And by "completely", I mean "I don't want to download another 10 gigs of voiced lines from people who think they're talented voice actors."

Per above, I've played tanks. I know it can be fun to just stand there at the center and get beat on. But there have been times - when I've tried to solo, or when the rest of my team isn't up to snuff - that it gets frustrating, because it seems that all I can do is stand there and get beat on. I can't make a dent in that giant mass in any reasonable amount of time. It feels like trying to weed a flowerbed with tweezers; you can do it, but it's going to take all day and it's very easy to get discouraged. (See also, trying to solo a defender, which is something else I've done, more than once even. 😞 )

The issue is that some people, if you even slightly interfere with their ability to smack around or efficiently burn down groups with AoEs, get pissy about it. I've been playing some meleers lately, and sometimes my target gets knocked out of my reach. I roll my eyes, yes, but then I suck it up and run after them. I think a lot of players are spoiled by fire farms et al, or don't want "active" combat; they'd prefer target dummies that just stand there and take it. (Disclaimer: I'm in a slightly cranky mood this morning.)

IMO: No to voiced lines in this game, ever. Double no to amateur voice acting. Even professional voice acting can be wildly uneven in quality, and that's with a consistent recording setup, etc etc.

Oh, and whoever it was who was bleating "but the TRINITY!" and "how dare Tankers actually be able to do damage" (and thus be viable outside of a team/soloing) earlier, here are my thoughts on that, from the previous thread: tl;dr: %^#@ the Trinity. Another poster pointed out that in this game, a full team of any given AT is perfectly viable. We don't have designated taunt-bots or heal-bots in this game, we have heroes (and villains), and the game is better for it. Dispensing (mostly) with the Trinity is one of the best things the original Devs, in their earnest ignorance of how to make a "proper" MMO like all the others of the time, ever did.

Unfortunately, there's (currently) no way of making it immediately obvious to a standard player, in the game, that "you don't ever want to actually slot this for what it claims to be; just use it for a slotmule."- 55 replies

I have never liked Rage, never thought it "essential" to Super Strength (in a flavor sense) - more something I had to grit my teeth and endure, or work around as much as possible - and would miss it not at all if it went away. Just because it's been around since the beginning doesn't mean it was good, or the I0 devs knew what they were doing. Remember Unyielding Stance? Non-stacking armors? I can go on.

Then IMO, as I've said from the start, we should take the damn power/mechanic out entirely and rebalance the set so that it's not utterly dependent on one power. (Ditto Granite, which renders the previous 8 powers moot and replaces your character with a generic DE, but that's a different powerset.) Unfortunately, that is not the approach the devs here have chosen to take, and I suspect many of you are attached to the dumb mechanic; you just want it to have no drawbacks you can't mitigate. 😛 Anyway, that's my focused feedback on Rage: get rid of it, it's keeping you from fixing this set to function properly without it.

Considering that (per above) they can't increase the aggro cap (for Tankers alone), what would you prefer?

Something can be out of balance, and need adjustment, without "breaking the game". I mean, if that's your test, your standard, then anything short of I0 Smoke Grenade, or ... "push this button to crash the server" will fail it. It's not a reasonable bar. -

See what Vanden said, quoting Steampunkette - you can't slot Wet Ice for Def because, in its current state, it might as well not grant any. It's a rounding error. Before making it slottable, you'd first have to restore it to actually providing some.- 55 replies

I'd love to have [server] back - for me, it would be Virtue. But let's be honest, folks; it wouldn't be _________. The people wouldn't be the same. We aren't the same people we were, 7/10/15 years ago. And the game itself has changed. Trying to recreate what we had, exactly as it was, is impossible and will only lead to disappointment.

Because EM got over-nerfed, no power may ever be nerfed again for any reason. No, that's an argument to (1) fix EM and (2) be more careful with nerfs in the future, when they are needed. And it sure looks like TW needs... let's say adjusting. -
Since this keeps coming up as a suggestion, I thought I'd address it: Based on what I saw in the "Conundrum" thread, the aggro cap is a global setting. IT CANNOT BE INCREASED FOR TANKERS ONLY. If I'm wrong, please correct me. But my understanding is: this is a universal number, and can't be changed for just one AT. It'd probably be really nice for Tankers, as some (most?) want to play them, if we could. But we can't.

I think it was a fantastic idea for empowering those people who were content creators (Sturgeon's Law applies to the quality of that content, of course) which completely failed to take into account what most people are actually like and play(ed) this game for. 😛

Way back on live, I hated what AE turned into / was actually used for, compared to its potential. By now, I've just given up accepted it. People who want to PL will find a way, whether it's AE farms or something else. You can't stop them. Close or nerf one path, they'll just move to the next.

On top of everything else, if you DID nerf AE, they'd most likely IMO either (1) shift to the next-most-efficient form of farming, whatever that is; or (2) leave. People are going to play this game the way they want to, and there's no way you can force them to do otherwise. Case in point: I think this game (a KBAM MMO from the golden age of same) shouldn't be played with a controller; that it's foolish to try, and dev resources shouldn't be expended in that direction. But hey, you do you. I can't stop you. -

One other factor that may or may not be at all significant in a data set this size: I have actually not remade many (most) of my old characters from live, despite more than adequate room to do so, and even though I enjoyed playing those powers and probably would again. The main reason, for me, is that those characters are done. This new server, this second chance, is for trying new things and seeing if I like them or not.
