is TECHNICALLY the old AB for speed boosting. You will ALSO get the option of going EVEN FASTER. On the seriouslies. Try it. -
