So, for most builds water blast and fire blast are easily switchable and for all the builds in here that is also true, except the last one I posted with the melee and ranged softcap. The only reason that is possible is due to having access to 3 pbaoes (thats why we chose dark mastery, we dont care about soul drain as a power, our dmg is already capped, but that extra pbaoe slotting matters for us). Edit: This may not be true you might be able to do it with boxing and cross punch.

I created a defender version of this and it got me thinking if there might be a way to make a corruptor fire/kin softcapped to M/R. Turns out there is. Someone in my SG wanted me to make a defender version of my fire/kin kintank corr. So, I made this. Being a defender really increases your ability to softcap your melee/ranged defense. You won't do as much damage as a corruptor, but you will be relatively safe to all damage types in the game. You have perma hasten with two siphon speeds. I considered making this a proc build, but you really need the full set bonuses to get to the softcap because kinetics has no powers that help with personal survival. I went with conserve power over vengeance and another lotg, but thats up to you. I personally think not needing to use transference for 90 seconds is worth it. You take the agility alpha because this is not a proc build. Remember with enhancements (about 95%) you only need to get to about 205% dmg buff to hit the defender dmg cap. Repel is taken for the knockdown and FF proc, its the only mitigation kinetics gets so I take it. Plus that proc is great. So I've been playing my dp/time corr tank build with provoke and its ability to hold aggro even with provoke is just really disappointing. I don't know what kind of aoe taunt has but it seems to be quite small and a 4 mag taunt every 3 seconds just doesnt seem to be enough to keep everythings attention. So, you know, proceed with caution.

Its still quite viable, but I would make sure to use a mace shield version with softcapped s/l/e as energy damage is just to prevalent to ignore. I'd use this build I just made with the sniper changes in mind and not taking rune: Edit: definitely use the clarion core destiny and the radial assault hybrid and I'd also suggest the reactive interface. On a farm or when you are sure you will not be mezzed go, you can use the ageless destiny. A brute's damage buff cap is 675%, now usually they have about 100% in +damage from enhancements also. If they are running at 325% that means about 425% with enhancements. This means that I can boost their dmg by 250%, while doing a lot of my own damage. I have tested the times on duoing in carnival fire farm maps with EBs and it is considerably faster to have one fire/kin corr and one rad/fire brute than it is to have two rad/fire brutes. This becomes even more apparent with 3-4 farmers, one fire/kin corr with the rest spines or rad brutes. Now, this falls down when you talk about clear times only of the shiva shard map and are stocking reds on both brutes, but then you have to consider that you have loading and buying reds time into it which ends up wasting a lot of time. This is why my SG and I use the longer map when we farm. In regards to the burstiness of blast sets it is true in normal content, but I was careful when talking about outdamaging a blaster to specify when on a farm when you are constantly surrounded by mobs and where being sustained at the dmg cap is more valuable than it would be in normal content where mobs are spread out.

I have tested both and for solo play, the fire/kin wins for dmg output. The reason for this is due to the fire dots being boosted by the damage buffs as well, plus fire blast seems to have a higher base dmg compared to other sets. Now, if you want to increase the amount of dps your team does i.e. overall killing speed, I don't think anything would beat a kin/Sonic defender if you were the only support (it gets muddled when we start looking at more support sets being in the team).

On first look I'd say you dont need the accuracy enhancements as you are way above hitting +3s at 95% (the cap, in configuration in mids base hit and exemplar set tohit to 48). I would also change farsight to just 2 +2 cytos and one +5 lotg as you are aleady above the s/l res cap, I would use the extra slots to lower the endurance drain of your toggles. Also, time's juncture is very good for tanking as it lowers the dmg of all the mobs around you and really helps tanking rarer dmg types.

So I actually took provoke on my tanking defender also because the idea was to actually replace the tank/brute, but I chose to use a corruptor instead. It works....ok, you need to use provoke a bit more than I had originally thought I would. I made this, but the one I actually use is a DP/Time/Dark corruptor because I felt I'd have more dmg and it was more impressive to do on a corruptor. Right and scourge is hard to calculate but its generally accepted at around 20%-25%, making corruptor deal base damage of .9 if we wanna look at it this way. Still, what is more important is the effects of damage buffs when applied to your base dmg. Let's say you have a power that will do 75 dmg on a corruptor and 65 dmg on a defender, now you have 100% +dmg from enhancements, and 100% +dmg from a mostly saturated soul drain and a gaussian proc aim for +110.5% dmg on a corruptor and +130% dmg on a defender. That makes 310.5% +dmg on corr and 330% +dmg and another +30% for vigilance on a defender, unfortunately the defender caps at +300% dmg (400% total as 100% is considered your normal dmg unbuffed). So, this means the dmg on the corruptor attack is 307.85 (75x310.5%) and on the defender 260 (65x4 as 400% is the cap). It is very easy to run up against the dmg cap as a defender and quite difficult on a corruptor because of the slightly lower modifiers and the higher cap. Now lets say you can only consistently have soul drain up (this is easy to do) for 100% and the 100% from enhancements for 200% and we'll throw in the extra 30% from vigilance for the defender. The defender will do 214.5 (65x3.3) and corruptor will do 225 (75x3). So even if we completely disregard scourge (we shouldn't), the corruptor still comes out on top once we get into dmg buffs/enhancements. For this reason, if it is only damage we are considering (not worrying about defenses or resistances or the likelihood that you will likely faceplant with a build like this), corruptor will always do more dmg than a defender with the exception of sonic blast where the stacking better -res buffs will put the defender on top. I hope this makes sense. I would never build a toon like this though, defenses and resistances are incredibly important in order to live and you do 0 dps while dead. For this reason, it is important to identify what powersets you would like to use and what you want to use the toon for when considering whether to build a corruptor or a defender. Edit: I should note that a lot of people seems to forget that the 95%-125% dmg (with or without the alpha) from enhancements is considered buffed dmg as far as the damage cap is concerned, but it is not shown in the damage buff monitor box in game. What this means in practice is that defenders really only need to hit about 200% +dmg buffs to hit the cap (as long as they have 100% damage from enhancements in their powers) and that the corruptor will need to hit about 300%.

I suggest a kin/sonic as this will massively help everyone's damage and as a defender you can still softcap defenses with IOs. I made a build for someone else who wanted to massively increase their team's dps here: That being said if you want a toon to be able to do this early on without IO sets, I'd suggest time. The combination of farsight and time's juncture is just fantastic for standing toe to toe with mobs out of the box.

This is incorrect. It is the agility and spiritual alpha that will affect your proc rate as they act as enhancements. Ageless acts as global recharge and does not affect proc rate.

Have you considered a Soldier of Arachnos instead? They can bring a ton of support without hitting a button (once they put the toggles on first of course). That's the laziest support I can think of in the game.

In looking at mids, it looks like greater fire sword is slightly worse than Scorch, Incinerate, or Cremate in terms of dps. In high recharge builds could you get away with a Scorch > Cremate > Incenerate ST attack chain? It looks like this would actually be better dps than including greater fire sword at all. I'd say this is quite feasible to do, especially on a support toon with higher base modifiers (like a defender). I'd make sure to take maneuvers and tactics early though in order to hit things well. Slotting tactics could be problematic though, 6 slotting it with gaussians isn't exactly ideal, but at least when you are on an 8 man team it would proc a lot (according to some proc testing tactics checks procs on a per target basis, yourself and teammates being the targets in this case).

Yeah, I really dislike cones unless they have a huge arc, plus they don't have a set to help defense.

Yes, I have a rad/fire farming brute that I made into a kind of all around toon with 90% s/l and fire resists with softcapped fire def and 35% s/l def. I'm looking for something different and so I was thinking about the options I listed and started making builds to see what kind of numbers I could get out of each. Here is the current winner, but I should note I haven't looked at Ice because I must have missed the taunt aura. Edit: I looked at ice and it doesnt seems to have a taunt aura just a dmg aura, how does icicles help you keep aggro better than blazing aura or beta decay or evolving armor? Ok, so lets assume money is no object and I have 2 billion inf to spend on this toon (I do). Also, what are your thoughts on perma soul drain vs. build up? Also, is the taunt aura in bio armor and rad armor enough to forgo taunt? Would blazing aura be just as effective?

What powersets are good to tank and do dmg for all around content? I'm thinking fiery melee, dark melee, or titan weapons and bio armor or rad armor (for the taunt toggles). Would fiery aura be better? What primary does the most damage for non-farms? fire? Is having soul drain perma worth going dark melee?

Just take My mastery and get charged armor with no other powers. You'll need to do the villain patron power arc.

A poison/Sonic defender will outdamage a Sonic/poison corruptor. Sonic blast is the only set that can potentially beat a corruptor when solo. I think a cold/Sonic will also win, as well as a rad/Sonic, but I haven't run the numbers.
