Big thanks. I did a search after the first post. My search skills fall far below my snark abilities

I have had a few conversations recently about what kind of damage different Blaster sets do , specifically at ST. My goal is ludicrously simple. To determine on a scale of 1-10 how powerful various Blaster sets are at pure ranged single target damage. Sets will not make a difference. ( due to the fact i stubbornly slot each toon nearly identically). Likewise secondaries will not be of much interest. Mostly this is to lump various sets into Rating. Lets call the highest set a 10. I assume this will be fire. Thanks for any responses

ITF is great, and possibly one of the best designs in MMO history
Snarky replied to oedipus_tex's topic in General Discussion
The ITF has always been good (except for "valley of lag" issues on live) But don't you think these over the top dramatic statements are so yesterday? -
First I want to thank everyone for their responses. I gotta drive my numbers! But seriously, I do appreciate ALL the feedback, as I am sure many of you know. As usual when I post a screed on the boards I get an education pretty quickly. That was the case here. I learned there are eighteen bombs. I do these raids as little as I can and thought there were six. Once anyone on your team does a bomb the whole team is locked out for 30 minutes. That removes that drama. Last night I joined an MSR run by Oklahoman. On my main "Snarky" There was some fun spirited ribbing, a few comments and laughs. Someone asked me I had heard any good jokes. My response, "Me being on this F-ing raid." The group was well run and we did what we set out to do. Thank you to Oklahoman and all who participated. I still do not like these things. My main is an Invul Brute, and of course incarnated. So I at least had an interesting job. For me herding the ship to the bowl is way more interesting than sitting and spamming buttons. Still, a half an hour? Really? Meh. 9 to go...

i would think an Illusion Force Controller could be built to have very few damaging attacks. But is that being a Pacifist? I am thinking no. Granted, it's also not going to be a real great late game pick. But it could be built to have almost no directly damaging attacks and still be playable and true to it's sets. The meta of a pacifist in comic book world is possible due to good storytelling. But this is a combat game. Everything, everyone, even objects fight.

This brings up a good place to differentiate the “support”. Control, for the reason stated above is superfluous many times. But debuffs? -res -regen -health etc? From what I gather this is what can really crush those hard targets.
-
I run Brutes. I run Blasters. I have a ice/cold Corruptor that is pure damage and debuff. The debuff plays a very significant role in why that toon is powerful. On hard content like incarnate trials facing hard targets that need a quick burn (Tyrant in Magisterium really hard way etc) a LOT of damage dealers are very welcome. But you need support. If you look at the WoW Dungeon teams, 3 DPS 1 Healer, 1 Tank and expand it out.... Optimal would be about the same ratio, 3 DPS to one mostly support. Tankage varies. 1 is almost always needed. sometimes 2. total. The rest is 75% damage 25% support, in my opinion Support is very needed and necessary. The unavoidable damage patches etc is vicious. Incarnate heals and buffs do a lot of the lifting....but not all. Debuffs are, again, very important on a lot of hard content.

Starry, starry night Portraits hung in empty halls Frame-less heads on nameless walls With eyes that watch the world and can't forget Like the strangers that you've met The ragged men in ragged clothes The silver thorn of bloody rose Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow Now I think I know What you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they're not listening still Perhaps they never will

So, beyond the fact that when published the MSR locked up a huge number of compiters for the people who tried to run it…which just says tons about the Dev staff that threw it out the door….this thing scrapes the bottom of the stupid barrel then goes back down to lick the bottom It lasts 30 minutes of nearly the exact same activity. Yawn. it has two badges that require 10 runs (minimum) to accumulate. That is 5 hours minimum not counting league prep and pylon burns etc. I just saw a group split and send a player to each of the bombs rather than have one go to each team. The league leader specifically told each team where to go. And one team hijacked everyone else’s bombs. This is akin to the griefer on Excelsior who kills Sally non stop and laughs at anyone who tells them they are trying to badge for her. This whole activity is a crap show for an MMORPG in that unless you get lucky you can run this thing 20 times and not get a certain badge. Thats a LOT of game time invested for one badge. Especially now that a certain server is filled with griefers. All of this was fairly predictable to anyone who knows game theory, has ever dealt with people in the real world, or has studied any type of social sciences. None of these things apply to the Dev crew who kicked this turd out the door evidently. If there is an opportunity to take advantage for one’s own benefit or amusement then that WILL happen. Don’t believe me? Go out into rush hour traffic and watch people risking collisions to get one car length ahead Long, boring, low rewards, and a perfect environment for griefers: The Mother Ship Raid

My design goals were just two: 1) Do more damage than a Sentinel 2) Be more survivable than a Sentinel. (as in generally across many enemies missions task forces incarnate work) Now Electric does Meh Blaster damage (this was made before the buff, slightly better now....slightly) but easily out damages any Sentinel both in raw power and in target caps. But I chose Electric specifically so that I could run it 100% ranged...including the tier 9 nuke. I think Water is pure Ranged but I have not looked at Seismic. I think I heard it was not. But I believe (no, i am not going to research this, I sort of remember it) that Electric has better ranges on its attacks. It just sits a tad farther out than most Blasters. Not a lot, but every bit counts in this strategy. DO NOT GET PULLED IN. With a BIG ranged defense and sitting out past where even most ranged attacks hit (AoE ranges tend to be shorter than ST attacks...) You are really playing at the extreme edge of this games design. Then, if things close up or you get stuck in a cave you have TWO "Oh Shit" turtle buttons that are nearly perfect and a third "Oh SHIT" shield that is pretty good. The Phase Shift and Personal Force Field allow you to take major time outs and either run through a cave complex or reposition in case of things like team wipes or massive ambush spawning on you

He has the "power" to be killed by ANY 1st level character.....

I did 50 this Blaster, tier 4d everything, and ran him in Really Hard Way on Saturday night. He did fine. The range is not what I want. I still have to dodge crackle. It is a LOT easier to dodge, unless it is invisible... The build is okay. Stronger than my Dark/Dark Blaster that I used for months. Stronger than the Elec (which has more range but less damage, esp ST) I need to get used to it. But it will function until i find something better or some crazy idea for....a DOM! goes through my head.

Lol. On the tank build? Phase half time. I cannot remember using either the big defense shield or the phase shift more than twice ever. Phase shift is great for running to the back of a crowded map when everything has been agro’d already. Seriously, unless you are fire support on a farm +4/x8 (which you can do with that build) you will not need those two powers The resist+endurance one is something nice and the crash is nothing. They really are “o crap!” Buttons and not part of the rotation in any way The real issue with the build is it is not Blasty enough, in comparison to other Blasters. It has nice AoE from range and a very meh ST rotation. and again, you only have to defend against something you encounter. I do not need energy defense at range 80. It is seriously not an issue. Or melee, or even AoE. How many mobs lob AoE out past 60? Danged few
-
I do not know the formula. I do know the experience. Farmer set at +4/x8 solo generates X treasure. (experience/inspirations/recipes) Farmer + 1 sitter pretty much split ALL of that. Each additional sitter makes the pie slices smaller. I hate farming. I do farm once in a great while. (Did it yesterday) Took a level 1 on my main acct and opened up my alt acct farmer. took a few hours, 50d them, then another hour+ to open all incarnate slots. Have been with my SG when a member said "I want to level this new toon, anyone farming?" and SEVEN of us farmers took him in. It went....fast.

This is my "Blaster answer to the Sentinel problem" Sentinels are great. Meh. until you look at the damage, the damage caps, and the survivability. This build uses a Blaster platform and achieves greater damage than a Sentinel (much less than most Blasters though) and greater survivability than most Sentinels. While hitting tons more AoE. This is done through being fully ranged, softcapped ranged defenses and THREE "Oh crap!" buttons. Phase Shift. Cannot even hit me. I am in a different universe. Personal Force Field. A defense bubble that would make a Paragon Protector jealous, and Force of Nature, jacking your resistance values up and boosting your end bar. Here is a build I threw together (and have now slotted) pretty danged quick. But I knew where I was going. I softcapped to range on a "fully ranged character" granted, you cannot stay at range all the time. But the game is percentages. Def>Res because "just dont get hit" is better. I stay at range and so that is what my build and strategy is based arounf. This is why I tried to get you to discuss what you were trying to do. It is very difficult to make a seamless build, especially with multiple goals. Therefore, by knowing what your playstyle is and what you are attempting to achieve someone might know a way to help you get there. I want softcapped defense, accuracy and a lot of defenses. But going further, I want a fully ranged toon. So.....maybe softcap ranged is enough. Sure, it would be great to have it all. I will also post my "Blaster answer to the Sentinel problem" after this. To show you how crazy it can get. This Hero build was built using Mids Reborn 3.0.5.7 https://github.com/Reborn-Team/MidsReborn Click this DataLink to open the build! Okay. Soft cap to what? Everything? I have many builds (completely unloved by half the community…,many of whom are excellent builders) which achieve softcap Ranged and usually energy defense and nearly permanent hasten. In the thread about really hard way Blaster a couple days ago I posted one. Which I leveled up yesterday, then tier 4d and used in the Really Hard Way. It achieved the goals but I am still not used to it yet If you would be more specific on what you are seeking “all softcap positional”. “Softcap ranged” and more importantly how you hope to use it that would be helpful Many of these builders have attempted various stratagems and if you just gave an idea of where you are going someone migjt have a lot if experience they could share on the matter

Evidence that the Best Computer OS Exists in Praetoria
Snarky replied to Apparition's topic in General Discussion
Well it definitely is not in Paragon or Rogue Isles. There are still CRT monitors everywhere -
I have a 50d ice Blaster that i ran for a while. I found out that a Ice/Cold Corruptor (to my understanding) is just flat out meaner. That is what I am currently on in incarnate content. But I am particularly vexed by Tyrant’s recent beatdown of my new 50 Brute and I want to find a way to maximize payback. My search for a way to maximize damage is revenge motivated. Redside, best side I am thinking a Beam Rifle sitting outside the crackle and constantly burning will be more effective than an Ice on things like Tyrant and Battle Maiden. Lets be honest, in the modern game everyone is nuking crap with damage auras and judgement powers and etc. A solid ST damage specialist is a bit sideways to modern CoH strategies and I am fond of slipping through the cracks

Thank you. i find this informative and thought provoking! I may indeed look at making a PROC'd out build instead of a soft capped build. This is hard for me to even consider but you make a great point. Why a Blaster? While I can get away from my near constant theme and meme characters, this old leopard cannot change it's spots. I hate running buffs, heals, and plants. Not necessarily in that order. So while I will grab a Beam Rifle (and I truly dislike disappearing/reappearing objects) I cannot do Poison Ivy. I mean, we could go out for a bite.... Dominators....this comment intrigues me....I thought they were way overshadowed at incarnate work. Is a Dom competitive with a Beam Rifle Blaster for ST ranged? I will not be jousting in....that is not happening. I like to get comfortable and burn. On a Brute they come to me. If you want to rewrite the entire game to make death patches around your late game bosses...FINE....I will go FULLY ranged DPS. Now, go back and change all the writing again. Stupid Devs.

Thanks. Looks like I will be levelling a Beam/Temp/Munitions this week....with Achilles slotted
