....i just dont see me doing this anytime soon. mostly because....meh. i am a lazy vampire

What the heck is coming at us in this thing? Oh, and why are we doing it again?

I have two comps. My mind does not like windowing spreadsheets. I do it, but I never like it. So I normally have main comp CoH, 2nd comp HC wiki, Discord, Msg Boards. Recently (within the last month or so) I started a 2nd CoH acct and got one 50 on it (a farmer to PL my main acct alts) I tend to run this on the 2nd comp. requires a 2nd email, separate game account. Which led me to wanting a 'real farmer' on my main acct. CoH is addicting. Use caution.

i have done a 45 min Synapse. more than once. on PUGs. Two things drive these short times. 1) getting lucky and getting small maps on the kill alls. A minor tweak the current Devs could make that would be a huge quality of life improvement is default the Kill Alls to small maps. 2) Being on a team of people who want to get this done. I am odd, I like the old TFs. But I still want to get them done. Badge, Merits, GJ, Goodbye. No matter what fix the Devs make there will always be players that do not facilitate fast TFs. Take the Old Posi. Split into two, revamped. I have still been on crap PUGs that take 45-50 minutes to do Part 1. Upping the Difficulty level when you beg them not to. Rushing to the City Hall steps no matter how carefully you try to explain/beg for not going onto city hall steps. Pulling everything they can with no ability to handle the agro and no idea they cannot handle the agro. Not necessarily stupid, but ignorant. Just bone headed ignorant. Get you killed and drag out the TF for long time ignorant. Make you hate PUGs ignorant. hmmmm, i slipped into ranting somewhere. Might as well go with it. "Hey You! Get Off My lawn!"

i like this, and believe it is incredibly accurate. thank you Sometime soon I will attempt to make a "Melee Blaster" Just hardest hitting short animation attacks, depending on team to hold agro and assassinating w/e is distracted. I usually attempt ranged/cone Blasters.

Quite an accurate statement. Again, a lot of talk about T9s..... No talk about Blaster's Secondary sets. The only way to build a ranged blaster with the original sets was an AR/Dev. Every other combination of power sets have PBAoE and Melee attacks. You can either 1) Choose not to take a lot of hard hitting attacks for design reasons 2) Pretend this is not designed to Melee. Yes, Ice is all ranged. Although the Breath is very close range. What do you pair it with? Ice Secondary has 4 Melee attacks and a PBAoE Toggle... Similar with Elec/Elec, Or any other original combo (that is not AR/Dev) has even more melee attacks and PBAoEs. Most people do not need a long explanation that Blasters were designed to be "Blappers" Some people will not listen to the facts. Yes, new sets like Water Blast are all Ranged. If SS/Inv Tank is what an iconic Melee character is then Energy/Energy Blaster is what an iconic Glass Cannon would be. Energy Energy is a Blapper build. The original Developers built the Blaster Archetype as a Damage Dealer class designed to do a lot of work in melee range. Strange outlier power set choices and gimped builds notwithstanding. One of my pet peeves (he has grown up so big now!) is they slapped "Ranged Damage" on the character choice screen. Saying "This is pretty ranged focused" shows you just accepted the label somebody down in marketing slapped on at the last minute or a genuine deep misunderstanding of how Blasters were originally designed. The Devs (and we all love what the created...mostly) were not spot on with all their creations. They give one thing.... we take it, try it, drop it on the floor sideways and do our own thing with it. Players have no choice in what the Devs give us and Devs have no choice what we do with it. When they developed Redside the Developers thought MMs would be the Tank over there. No one had the patience for that. We slapped hard armor Brutes out front (most without taunt) and started cannonballing mobs. That does not mean that MMs were not designed as a Tank class. Because they were designed to be able to do that. They just did a slow mediocre job in normal play and have not improved at the job in the current environment. Any look at Blasters that is not tongue in cheek or obtuse will yield an understanding they were designed to Melee hard. Very hard.

my highest def is 39% melee. Happened more or less by accident. I chased resist and accuracy and recharge

Lets call it 45 seconds. And we can ignore PB AoE Incarnate nukes. Pesky facts like bringing that up. tsk tsk. So, 45 seconds. You do ACTUALLY want to USE this power, yes? Often? So. How long do you wait to strategize how / where to be? Do you immediately pop back out to 80 feet and hit with long range attacks when not PBAoE nuking? Because, (pesky facts) I am thinking you might jump into a fresh spawn, nuke, then start cleanup. With team or solo. This will take, ....some time. 45 seconds. hmmm. Almost time to nuke again. Do I run back out to 80? or....just set up for my next PBAoE nuke? I have run Blasters. You Nuke, you incarnate Nuke, you hit a few AoEs, you ST one or two things, then you Nuke again. Which means you are at close range to PB range nearly all the time. And i softcap all my Blasters to Ranged Def, because I try to stay 8+ feet away. But truly ranged? hmmm. Not much in the modern game. Chain cones at 30-40 is about as ranged as you get. Then jump in to Nuke. Cleanup. joust, cone, jump in, nuke. So, how do you play a character with PB Nukes. You are saying you play them ranged? Or....you are saying they are theoretically a ranged character?
-
Oh my friend! How wrong you are. I once thought as you do, sitting on a SS/Inv looking at Dark...WTF? Oh, but now... Dark Armor has No Defense, except a tiny amount on Cloak of Darkness (the Stealth cloak) None. Wait, it depends on what you call "Defense" Not being seen by enemies until I want their agro....Defense. AoE stunning those that see me (Stun Aura) Defense. Scaring the crap out of those that see me? (Fear Aura) Defense. Hitting those that see me so that I debuff their accuracy. Defense You see, Dark Armor's Stealth Cloak allows you to pick your fights, You can crush an entire spawn and the spawn 30 feet away just stands there eating their sandwiches and talking about how henchmen need better health benefits. They do not see a Stealthed Brute until you choose for them to.

*taps foot. stares at carefully constructed argument. "screw it" kicks...you are leaving out the entire structure of every secondary set except devices. which you sort of cherry pick and then admit it is not truly ranged. saying most of the primaries are ranged except for the crashless nukes is lying claiming to be a virgin if you ignore all the butt stuff
-
I will throw out the first complaint. Because...yeah. Hi! Blaster sets are sold as "Ranged" Horsecrap. The entire Archetype was built from the ground up as Blapper and there are some pure ranged sets. Not in secondaries. But Primary you have Electric which is almost all ranged and Ice. I just got tired of the 100x variation on Ice Machine concept. I mean, I love Ice...but running an ice machine is only so entertaining. Also the damage is meh. I did discover one bit of gold. An Ice/Cold Corruptor is the MOST powerful configuration of Ice in the game, in my opinion. The debuffs in Cold are insanely good, and the Corruptor inherent works well with the DoT rains. Disappearing/Reappearing weapons. I am not a big fan of any graphic that cannot keep track of a weapon. Where does it go? Where does it come from? If you have a giant Ice Sword why dont you use that all the time instead of punching people? Why do i have to spend all my mental energy trying to justify this stupid graphic issue. Weapons are not my theme in CoX due to many of these issues. The ice and fire melee sets have been auto avoided ever since I saw that stuff years ago. I run a Dark/Dark Brute as my main. Yes, it is that good.

and in my continuing theme of NOT quite yet creating a Fire farmer...I did Patron poll and respec'd...to another PvE TF build. Still going to be doing Incarnate stuff and getting accolades. How many Respecs do you use to get the build just right?
Snarky replied to FullEclipse's topic in General Discussion
Normally I build in MiDs and slap that on. If I find something i dislike or want to change I respec. If I run the character a long time I sometimes alter things. My main (a Dark/Dark) I have slowly evolved with a slight tweak every month or two requiring a respec. My new Farmer....there is some work there lol. I created a "standard build" and slapped that on last night (I just 50d him) I will run that build to open up patron powers. Once I open up patron pool and get Cardiac incarnate on him I will Respec. Then I will run "Standard build v 2.0" through Accolade collecting and incarnating the character. Then I will slap "Farmer build v 1.0" on him and see how i like that. That may get tweaked in the future as well. -
One of the things I love about my Dark/Dark main Brute is laughing at Minds of Mayhem Incarnate Trial. 90% Psi Resistance. It just keeps getting funnier...every...single...time.

Well, the biggest villain of all times goes by Lightbringer. Or, according to modern scholars, more properly "shining one." Still, as a vampire it is hard to give you a pass. 🙂 I too have difficulty when confronted with a peanut butter and tuna mix of powersets. I just went with a Demon who likes to hurt things and sought out the most effective ways to do so... I was inspired for a name by Stormbringer, which I suppose is just derivative of Lightbringer. So, now the world has Snarkbringer. Here is the build I slapped on last night to get Patron pool unlocked, badge for accolades, and then do incarnate stuff. I have been playing my badger pretty exclusively lately and so transferred over 250 Emp merits to the new farmer. Incarnate to T4 should not take long... Accolades will prob take longer. I will no doubt rebuild once at least as a "normal build" including Mu pool and with a Cardiac Alpha just to see how that runs. Then I will most probably shatter the whole thing and rebuild as a strict Farmer. Again, I run my Dark/Dark nowhere near softcap on anything. Actually a very Tanky character. I chased resist on him and it payed off. I think Dark is a better Armor set than Fire, for protection anyways. While it does not have Defense, Dark has Two Mezze auras. One Fear, one Stun. And they do help. Anyways, here is the build I slapped on last night to start getting accolades, open patron pool, and start running Incarnate content. I think once I get enough of all that stuff to be happy I will just respec into the farm build. I do not see this toon as being something I run in regular content. as i built it out I realized what a gem Dark/Dark is lol. Life is busy (work/workouts...) But last night I got my fledging new future farmer to 43 by PLing him with my alt acct SS/Fire. (I dislike SS in farming, the crash is frustrating. I can deal with it in most mission environments but it is thumb twiddling time in AE and throws off my rythym) I hope to 50 him tonight and start the buildout. My first build will actually be a resist heavy non-farm build for gathering accolades and doing Incarnate Trials. (I started a thread in Brute forum asking for builds. If you have a good one can post there...or here) After I get him Accoladed and Incarnated I will Alt-build a Farm version and start clearing maps!
-
looking to run my new farmer through incarnate content as i unlock powers. i prefer to build a Tanky version instead of a Farm version and run that. i do enjoy comfort. A decent search of the Brute forums turned up to "high defense" non farm builds.... A wiser mind than mine pointed out that chasing Defense on a Resist set is not...good. My Dark/Dark main sits at around 30% on best defenses and I never consciously chased any of it. I build Resist for resistance, then recharge. When in trouble i heal gtfo tactics if resistance isnt cutting it. Anyone got a strong incarnate build for late game incarnate trials?

Welcome back. Good news, any modern comp will play City of Villains like a champ. i bought a mid level box from Best Buy when I first rediscovered it. (was using an ipad for all comp needs) and then about a year and a half ago an upper end (lower end of the upper end, $900) tower from Best Buy on a Thanksgiving sale. Both run City of Villains like a champ. I just use the House WiFi that has about 12-15 devices on it. I do run an EtherNet cable for my two gaming boxes.

This has been very educational. Thank you all. I am going for a Rad/Fire/Mu in a bow to "for once in my life taking advice." I still have to come up with a character concept for it. Hmmm. I will PL this with my alt account (a SS/Fire/Pyre...built more for regular content because that is how I know to build) to 50. Then my thinking is to throw on a "normal Rad/Fire build" and do incarnate content and accolades. After I have the toon fully set up I will throw on the ALT build and have my farmer. Again, thanks for all the detailed info and advice. (and builds!)

The CoV Breakout was the best. Both for nostalgia and the great feel of being a villain. Did not always fit some of my concepts, but it did a lot of them. Then Fort Darwin. sigh. How I miss thee. Still, killing Blue Spectrum and hearing some wanna be hero droning on about "somethings gone wrong" is a hoot.
