  1. At default, it is loud, but not damage speakers loud. Have always adjusted down the volume on the game. Never thought anything of it. Not a biggie using the sliders one time per install. I can say I never noticed any sounds that remained at an undesirable volume. I may test the level up scenario.
  2. Any users having issues should let the team know. If someone was using safe mode because it worked where the others wouldn't, or even if safe mode just worked better that is good information to share. I am 100% onboard with the goal. As GM_Korvin said " we want everybody to be able to play the game. "
  3. (off-topic) thats a nice computer in your signature.
  4. While some of that maybe true for you. That is not everyone's experience. My launcher was completely wiped including the taskbar icon that came with it. ( If anyone has the icon it would be great to get back. I think it may have had Statesman on it ) I could likely grab the mac with the non-functional version on it and take some additional pictures for you to argue with. I used the test server I believe just in early December. Test servers come an go so it's removal was not novel.
  5. I think in this current version many people skip a lot of the content. Someone can have dozens of 50s (not really a new player) and have never run many of the arcs, nor visited various neighborhoods in different zones, or out leveled contacts. The game has always seemed to me incredibly creative and immersive with a vast variety of diverse content.
  6. All you had to do was reply in some form of agreement or disagree. Example: "Yes, there are ethnically diverse costume pieces, weapons, NPCs, etc. An even more immersive experience would be great." Instead you've chosen to belittle my question and the comments of others. You've also assumed positions on new content. Someone who wanted to argue could go through the game and point to all the examples where korean, chinese, japanese, italian, french, european, middle eastern ascetics are included. I wasn't interested in arguing. I merely wanted to establish if you were aware of what was present or not.
  7. I wonder if in the say the next 3 months this course of action doesn't consume more time than what they were trying to avoid in the first place. Without more information I can't say for sure if it's a wash or worse. I haven't seen the actual reason, tool or feature that is pushing this. If I had to make an educated guess - folks have been using safe mode because there are more than a couple nasty tasks that now have to be tackled by volunteers. The punch list of bugs and compatibility issues could run on and on. Could be 200-300 hours of work chasing loose ends. I hope there is something awesome at the end of that joy ride.
  8. I know you are attempting to be helpful so I'll be gentle. A link to the instructions on how to use the manifest would be more helpful than a link to the safemode.xml which looks like code gobbledygook unless a person is familiar with xml. Safe Mode is not accessible (fact) without following the instructions mentioned in the bullet point above and, again, missing from your response. The instructions linked in the first post of this thread are for connecting to HC Beta (64-Bit) and HC-Beta (32-Bit). The first post of this thread indicated " When will Safe Mode disappear entirely? It’ll likely be early this year ". I guess that's the same as today. This implementation could have been handled much better. I find your quote/response condescending, inaccurate, and woefully out of touch with the average player. I'll see if I can figure it out. I think it might also be prudent to double check that my private version of the code is functioning. -cheers
  9. um.. it's been removed as well as the test server link (see screen shot below). The task bar icon was also changed and now resembles a trash can. 7 weeks could be generous, 3 months... maybe it's been discussed in circles, though I didn't see this thread until today. I'll stick with the announcement Friday evening as the only pinned announcement with Safe Mode in the topic.
  10. oh too late.. I guess this was really well communicated. (or the opposite)
  11. Sure thing! .. oh wait. we lost access.
  12. oh boy.. you totally turned off the working version of the game for some folks. reason " time consuming ". -weaksauce
  13. Oh good this is already started. NCsoft follows up City of Heroes code copyright filing with fresh trademark application, January 2, 2020 https://massivelyop.com/2020/01/02/ncsoft-follows-up-city-of-heroes-code-copyright-filing-with-fresh-trademark-application/ "Today, we can add some more kindling to the speculation fire, as MMO Culture noticed that NCsoft filed a new trademark application for the long-sunsetted game just a few weeks ago. That website points out that players have tried and failed to legally acquire the game from the Korean megacorp for many years, but as we’ve been covering for the last nine (!) months, there’s quite a bit more to it than that."
  14. also: Massively OP’s 2019 Awards: Best MMO Trend https://massivelyop.com/2019/12/18/massively-ops-2019-awards-best-trend/ and https://www.mmogames.com/gamearticles/top-mmo-news-stories-2019/ City of Heroes Revival The honor of the top MMO news story of 2019 goes to the revival of beloved superhero MMORPG City of Heroes. It was a crazy year but no story lifted more hearts in the MMO world than the return of City of Heroes. Earlier this year it was revealed that there had been a secret server of City of Heroes and shortly after that the first new City of Heroes server open to the public opened up. Since then thousands of accounts have been made across a number of different servers. These servers have small groups of volunteer developers working on making improvements to the 15-year-old game and there are quite a few to pick from, though the most populated are part of the Homecoming group. City of Heroes makes the top of our list for being the story that has had the widest and most long-lasting impact. We can’t wait to see what the new year holds for the revival of City of Heroes.
  15. Confirmed still open and voted. Reader poll: What was the biggest surprise in the MMO world in 2019? The revival of City of Heroes (42%, 315 Votes) People actually boycotted Blizzard in support of human rights (10%, 75 Votes) FFXIV Shadowbringers makes mainstream gamers swoon (7%, 50 Votes) Funcom landed the DUNE IP for a new MMO (6%, 47 Votes) Reader poll: What was the MMO story of 2019? Blizzard boycotts and Hong Kong mess (40%, 321 Votes) Resurrection of City of Heroes (18%, 147 Votes) Launch of WoW Classic (13%, 103 Votes)
  16. Surely 'the change' is just referring to the in game 'notification of the safe mode retirement' not the actual safe mode removal. You wouldn't purposely turn off the working version of the game for some folks just to get them to report why they are not using the non-working versions? fyi - Folks with new computers have had issues as well.
  17. Surely there are some numbers on how many folks use safe mode and how many issues are experienced with the other clients. To be transparent, features being implemented that would 'break' the game for some (many?) should be considered carefully and possibly disclosed. I've seen some folks post about inevitability of change, leaving some behind, or breaking some eggs. While decent points, my experience is that those steps are often rushed and potentially unnecessary. I would suggest: If truly critical, a transition period and making the time frame very clear when selecting between clients. If less than 30 days or immediately need, a really good explanation / justification.
  18. Alright, started a poll so folks can vote without having to explain. Knockback Love/Hate Poll
  19. I do love knockback. It's pretty fun and has an element of control in it that is different. With proper application it can dominate an encounter or even a conversation. I am okay with knockdown but to be honest I prefer stun to knockdown. There's a learning curve with knockback just as other powers. It's just not subtle. Few really see Enflame being applied and it being the cause of a target start running around, There are tips and tricks available. There are also plenty of threads on the topic like:
  20. Aren't these already present?
  21. Some of this is already in game.
  22. well this thread has taken a turn...
  23. maybe it would be easier to keep critters from going through walls... maybe not.
  24. I do like this. Knockback is present in many ATs and power sets. Giving 'Repulsion Field' and 'Sonic Repulsion' some options might help them be more team friendly. Similarly for 'Gail', 'Hurricane', 'Tornado', 'Explosive Arrow', etc. The powers could still knock the crap out of them in some fashion.
