Hard TFs, and +4s, and newer players. Oh crap
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
That is literally every character I take into any content. I start slapping the I/Os in as soon as I level into the range of the enhancers. The set bonuses will catch up as more slots are dropped. But I dont check builds badges or accolades on PUGs. I tend to PUG with anyone and do not form. Although after this experience I look at advertisements for certain TFs and I just will not go. Maybe that will change in the future. I think not. Excelsior, and I love Excelsior, has become the Freedumb of Homecoming. I played on Freedumb for almost two years. (6 months on Liberty, almost 2 years on Freedumb, the rest of the game's life on Virtue) But lets be honest, people on Freedumb...errr Excelsior definitely fall into a spectrum of players, broad, yet identifiable. There is a fat portion of that curve that has people who have no idea what they are doing and if you get enough of those clinging onto a team in rough content be prepared for a shitty couple hours. Sigh. I remember a +4 PUG ITF I joined. There were only two incarnate 50s on the team. Yet they insisted +4. It was not super horrid, just sort of slow, until the end ROM fight. When the crap his the fan the people who have no idea what they are doing and are not invested in the character beyond "PL MEs" will let you down, quit, be unable to understand much less follow directions and generally screw the mission TF into the ground. In my opinion. So I still am not leading, but I am also not joining tough content on PUGs anymore unless I recognize the leaders name. Oklahoman. Shout out. No idea who you are. You form PUGs for Master runs at incarnate trials, any trials. You succeed. I will join these trials. Random guy, forming Barracuda SF. Yeah, not so much. Those days for me are now over. -
cross post from aniversary thread: doms need moar powers
Snarky replied to Hew's topic in General Discussion
Doms are more pigeon holed than Tanks in Modern CoV. At least Tanks got a nod to doing damage with more AoE. Doms were 'fixed' with a revamp of Domination and never really recovered. Before you could Nitro a Dom with PermaDom. Now, meh. You should still do it, but the payoff....just not what it was. Most crap dies before a Dom finishes locking them down. The stuff that doesnt tends to ignore Holds. In short to give Dom players more options we just need more Blaster sets. Because Doms are second class citizens at best. -
I have seen some recent questioning of my Elec/Temp all ranged build. Really shit talking Elec basically. I do not love Elec. The animations are spot on but I dont have Elec power characters in my head and have to bend my mind to fit concepts. Give me a Dark/Dark Ranged Blaster and I will (mostly) go away. I have seen quite a few posts talk about the Elec penalty. Which I think most are referring to the mostly nonexistent secondary effects. But I have seen smack talk about Elec damage as well. Is it really that bad. I look at Mids. Elec T9 Nuke does same area and damage as other ball nukes. I do the aim+buildup+T9 and +4/x8 mobs disappear a lot of the time in farms (hoverblasting Nukes on a farm is gold folks....) In the modern game teams do so much damage secondary effects....they never really affect anything. If the mobs are gone how effective is Dark's to hit debuff? THEY ARE DEAD. (I really want ranged Dark, but lets get real...)

I PL'd a Beam/energy to 20 and looked at it last night. To me it is complete garbage. The animationm are killing me. He drops his rifle any time he uses any boost from Energy Manipulation (all the time) I may try Beam/Devices But I think I will try Ice/Temp first

Ranged Damage Dealer!!! Suggestions / Feedback / Heckling
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
I have tried it a few times. Ice/Time Ice/Ice baby! I may try it again. I had real good luck with Elec/Time. I may tray Ice/Energy for the range and effect boost. My biggest issue with Ice (besides it not being my true love Dark) is that it is location AoE. I never figure out / coded a hot button to turn it into targeted AoE either. Sigh. I think this will be my next project though. I briefly tried Beam/Energy last night ( PL'd to 20 and looked. It is CONSTANT redraw....every time I use any of the 4 boosts from Energy the rifle disaapears and the poor little blaster looks like he is being electroshocked) -
i have had good luck with elec/temporal for a fully ranged. (now almost fully incarnated and actually sweet) but i was looking to broaden the field a bit

Looking for tips on a secondary for a FULLY RANGED Blaster Beam Rifle. Devices, looks...interesting, even though Targeting Drone and Field Operative would be the only real picks. besides default T1 Energy Manipulation looks interesting as well. I would take Build Up, energize, power Boost, Boost Range. Errr, Does power Boost help BR much? Ant tips here would be appreciated. again, fully ranged hover blastin'

Ranged Damage Dealer!!! Suggestions / Feedback / Heckling
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
.... I feel like I'm talking to a used Car Salesman after I ask for a Blue Sedan and he directs me to a Red Sports Car... "This is the car you want!" I can do fire support for +4/x8 Fire Farms (or any farms) on my Elec Blaster. Heck, i dont even wait for the melee squad to pull. I prefer to hit a fresh spawn first. Hover above them, about 80-85 range. Pick centered mob. Build up, (Aim+Chronos) Hit Thunderous Blast. move down to 75. BOOM. Ball Lightning Repulsion Bomb. If Gaussian Triggers sometimes the entire mob disaapears. poof. At least half of them do no matter what. hover up a little to 100. plink, snipe, more AoE balls. Untouchable. The mobs dont even know what to do. They (the ones that are left) race around in circles. repeat every 47 seconds. never take a single point of damage the entire farm. Try that on a Fire Blaster.... -

I tend to dislike redraw and disappearing weapons. Then again, i dont LOVE Elec. But I sure like it... I do have a costume/character idea I have toyed with. I may drag it out for a Beam Rifle setup and see if it is better than Elec. The character is based off of Cryptosporidium from the "Kill All Humans" games. I just love an uplifting game, don't you? What are really good RANGED secondaries for Beam Rifle? -
Hard TFs, and +4s, and newer players. Oh crap
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
PUG for ITF kill alls is standard these days. And leads to the train wreck in the Barracuda or what another current poster explains happened to his team facing Freedom Phalanx. The only difficulty (after surviving....) in the ITf at any +1 +4 w/e has always been the last Rom fight. Back on live pre-incarnate there were strategies and team composition discussions and...failures. Now the team has so much damage (usually) that even at +4 Rom goes down 4 times faster than a crack ho. The rest of the ITF is just incarnate experience, Inf, and drop farm. But the LRSF, MLTF, Barracuda and a few of the other late game 45+ Strike Forces/Task Forces require more than showing up with a can do attitude like a new recruit at basic training. You need to have some idea what is about to happen and how the team is going to deal with it or your entire boot camp experience is going to involve mud in the face and a sergeant screaming in your ear while standing on your back. -
The Freedom Phalanx wiped my LRSF team.
Snarky replied to Lens Perchance's topic in General Discussion
Read my companion thread for late game hard TFs, +4, and newer players. *gets out of dusty coffin and wanders to the porch "You kids have no idea how hard some of the content in the game can be. We used to fight the Phalanx with Single origin enhancers! You get here and we give you I/Os and builds and you trash everything. Yeah, then a real challenge comes along and you got no idea what to do! Grrrrr. Oh, and get off my lawn!!!" *sits down in rocker on the porch -

So, after my hard learned lesson of a few minutes ago I developed a simple new policy. Someone posts LRSF, or casual Miss Liberty. I send a tell "are you running at +0" No response. three different people. So, thats going well. I think i am taking a few weeks off PUGs lol. -

We fought him for 5-10 minutes and his health bar actually moved down once or twice before returning to full. -
So I joined a Barracuda PUG. Sigh. Why do I do this to myself. Probably the last one. Ever, It was at +4, which was slow going. We load into the last mission, and it hit me. The AVs. Reichsman. +4. Most of this team was really lost on this TF. We grind through it to Reichsman. Guess what? 5h1Z670rM %$&!!! grrrrrr. Tried to get everyone to lower diff and log for 2 min. Did not work. Maybe someone didnt log. Who knows. Lot of drift in there. i was leading some AVs solo on my Blaster and trying to survive ambushes....moderate success. Sigh. Might be my last high level PUG. I am getting to old for this crap.

Ranged Damage Dealer!!! Suggestions / Feedback / Heckling
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
I would kill to make this a Dark Blaster. Seriously. Just say....um. Yeah, okay. But Dark, and Fire have PBAoE T9s. Elec has a ranged T9 (60 that I have squeezed out to 75...) That means my shortest range attack chain is AoE at 75... and I only close to this "short" range once every 30 seconds or so if things are hot. My normal combat range is right at 100. Softcapped Range Def, and how many mobs really throw AoE out past 80??? I only get hit by crap when in tunnels, caves, and office bldgs. I even do Fire Support for +4/x8 Farm (any damage type) as long as it has a 'real' outdoor map. That asteroid you can keep. -
Heyas. still on a quest for my "main" fully Ranged Damage dealer. I have quite the contender. Elec/Temp/Force Blaster. I do not see much in the Blaster primaries that will beat Elec for Ranged Damage. the closest contenders (Water/pistols/rifle) I have issues with. Beam? mebbe... But I want to see if you guy think there is something better. Secondaries? I want range and sustain, range and sustain. ideas? Went with Force for the AoE ranged ball, the mules, etc. Sudden Accel proc in Ball attack So, other Blaster sets that will give this a run for ranged money? It is a different type of "Fear" or "Scare" There is the type of Fear used by Dark Armor/Melee powers on my Brute. Takes Fear enhancements. Mobs are "mezzed" and cower in place with a ghost icon over their face. Then there is the "Scare" used by thing like Artic Air and some location powers. The mobs are scared because they sense damage / effect and just start running wildly. Teams hate this due to mob scatter and you might, erm will, be shamed for using these powers. They take no Fear enhancement, the mobs are not mezzed. They just are triggered into a mechanic to get the heck away.

There are invasions?

On a very related topic over the last two weeks I have noticed a lot more rubber banding. Excelsior.

Yes, it makes a difference. Be a villain. Destroy the power plants of the city. The reactor, the dam. Be a dam villain.

Any Brute will do well. Period. On Single origin enhancers at that. You start to I/O a Brute and it does very well. You I/O, Accolade and Incarnate a Brute and it does amazingly well. You make a tight high end I/O build and balance the Incarnate powers and accolade the thing? Fuggedaboutit. You can take the weirdest combo and still have a incredibly strong character for Incarnate Trials. Basically, whatever you try you are good, and could be golden if you invest some care into the character. I have a Task Force/Incarnate Trial build for my Fire Armor Brute. (a somewhat 'squishy' armor set.) Does great. Ton of damage too. Not Tanking Tyrant on him anytime soon, but there are Tanks who do that.

If this is still your question you have kind of missed the point of nearly every reply. These words mean less than a politicians promises. Use MiDs to find what a power actually does. How much damage, the radius, etc. Then, if you want, make up your own spreadsheet ranking the powers. But trying to rank and compare powers based on these words will take you to a place where Harley Quinn will be 'helping' you find your way back to reality.
