So I join a LRSF. We load in, knock out the two towers, the flyers, and head in to Fight Crimson. I drop Black Hole to gather up the Longbow into my Tar Patch and the team Nukes and Judgements and.... a number of very angry Ballista (who have taken no damage, nor suffered any effects from any of our best and biggest powers) look at the team. Do I get the merits and Hami from the GMs after I have been kicked off the team? Or is that just the joy of playing Dark?

very true, but in tough fights i find the key powers recharge times to be very telling on my ability to contribute to a win.

and, inevitably, i am of a different opinion. measure once, cut twice. or... something like that. let's take the Tank modifications. and these still sting, (the years old ones) as it is one of the reasons i stopped running Brutes. That and Cosmic Council's really hard way. A really hard way to learn Dark Dark Brutes do not belong in much incarnate content lol. Yet, I am glad HC staff did it, and i wish them the best for the second cut. The HC staff has limited time, finite amounts of energy to create, modify, and publish. As a player base we need to accept this. because reality is just right there. Take the new modification to Black Hole. I do not agree with the changes. I think they are missing an opportunity to make the power relevant, and useful. I do not understand all of it. I wonder if the Devs do? Because, while i am crazy, i am not dumb. I have studied Calculus through muti-var, play chess at a respectable club level, and am studying German. which seems harder than calculus. well, until you get to vector analysis. yet the changes they are making, due to the complexities of the game/code/pre existing scenarios, have a lot of possibilities. then there is how we, a player base, will then use, abuse, ignore the new shiny. i tried to draw out at least one person in discussion on what they were talking about ( had no real examples) and was told that was arguing. so, ... i left the topic, but do the Devs know what they are creating? i think not. not until it experiences the cold hard surfaces of live CoH ROFLSTOMP teams and sneaky solo GM killers. publish it. maybe i will like Black Hole better on the second cut in a year or three. maybe not.

it was made up as a term by a guy with his head up his butt as a mcguffin. in reality he did not want anything to change, or not very much. and he wanted no input on anything from the community. so he just promoted cottage rule propaganda. he was much loved

save the costume and create a new toon with that name on the contest server orrrrr.... rename your "favorite name" to a placeholder character and transfer the character to contest server. after contest transfer back and reverse rename Snarky has been on a dozen toons on Excelsior, and is on my current project that is soloing every contact in the game. only level 34, but over a thousand badges

And the new iteration of Black Hole has semi random intangible effects. Which, in my mind, is worse. At least the damn thing did what it stated before. The upcoming version does a draw in / or intangible. And you and tour team get to guess which is which. I know that when you start trying to use the new improved Black Hole as a substitute for Fold Space the team will know exactly how to make their lives better. And hopefully you can find another team…

I will obsessively rebuild if not perfect. Unslotters have become my friend. Respecification is a clunky process, and that is being kind. I took Black Hole on my current Dark Dark Corr. Now at 34. The power is near useless. I use it rarely when solo to snag glowies in crowded rooms. It is (barely) useful for that. I had high hopes when I heard a rumor they were changing it. I looked over the change. Warm dog shit with whipped cream on top is still dog shit. I will be respeccing the build when i move it up to 39 in a few weeks. Right now the only power i might take to replace it is leadership manuevers, and i do not need/want it just yet. Most of my stuff is unaffected by the changes. I stopped running Brutes almost entirely a few years back. Twofold reasons 1) end game mechanics punish melee 2) HC staff (cottage rule?😆 right…) turned Tanks into the premier melee dps. And those are proc’d builds. I ran Brutes not heavily proc’d. Bye bye Brutes. I will respec as needed, but I just play my own way and ignore most stuff. I tried to give input on Black Hole and that turned into a disaster. So, they will implement warm dog shit with whipped cream v2 Black Hole and I will respec out. Time for a solid respec at level 39 anyways. Been having growing pains since late 20s.

I can get a team of 8 in a few minutes 99% time to run any content or trial. Granted I have not tried to lead teams in non TF/SF/Trial stuff, I solo all that. When I need help in a mission (certain badges) I get the help. FAST.

Everything is conditional. In a perfect world a blast AoE with the same footprint (base) same damage and same cast time should equalize across sets. That is just fair. But the game is convoluted and creative and messy. More often than not the powers cannot be compared exactly. Then a lot can. And some are comparable on the surface… until you realize they are different enough that it does not work. Take Blaster Nukes as an example. Look through them at cast times, area, damage, ranged or pbaoe. A very simple tier 9 comparison becomes quite wild. yes, things should be fair. But Tanks should not be king of melee dps. And there ya go.

The rumor (complaint?) is that we are entering the era of Regen/SS Tanks….

it would be Dark, for my Corruptor it might be: 1) Dark Consumption 2) Dark Embrace 3) Bat Storm, ranged AoE (fat circle) minor lethal DoT, fear, -tohit 4) Soul Transfer 5) Spirit Drain

specific targets? so, you glance at a large group of enemies, instantly realize who will be immune to the trawling and KNOW you found a way to make sure they are out of the fight. and you KNOW the intangibility will go away right when the team is ready to attack them you are quite the impressive player. most of us will cast it, be a little shocked about who gets trawled, who gets intangible, how pissed the team gets, and will be kicked by about the 5th application

nice review. but, closing the barn door after the horse was out. i stopped playing Brutes 3? years ago. I am not going back. I like Blasters and Corruptors now. If they got rid of the rainbow Domination AT power effect I might run those, might not. But, Brutes? Homecoming smerfed them, as you would say. And what really hurt? Brutes got the major nerf on live because edge case Brutes were slightly outdamaging Scrappers. Then turn around and make Tanks the go to melee DPS? I have been burned enough. I avoid melee ATs now. My fury is real, Brutes Fury is worthless.

America had slavery when it formed. Not everything is a great idea just because it was in issue 1. If the COTTAGE RULE means hanging onto things like intangibility in Black Hole?
