Are alternate powers within powersets possible?
gamingglen replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
I don't get this. You can blast them in the face when they are next to you. I play blasters a lot. Rarely do I use a melee power, unless I take the Martial Combat secondary set. I have used melee powers from other secondary sets once in awhile, but it's even rarer I add a second slot to any of them. -
I like. This might be doable with IOs, either a new set or add an IO to existing sets*. When IOs were first announced I thought they would be a lot more encompassing of abilities then they ended up to be. * Why limit sets to 6? Why not 7 and you have to decide which 6 out of 7 you want? Yeah, I can hear the whining already: "but I want them ALL!!1!!!1!!!". 😉

I no longer wear green on St. Patrick's Day in the hope that some cute girl pinches me. Unfortunately the whole "personal space" thing has ruined this aspect of the holiday. 😞

The best part of playing an old game is the old players
gamingglen replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
The same applies to RPG (D&D and the like) sessions. References to Monty Python movies and skits, the afore mentioned movies, Star Trek original series, The Princess Bride, etc., are lost on the youth of today. Although not all, some have been "enlightened". 😄 Here's a test, guess where this comes from: "Well, he's... he's, ah... probably pining for the fjords." (IMO, from one of the best skits ever) -
Wishing for more wishes is against the rules of the Genie Convention.

That's you. Less than 5% of my characters take any fighting pool powers. But it is your wish. Same goes for another's post about "soft cap defense" that "everyone" goes for. No, not everyone. I have no characters at soft cap defense. Next thing someone will wish for is auto Hasten. Only about 1/3 of my characters have Hasten. In short, not everyone plays the min/max game. I would hazard a guess that most people don't play that way, but I have no numbers to back that up. My wish: devs ignore the power creep wishes. A second one: stop with the wish threads. There's a suggestion section for that. Actual game wish: (oh so many).. another area for my 50s to street sweep saving the day of regular citizens (ala north end of Peregrine Island; that's such a small area). I detest the all-dark DA, there's also no citizens to save. I like sunshine. Yeah, I know I'm in the minority as one that likes to street sweep (there's no tunnels, caves, or Escher-style office layouts to deal with). Add "Round up the usual suspects" repeatable mission type to the police officer standing outside ("arrest" x number of an enemy faction, a different one each time, keeping x somewhere from 10 to 20). (I guess that's a 2nd wish). That provides a street sweeping mission. Usually I hunt the badge-worthy bad guys, but once I have the badge then it feels less satisfying afterwards to hunt for Fake Nemesis for example. Making Warhulks explode never gets old, though.

I still would not have liked that electro-bubblegum crap.

I know blapping existed in the beginning, but "in mind" is different than "They are built from the ground up as blappers". If blapping was designed as the primary damage attack of blasters, then melee attacks would have been in the primary sets instead of the secondary sets. I never cared for blapping, there's other ATs that melee much better. But I do like Martial Combat as a secondary for WHEN the mobs get close. And there's other powers in that set that are useful.

Powers with "Crunch"... and those without
gamingglen replied to oedipus_tex's topic in General Discussion
Without: Sentinels, anything. Without: Dual pistols because of stupid showy animations. Shoot that damn guns already. we've already seen the gun show a dozen times. (it's only 2 or 3 of them, though; love Executioner's Shot animation). Same goes for Staff, as someone already pointed out, too much air swooshing and not enough head smacking. Favorite crunch: Energy Blast's sniper attack, love when the enemy goes flopping backwards. -

Because it takes so long to wind up it'll end up in 4th place. 😉 -
NPCs can be murder-hobos, too. They want to beat you down and take your stuff.

"The Game is not Balanced around IO's"..... should it be?
gamingglen replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in General Discussion
Except people hate those missions because they are not "broot smash!". I know of two, both in the Croatoa arcs: "stop 30 Fir Bolg from entering door" and "stop takeover of Salamanca" (save 3 mystics and protect from incoming Red Caps that try to interrupt the mystics' ritual). I like those missions because they are different, though they do seem to be a tad long. -
Auction House fees: is there any point?

"The Game is not Balanced around IO's"..... should it be?
gamingglen replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in General Discussion
I'm content with playing at +0 or +1. If I'm running through the tip missions as fast as possible for reward merits I'll set it to -1 and stealth where I can. When I mentioned the former (0 or +1) in a chat someone thought I couldn't handle higher difficulty and my build was bad. He was wrong; I guess he couldn't fathom not playing at the highest difficulty. I use IOs and IO sets, I just play to bash heads. It's not like the AI gets smarter at higher difficulties, the mobs just have higher numbers. How droll. 😉 How about this, since we the players get to cheat with inspirations, let's let the mobs have some, too (one time only). We already have the Freaks effectively use a green one. At +1 some use one small inspiration (more likely yellow.. let's offset that defense cap goofiness 😛). At +2 some use a medium inspiration. At +3 some use a large inspiration. At +4 all use a large. Isn't there something even bigger? Vary the inspiration based on the mob type, or let them eat a dual (yellow/red? random between offense and defense?), Another option is to let LTs use a team oriented dual. Bosses use two. With an AV, color party for everyone! 😄 I would also have the mobs set up traps at certain points. Sky Raider engineers already have their generator out as the warning has been sounded (random chance based on difficulty). Some have set land mines not visible to the PCs. If it's their base why aren't there more automated defenses (i.e., pop-up turrets; trap doors that drop you to another level, or into a tank with laser-equipped sea bass)? -
What's the issue? I solo 99% of the time, with blasters, scrappers, stalkers, MMs, sentinels at those specifications. I don't do that many contacts because I've done them to death, just lots of street sweeping (mostly for defeat badges), tip missions, and occasional radio missions. I've gotten to the mid-20s with the only active contact being the radio, and then do several of those plus the safeguard to finally get a contact when I'm in the mood for one of those arcs. The only thing I join a team for are TFs (not Posi 1, can do that solo) and fighting giant monsters, and sometimes not even that, just get to an existing GM fight and blast away.

People who spell "picinic" wrong. 😉

Sentinel + Mastermind, with less pets to make up for stronger attacks; option to either have the two tier-2s or the one tier-3. I don't like most of the secondaries for MMs; too much controller-ish and I don't like that AT. Give me defenses, perhaps a minor heal, so I can lead my controllable followers into the fray.

These boots are made for walkin' : Walk, as in the power, for 2.8 miles (that's about the length of IP). Two steps forward, one step backward : Walk backwards for 1.4 miles, but you only get it after getting the other one first. You didn't see that : be defeated as a Rikti monkey. Another possible name for this badge could be Potential Cage Fighter.
