In my experience, there are two basic ways: 1) Carefully -- Pull, stay at range, strafe, use defensive inspirations and temp powers. 2) With reckless abandon! -- Load up on red inspirations, Aim+Build up and blow your enemies to smithereens before they know you are even there.

I want to feel effective AND be effective. But there are certainly sets, or set combos more appropriately, that are set and forget and you feel like you aren't doing anything. For example, Bots/FF is pretty effective as long as you aren't at +4. But it's boring, summon, buff, take a nap. But Bots/Traps or Bots/Electric are just as effective but a lot more active. I've recently leveled an Elec/Elec defender and that is approaching too busy. Fun, but I have to pay attention.

I'm not seeing a problem with a Warburg Nuke animation as an incarnate power. Think of it like Gravity's Propel power - you just pulled a nuke from somewhere and tossed it at your enemies. Or Marvel's Magneto doing the same via magnetism. A little creative thinking can make just about anything work.

Thanks for your diary. I really enjoyed it. What surprised me the most was the roller-coaster of money coming in and then going out until you were almost completely broke again. I also usually just give my new characters starting cash of 200-300 million to buy all the transports at level one and start bidding on ATOs, etc. I also keep a lot of commonly used stuff stocked in my base. Between my started cash, the base supply, and what I earn just selling my drops, crafting and converting set IO recipes, vendoring generics, and excess salvage, I end up at a 100 million plus inf banked on that at 50 and fully slotted. And that's when I really start making cash as my character can now kill efficiently at high settings and I no longer have double XP/No Inf. I still do sell my drops, crafting and converting as needed. Once I get them to T3 or T4 and consider them "finished," that's when I have them put in lowball bids on recipes and needed salvage. When I visit them again in a few months, they'll have everything needed to craft a bunch of stuff, place those for sale, and renew bids. So that even unplayed characters are making bank.

I wouldn't complain if all combinations were 100% but, on the other hand, I also don't mind a chance to fail that increases the further apart the levels are. That kind of makes sense to me, maybe because I've seen it done that way for almost 20 years.

Vanguard is under the HC umbrella now, but like the other test servers, transfers to and from are not allowed. Sad, but true.

"Fixed" how exactly?

Sometimes I have a name in mind and try to fit powersets to the name. Other times I have a concept and find a name and look that fits that. Some of my prior concept exercises: what's the maximum number of holds you can have (I forget but it was a fire/rad controller with earth mastery, Rularuu lore pets, and Ion Radial)? What would a fear based character be like (dark/dark stalker with presence pool)? Can I make a character just using power pools (no, but I had 2 primary, 6 secondary, and SIXTEEN pool powers! Worked better than I thought it would). And finally, sometimes I want to play with a new powerset or pool and design a character and name around the powers. I have tried to use the random costume generator, but I always find them horrific and only used on throw away characters while testing something on test server.
