Richness, sense, Mistborn, Marvel Comics, the MCU, and CoH
Techwright replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
We already have it all tied together, do we not? And the tie isn't Nemesis or Circle of Thorns. It's POWER. They're just prominent because they have so much of it. The real source is, well, the Well. The Well has power and the Well enjoys displays of power. Anything not already known to be pointing to the Well is likely a thread we've just not discovered yet. And if I understand correctly, the Well is beyond the limitation of the universe as well, meaning it intersects all parallel universes. From my limited perspective (I've not played every mission) the Well is this game's version of Infinity Stones. -
Thanks for the comments about MWB. First I've heard of it, though I've had no need to go reading for several years now. Looks like it is time to correct that. I've lost computers to McAfee before. Stripped them when trying to clean malware. And, though it has been a few years, we've had problems before with it refusing to uninstall, necessitating a re-image (rebuild). Not fun. John McAfee: is he still in Belize?

Never much cared for McAfee myself. It's been a bane in the IT Desktop Support departments I've worked at, and false positives were one of the problems. If you're still concerned, consider downloading a free copy of Malwarebytes and having it scan the file separately. I've known many techs who use it as a backup malware scan, though I won't recommend having two malware scanners on the pc permanently. It should do for an occasional check, though.

Welcome (back) to the (concrete) jungle! Because it is new, at first chance, grab all the exploration badges in Atlas Park and unlock your new green travel menu button. Then be sure to tag at least one exploration badge in each zone you visit. You'll appreciate it later when you need to reach a previous zone quickly. Also watch for exploration badge tours. Some kind souls have taken to guiding and guarding teams of new characters, helping them unlock all the travel power zones in short order. It helps when it comes time to do the Numina Task Force. -
Is there any way to make teams less boring?

Keep using Secondary Mutation enough, and you'll get your chance. -

That's not entirely unlike some experiences having Fusionette follow my teams around back on live. "Wha...come on, girl! Why'd you have to go and aggro another bunc...wait, wait! Three mobs? Arrgh! Can I please shoot her already?" I notice she's tamer nowadays. (Still having something of that problem with Lady Jane in the Lost cure arc, though) -
I don't own an Xbox, (I only play the occasional Halo game on friends' consoles when we're all in the room) so please pardon my naivety, but you're saying MS never integrated something like this into their Xbox service already? How do Xbox players communicate on cooperative games?

Clean look. Very nice! Kinda jealous I didn't think of it for my Patriot characters. Well done.

What are the petty but real annoyances in CoH?
Techwright replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
Trying to recall, but back on live, didn't we used to have a dev-designated area around trainers where powers were dampened, due to the load they placed on old computers or something? -
Great look! The only thing I hate is beyond your control, and that's the (not visible here) handles that jut from the shoulders. If the devs could provide an option that removes them, outfits like this would really benefit. But as I said, beyond your control, and your design is great!

Aaaannd...then this actually happened to me. I'll not name the TF, but deep in the first mission, the lead state they'd prefer the XP to speed and cranked up the difficulty. Halfway through, we ended up losing people who quietly turned a corner and quit, and the TF ended up taking 1 hour more time than usual. I had the time to keep going and hung in there, not for the lead, and not for the XP, but for the other teammates who got suckered as well and were just hoping to finish with a badge.

I'm here after yet another few rescue missions where the rescuee confuses the fire out of the team by not moving in a pattern that suggests to whom they are connected. Then 6 of the team end up doing this weaving dance trying to figure out who has the hot potato. We've also had cases where the rescuee repeatedly drops connection with a guide, and no one knows it, despite the NPC's comment, usually because a big fight is underway, and messages flit across the dialog box quickly. There's also those cases where someone forgets to turn off a cloaking ability and confuses the NPC, and the team is unaware of it immediately. So suggestion: tag the designated guide for the rescuee. It could be a marker over their heads or a colored shimmering of their form, or something else. Just something to let us know whom the NPC has picked to follow, and by its absences, let us know when the NPC drops connection.

I suspect that may be due in part to COVID-19 shutting the theaters for a time. Disney likely sees Plus as their alternative movie outlet for now, and the way the MCU has been swinging for the park fence, Disney would be prudent to keep the momentum and quality going in the franchise, regardless of the medium. The Mandalorian is much the same. Now if they could just get the Muppets onboard the gravy train...

Which James Bond would that be? 'Cause at least a third of a James Bond movie is his social life. On Her Majesty's Secret Service was significantly more than that. And Casino Royale and Skyfall were both origin stories, after a fashion. I do get what you're saying, though. It's why I liked the opening to the new TV series Superman and Lois. Origin story in a nice tidy 5-minute package, and more or less to set the stage for the different variables in this Superman's story (Arrow-verse is full on multi-universe mode).

The best part of playing an old game is the old players
Techwright replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
And can we has your stuff? ☺️ I had a Halo game night with friends on Friday and we're having the same aging comments. One of them pointed out that this quarterly Halo gaming group started 20 years ago. While there I noticed the host's highly energized son with a Nintendo Switch, and I was thinking to myself, "Kid, when I was your age our handhelds played one game, were just movable red lights with 'blip, bleep, bloop' sounds, and had features like sports fields painted on the glass. And we liked it!" -

Hopefully, these poor souls were from extremely remote outpost in the southern Indian ocean. Dude! It was released, like, last millenium! -
Ikea? It's one word. 😉 Suggesting either "Hardy" or "Unquenchable".

Suggestion: please deemphasize the low level arcs
Techwright replied to ZaranBlack's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Simple answer: because they can. Less snarky answer: It's complicated. For me personally, once I found out about Homecoming, I still remembered the first 20 levels in the original game as the end-drain marathon, and combined with limited powers, I didn't really enjoy it. Plus, it was, for the most part, heavily treaded territory for me, as I'd run everything many times in the Original Game. (I've stated elsewhere that I lost track of Frostfire missions after I crossed the 500 mark). So finding any way to get to 20 quickly, and to lesser-known contacts, was to be desired. Interestingly enough, even with some modifications made by Homecoming team, DFB quickly moves me up the ranks, and with P2W's 2x XP boost combined, I hit level 16 after four brief runs, and until recent changes to single origin enhancements, I could use special bonuses on P2W's free damage enhancements up to level 22, That's 6 more levels of DFB, but not that many more trips through. Controllers, possibly my favorite archetype start getting good around 22, and if I get bored between 16 and 22, there's always a few runs through DIB, or if I want, a Posi 1 or 2 TF. Note that I never use an AE farm. All that sums up why levels 20 to 22 serve as targets to speed to, and the reason why contact missions (with lesser XP) tend to get ignored, including Frostfire. I do think the recent change to allow single origin enhancements far earlier will likely address much of the end-drain issue, though I've not tested this yet. -

Perhaps it is just the state that I'm from, but The Andy Griffith Show has never gone off the air here, and can often be found on multiple channels each day, just at different times. It would be more likely that "kids" would know little to nothing of Green Acres or Petticoat Junction.
