Thank you. i find this informative and thought provoking! I may indeed look at making a PROC'd out build instead of a soft capped build. This is hard for me to even consider but you make a great point. Why a Blaster? While I can get away from my near constant theme and meme characters, this old leopard cannot change it's spots. I hate running buffs, heals, and plants. Not necessarily in that order. So while I will grab a Beam Rifle (and I truly dislike disappearing/reappearing objects) I cannot do Poison Ivy. I mean, we could go out for a bite.... Dominators....this comment intrigues me....I thought they were way overshadowed at incarnate work. Is a Dom competitive with a Beam Rifle Blaster for ST ranged? I will not be jousting in....that is not happening. I like to get comfortable and burn. On a Brute they come to me. If you want to rewrite the entire game to make death patches around your late game bosses...FINE....I will go FULLY ranged DPS. Now, go back and change all the writing again. Stupid Devs.

I normally build all my Brutes for S/L def softcapped. Melee is nice if it happens. Dark Armor is odd in that it is not as important to chase Defense. Yes, the maxim Def>Res>Heal is absolutely true. Except when it is not. Dark has no Defense Debuff Resistance, so against certain enemies your defense is gone. It has great resists that can be easily raised and one of the best heals in the game. But what about defense then? Dark has stealth, which DOES NOT SUPPRESS. So you can jump 5 longbow and start eating their faces and the next group of 16 longbow 20 feet away ignore you. Dark has two toggles that 1) Stun 2) Fear (Pump your build for accuracy, one of these has crap inherent accuracy. ) Mobs that are mezzed do not attack, so you need less defense. So you pull what you want to fight and screw with them while burning them down. That is Dark's "defense" Then resist what hits. The heal is HUGE, quick, and recharges fast. If you are running Dark/Dark you also have a combat heal in your attacks and most of your attacks apply to-hit debuffs, another way to "add defense" Most of my Dark Armor builds do not pump their defense numbers that high, you found one of my experiments evidently lol. In MiDs this says it enhances Heal and End Mod, but then the values are for Heal and End discount. Any clarification? thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. But melee is not an option. That Crackle is evil, as is the Blue patch in TinPex. So the secondary has to do its work from range as well. Possibly Beam/Temporal or Beam/Nrg?

I am looking for a Blaster.....with a "particular set of skills" I am currently using a Ice/Cold Corruptor for my SGs Incarnate badging and general high level madness. But I am looking to make a toon with one job....do very very well at keeping DPS on a hard target that does things like CRACKLE or Battle Maidens BS patches of death, etc. The build must have an incredibly hard hitting ST chain. Preferably with -RES and / or -REGEN effects. The toon will be working as part of an 8/16/24 group to put down hard targets. period. I am considering things like Beam Rifle but have been told I may want to consider Fire!!! Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Unlike many of my concept driven builds this is all about game mechanics. (other than I do not like to personally heal or buff) I would go Corruptor if that worked better but I suspect Blaster will win out. Again, Fully Ranged high damage build that works well with a group to put down the big HP blobs of the world. Thanks.

i do not give "unsolicited advice" i have been known to answer a question, sometimes even getting the details correct in my response. recently had an SG member apologize to me. i was like "what for?" they were like "you were right about this thing and i thought you were wrong and blew you off" meh. i am an ugly old bag of misery and am often a bit off on my details. no harm, no foul. honestly i did not even notice the event sometimes, when the right tone of whine creeps into game chat or the message boards, i will dispense pearls of wisdom. this might be considered unsolicited advice, to the ignorant, yet it a response to a quest for information. even if the person posting has no idea what they really need advice on when you get as old as me you understand these idiots need to be thrown a rope. if they choose to try to make a boat out of the thing there is not much you could have done. it's a rope you idiots!

I would guess that Excelsior would give protection against cold in the same way it protects against pain. Freakshow might be freezing but they do not seem to notice. Complete guess. Excelsior is a metaphysical compound and there may be something deeper at work

I honestly like this better than my thematic dark/dark/soul. The buildup on that is way more suited to melee. But Dark/Psi/Soul has to be the winner The PBAoEs in Psi pair well with the Dark Nuke. Joust in Boom! Then jump out and cone madly! And Psi gets ANOTHER cone lol

The new thoughts on overcapping Res since Dr Aeon. Has been discovered that Resistance value is in fact “debuff resistance” for Resistance. So if you are at 100% S/L resistance for instance, even though hard capped at 90%, you have 100% resistance to any minus resistance effects. So when I build i do not mind bobbling up to 100 on the S/L. This was true before but got discussed a LOT more since Dr Aeon

I finally 50d that mad solo all content project Brute, a Dark Invul. I still have a lot of solo work to do on him 35-50, 40-50, 45-50. But I am teaming on him more now. I run two builds on him currently. One for solo/stealth and as a "damage dealer" in a party that does not need a Tank, or when the Tanking is easy. One for "buckle up they are coming for your liver" Tanking. Both these builds are derivative of Hyperstrikes builds. Any genius credit goes to him. You can give me credit for any unforced errors.
