If you rolled a Sav Melee and felt Doog the Doomguy would rather use weapons than break a nail, then drop him and roll a claws toon. While you're at it, roll a kin and energy melee, fire blast AND pistols. Roll any AT and Power you want. you're not walking uphill in the snow. You're not walking at all. you're sitting by the door while the other guy pounds through mobs so you can get free XP. And in a few hours of not walking uphill in the snow, you have your spanking new 50 toon ready to open all makes of feeding containers. It only takes a few hours of sitting by the door coughing up (optional) senseless banter... But this isn't about power-leveller vs grinder ideology. I accept and respect that some people like what they like and not like what I like. This isn't about that. I used to work in advertising. We were the people who try to convince you to pick Brand X over (the leading) Brand Y. One way to do that is to have you try Brand X. Getting you to try Brand X is easy. We can use any gimmick (lie, cheat, and steal are givens), even give away stuff at a net loss just to get you to try Brand X. But out of 1000 trials, only about 10 will switch. There's a market term for it, but it's irrelevant and simply jargon-dropping. Notwithstanding, the trick to getting more than three quarters of the trials to switch to Brand X is to have them use Brand X for two weeks. Again, there is a scientific term for it about pathology, psychology, and physiology, but not important rn. If you use a product for 2 weeks straight, you will switch 98% of the time. Otherwise, you'll just be trying Brand X and then wham bam thank you ma'am and see ya. TL;DR It takes time for your brain and body to build affinity for something. Without that affinity, that something will just as easily be discarded as it was procured. That's why I fail to see the long term benefit of this. What may seem attractive NOW for 50, 500, 5,000 players MAY (yes, I could also be wrong) not be in the best interest of the game in the years to come.

I fail to see the long term benefit of this. I agree that there are people who (unlike me) skip through the grind and power level a spanking new toon to 50, kit it out, and take it for a run. According to you, you yourself do this on a regular basis. Power levelling takes a few hours at the most, and compared to an actual grind that sometimes takes me weeks or even months to get a toon to 50, that is a considerable speed. So if you rolled a toon with X AT and Y+Z primary and secondary, pl-ed it to 50, slapped on all the bells and whistles, took it out for a spin, and then decided that Q AT might work better for Y+Z primary, or a different power set combination, or a totally new configuration of AT + power combos might be in order... then what's stopping you from doing it your tried and tested way? It will only take you a few hours. You can strip your "old" toon of the IOs to be recycled on the new(er) ones. And life goes on. But that eats a FEW hours that you don't have. Again, the few hours represent an enormous leap compared to the regular grind. And if you don't like the grind, then I'm sorry to say that this kind of game is not for you. This is after all a hack-n-slash dungeon crawler at heart. Yes, there is instant gratification that that toon you wanted, you get it now will prove more harmful in the long run. Insta-toons become something you pick off a shelf rather than earn. the time you don't spend with a toon is a bond you fail to create with your creation. The insta-toons mean less to you, and as such can and will be easily discarded for the next yearning.

I still haven't finished my rounds from the latest page 4 patch, free respecs, and tailor tokens. A lot of my 50 toons have been getting a mostly successful and much needed respec. These are to update them with what I've learned since they were last played and to try new builds that I wasn't prepared to spring inf for a respec purchase. What started it all was the name retrieval system slowly being put into place. I had to cull my lowbies and just keep the concepts, costumes and names I was really interested in. I think I may have released 50 of them back into the wild (which brought me down to 120 or so). So a few name switching amongst my alts to those that better fit their power sets. Then came a few costume changes and updates to fit the name; and an occasional build overhaul based on the new name, concept, and costume. Once page 5 drops, I will have to do another round of these for my Sentinels (I've got 10 at 50 plus 2 mid-level ones) which are getting quite an update. Having recently revisited them, I've been reminded how much I enjoyed them. Along with that will be to try some of the new Sentinel powers that are coming. Same goes for my MMs; IIRC I have 2 50s, 4 mid level ones, and 4 project toons--one of which is a petless =).

Arachnos Agent displays the text for Cannon Fodder instead

It's the same badge, just different alignment. -
I doubt it's a bug. There are a number of powers that are Auto or have no endurance cost that will allow you to put end redux enhancements. In terms of TOs, DOs, SOs or singular attribute IOs, a normal person wouldn't even consider slotting an enhancement that would add no benefit to a power. I think it's there just to prevent some catastrophic failure when you do slot IO sets == which most have a /end component to them.

could I also slip in the request to add a knife blade down holding option?

If you're referring to the shorter range Sentinels have, I think it makes sense. Sents were designed to be ranged tanks. So if you're a squad using ranged weapons and powers attacking a foe, the enemy (from my limited experience) will usually focus on the bigger threat or the first to get its attention. Hence, the Sentinel is forcibly put closer to the enemy with their shorter range to take the alpha and aggro while the rest of the squad does THEIR thing.

Wait, I clicked on this thread thinking it was going to be about pronouns and gender bias. Ah, screw it... all of yous.

I have a couple of these shapeshifters. After playing PBs, I stumbled upon this harebrained idea of mine:

Not at the moment. She's in Indom with my other DC knock offs inspired toons. Wasn't too happy with the power combos as well. I might roll a new one for the SG when I'm done with all the re-costume and respecs (thanks to page 4)... so that might take a while. I might as well wait for page 5 when they revamp some powers and introduce new ones. 😃 Also, the wifi-gods won't let me near Torch for some reason. I've been swinging between (extremely low population) Indom and Reunion. Just keep my pony warm for me for the time being. 😃

I've got this Sonic/Sonic Blaster bloke who might fit the bill. I've been into Sonic lately as it remains one of the few powers I haven't really played -- been trying it in different ATs. Numbskull Bonehead... the name will likely change once I cough up a better one. But as the name suggests, he's not the brightest bulb on the tanning bed. He desperately tries to roll with the big boys, but deep inside he knows he's not cut out for it. He was going for the timeless timeless skull and bones terror invoked by the Grim Reaper, but costume design is not his stronger skill set... that and the really good villain tailors charge and arm and a leg (literally). So, without much money and smarts to go around, he's decided on the seemingly lucrative business of crime. How hard could it be? P.S. The skull was really hard to pull off. So he just got an old bike helmet and some spray paint. He'll get a better one after the next job. He also started with a cape, which he thought looked classically villainous, but it kept getting caught in doorways and other furniture. And why the purple suit? Skeletor, you might assume. But you'd assume wrong. It was the last item of its kind in the store, so it was at half price. He'll get a better one after he gets a new skull thing... hopefully. His role model or as he sees it in his screw-loose head, mentor, the-person-he-wants-to-be-when he-grows-up is Bad Vibes (such a cool name). Sonic/Elec Corruptor. Who do voodoo? He do. For the record, Bad Vibes vehemently denies any knowledge or association with the gentleman above.

My trollers and doms seem to be doing fine, and I play them like blappers right in the thick of things.
-
Welp, misunderstandings happen. I feel you with the urge to organise, I'm the same way with my personal bases. OCD is not a laughing matter. 😃 Offer stands on the rare albeit dusty salvage. I'll chat with BT if I bump into him in Torch, though I've been on Indom of late (wifi-gods have steered me to them outlands for now)
-
If you're looking for something different, why not try Cognitive for a small chance to confuse + big chance for DoT (Psi). I tried this + Control Hybrid and it's funly funny 😃 You could also go for Reactive for Fire DoT which goes well with the Rad thematic (radiation burns) or Spectral for a Nega-nergy DoT.

I inadvertently kicked myself out. I was organising my toons and had the bright idea of categorising them by AT and Shard, and by moving, severed the connections. I didn't mean to move her... my mouse to eye coordination and reflexes were just off (although I will always put the blame on lag, or batteries, or dogs). The Page 4 patch (and the coming Page 5) have kept be busy respec-ing and re-costuming old toons so much that I haven't really had time to play and focus on a single toon. I'll definitely cough up a new one for the SG. Don't know when that will be, but will holler when it happens. 😃 [Edit] I just read the most recent ones... about BT's salvage. My post of leaving the SG seems suspect and convenient in that context, doesn't it. (slowly backs steps back away to his horse while shifting gaze to everyone in the saloon... but his horse throws him under the bus and skedaddles outta there). Momentarily RP and kidding aside... could it be that someone tried to edit the room and deleted or misplaced an entire salvage rack. I've done this before with another SG (they weren't too happy either). In any case, I've got a rack full of orange salvage just gathering dust in another shard. Let me know if y'all would like me to haul it in.

Change name of Beta: Focused Feedback
Six-Six replied to Troo's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
Also, feedback is a lot like advice: just because it was given doesn't necessarily mean it will be followed. -
Or enter an apartment building and wind up in a sprawling Longbow/Crey base... with 4 elevators. Haha, yeah. I wish I could do that to my house IRL.

One would think Cap au Diable Bank would be in Cap, huh. I suppose it's a branch? XD Have you guys got anything that made you do a double take?
-
Yes... along with Plane and Automobile Ninjas. For those of you who got that reference, you're old as dirt. 😃

With new power sets come new Patron/Ancillary sets?
Six-Six replied to Fusaokek's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think it's more possible and probable for new Ancillary Powers, or at least a proliferation of existing Epic pools to other ATs. But Patron Power pools have the nitty gritty of being thematically tied to a Patron. To come up with a new Patron pool, they'd have to introduce a new Patron. -
If you could customize your Mastermind minions, what would you make?
Six-Six replied to Magi 1's topic in Mastermind
Those might be too OP haha. I'd be happy with any female body version of pets... again, those already in the game should be the low lying fruits like Victoria/cleaners, Seers, Carnies (they have to do that awesome scream when they die too), Talons, Artimisessess, Succubus and Hellion GFs from hell, Coralax. -
Sorry, can someone kindly explain the Cottage Rule? I googled it and all I got was the allowance of selling non-pasteurised home-made foodstuffs.

A video that represents well the pitfalls of feature creep.
Six-Six replied to Sanguinesun's topic in General Discussion
As someone who used to work in the advertising industry, this sure brings back some horrible memories. Make no mistake, though. The video is not a parody or satire, nor is it an exaggeration. That stuff really happens. You'd be surprised (yes, from the know-it-all attitude of the clients to the creepy smiles). Past mental trauma aside, I don't think it's a fair representation of what is going on in HC. Yes the devs have been busy with changes, some minor and some major. The thing with change however, is most humans are not so good at dealing with it. There will always be controversy whenever something disrupts the "way things are." The bottom line, however is technically, they're (running copy of an otherwise dead) game and we're just lucky to be allowed to play with them. We all have wants and wish lists that we often convince others that they're needs; or we may feel entitled to go so far as to demand certain things, but it all boils down to the small group of volunteers and what they choose to do with it. Now, they have been so gracious as to ask for feedback from the community. But in the end, they can do whatever floats their goat. And if we don't like it, we don't have to play it. Are all the changes good? There is no way to quantify it nor predict each success or failure. But the specific changes can later be amended, rolled back, improved, whatever. The good in all of this is not the specific change itself, but the fact that the game is still changing after being dead for so many years. Change, believe or not, is a good thing. Back to the video... just a bit of unsolicited professional advice: If it's an ad, it's lying to you in one way or another. [Edit] This serendipitously popped in my youtube suggestions. An over simplification of things, but I feel that it helps shed light (albeit little) on some aspects:- 27 replies

Focused Feedback: Sentinel Archetype Revamp
Six-Six replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Awesome sauce all around. Thank you for taking a good look at Sentinels. You guys surely have been busy. I in turn will have to take a good look at all of my sents and will inevitably do another round of respecs when the patch rolls out.
