  2. Normally I build in MiDs and slap that on. If I find something i dislike or want to change I respec. If I run the character a long time I sometimes alter things. My main (a Dark/Dark) I have slowly evolved with a slight tweak every month or two requiring a respec. My new Farmer....there is some work there lol. I created a "standard build" and slapped that on last night (I just 50d him) I will run that build to open up patron powers. Once I open up patron pool and get Cardiac incarnate on him I will Respec. Then I will run "Standard build v 2.0" through Accolade collecting and incarnating the character. Then I will slap "Farmer build v 1.0" on him and see how i like that. That may get tweaked in the future as well.
  3. One of the things I love about my Dark/Dark main Brute is laughing at Minds of Mayhem Incarnate Trial. 90% Psi Resistance. It just keeps getting funnier...every...single...time.
  4. Well, the biggest villain of all times goes by Lightbringer. Or, according to modern scholars, more properly "shining one." Still, as a vampire it is hard to give you a pass. 🙂 I too have difficulty when confronted with a peanut butter and tuna mix of powersets. I just went with a Demon who likes to hurt things and sought out the most effective ways to do so... I was inspired for a name by Stormbringer, which I suppose is just derivative of Lightbringer. So, now the world has Snarkbringer. Here is the build I slapped on last night to get Patron pool unlocked, badge for accolades, and then do incarnate stuff. I have been playing my badger pretty exclusively lately and so transferred over 250 Emp merits to the new farmer. Incarnate to T4 should not take long... Accolades will prob take longer. I will no doubt rebuild once at least as a "normal build" including Mu pool and with a Cardiac Alpha just to see how that runs. Then I will most probably shatter the whole thing and rebuild as a strict Farmer. 5. Again, I run my Dark/Dark nowhere near softcap on anything. Actually a very Tanky character. I chased resist on him and it payed off. I think Dark is a better Armor set than Fire, for protection anyways. While it does not have Defense, Dark has Two Mezze auras. One Fear, one Stun. And they do help. Anyways, here is the build I slapped on last night to start getting accolades, open patron pool, and start running Incarnate content. I think once I get enough of all that stuff to be happy I will just respec into the farm build. I do not see this toon as being something I run in regular content. as i built it out I realized what a gem Dark/Dark is lol. 6. Life is busy (work/workouts...) But last night I got my fledging new future farmer to 43 by PLing him with my alt acct SS/Fire. (I dislike SS in farming, the crash is frustrating. I can deal with it in most mission environments but it is thumb twiddling time in AE and throws off my rythym) I hope to 50 him tonight and start the buildout. My first build will actually be a resist heavy non-farm build for gathering accolades and doing Incarnate Trials. (I started a thread in Brute forum asking for builds. If you have a good one can post there...or here) After I get him Accoladed and Incarnated I will Alt-build a Farm version and start clearing maps!
  7. looking to run my new farmer through incarnate content as i unlock powers. i prefer to build a Tanky version instead of a Farm version and run that. i do enjoy comfort. A decent search of the Brute forums turned up to "high defense" non farm builds.... A wiser mind than mine pointed out that chasing Defense on a Resist set is not...good. My Dark/Dark main sits at around 30% on best defenses and I never consciously chased any of it. I build Resist for resistance, then recharge. When in trouble i heal gtfo tactics if resistance isnt cutting it. Anyone got a strong incarnate build for late game incarnate trials?
  8. Welcome back. Good news, any modern comp will play City of Villains like a champ. i bought a mid level box from Best Buy when I first rediscovered it. (was using an ipad for all comp needs) and then about a year and a half ago an upper end (lower end of the upper end, $900) tower from Best Buy on a Thanksgiving sale. Both run City of Villains like a champ. I just use the House WiFi that has about 12-15 devices on it. I do run an EtherNet cable for my two gaming boxes.
  9. This has been very educational. Thank you all. I am going for a Rad/Fire/Mu in a bow to "for once in my life taking advice." I still have to come up with a character concept for it. Hmmm. I will PL this with my alt account (a SS/Fire/Pyre...built more for regular content because that is how I know to build) to 50. Then my thinking is to throw on a "normal Rad/Fire build" and do incarnate content and accolades. After I have the toon fully set up I will throw on the ALT build and have my farmer. Again, thanks for all the detailed info and advice. (and builds!)
  10. The CoV Breakout was the best. Both for nostalgia and the great feel of being a villain. Did not always fit some of my concepts, but it did a lot of them. Then Fort Darwin. sigh. How I miss thee. Still, killing Blue Spectrum and hearing some wanna be hero droning on about "somethings gone wrong" is a hoot.
  11. i do not think i am up to quad boxing....but i have two comps up. i can comfortable manage a rad/fire on my main with a spines/fire tag-a-long. thanks for the inspiration
  12. I recently finally got a Farmer up and running (on an alt acct) so that I can PL my projects whenever I want. It is a relatively solid SS/Fire/Pyre Brute. i just T3'd him and will be filling out his Incarnate powers as they are pretty spotty right now. Musc Core Alpha, Pyronic Core Judgement, Barrier Core Destiny, Reactive Core Interface, and Assault Core Hybrid. That is the plan anyways. In those future days when I have time I will get him Melee Hybrid and a second (and/or third) Destiny as well. Now that I have this alt acct set up I look at my main account with....no farmer. You can really rake in the cash and I love fighting mobs. So.... What is actually the top AT/powersets for clearing stuff out? Are there 3-5 that are real similar? Is there one particular AT-power setup that is much better? Of course I am talking custom maps. My fire Brute is doing okay in i Trials but that may just be luck as much as anything. he has not done a lot of them. But in a Fire tunnel he is a god.
  13. My love of Willpower goes back to live. When you had to take extra picks to get Health and Stamina instead of them being free. i ran so many Invulnerability Brutes gasping for breath until level 20 lol. With the advent of Willpower I had a Brute that could be free of the End Bar struggle. Granted they could not handle Alphas as well as Invulnerability, but what can? Now that i look at Tank sets (specifically the Tanker AT sets) I think maybe, just maybe a Willpower built toward resist might be much more comparable to an Invulnerability. 6% res here, 6% res there, pretty soon you are talking real numbers. And anything a Willpower can stand through for a few seconds they can recover from by the next attack chain. Danged, now I have another project to 50! heh.
  14. I love Willpower. Always have, always will. power. heh. Sadly it is a anemic little brother to Invulnerability in todays game. With sets and incarnates anything Willpower can do Invulnerability can do better. Except specific Trials and mobs like MoM incarnate trial and large groups of pure (and I mean pure, very rare) Psi damage. And Willpower doesnt do spectacular in those situations (not as well as my Dark armor tanks and brutes, who ignore the stuff while everyone dies...or runs) Here is a template from Hyperstrike. He made one of these for each AT with an Invulnerability armor set. I have run a couple of his builds as mains for long seasons. Very happy with his work. Just plunk in whatever attack set you want and start tailoring the other sets to your build goals. Hyperstrike has already milked everything you can out of the Armor side of the AT. 15. i either get really lucky. take one random purple and convert it to Hecatomb! and then one conversion to the exact one I need! Or....I sit and convert Steadfast Protection back and forth between the two not plus global defense as i watch my profits drain and want to hurl the computer off the desk...
  16. again, no exact science. but the answer will be somewhere between "not much" and "real similar"
  17. I also do not delve into the numbers. But here are some thoughts and observations. Farming) 1 farmer, 1 doorsiter. Huge exp. Farming) 1 Farmer 7 Doorsitters, okay experience. Missions. +0/x0 1 character. doing okay. with three characters you are effectively +0/x3 and everyone is working. So, in my mind you should level the same as if just one person went through, because you are effectively doing 3xwork with 3xtoons
  18. I have not run Shield (or any Defense set, they do not appeal to me) But I have run...a few...Brutes. Things that jump out at me. 1) Is your End okay? Because you are throwing Power Transfer Chance to Heal in everyplace I would normally cram a Performance Shifter Chance for +End 2) Focused Accuracy? Speaking of End, what a Hog. Don't get me wrong, I love the power. But I normally only cram it onto something like a Energy Melee/Willpower as a luxury item Your build has a Kismet +Accuracy and Global Accuracy bonuses already 3) Speaking of Focused Accuracy. You have Gaussians Buildup in it. That means the thing will PROC randomly. I would put it in Concentration so that the Builup PROCs right before the "Big Swing" not while I am in a corridor walking towards the next mobs. When i allow myself Focused Accuracy I throw in the Rectified Reticle +Perc Global. I like the name and love the buff. 4) Boxing ...unslotted. Nope. Kick...drop a Force Feedback +Recharge in it. On the rare occasions you have been recharge Nerfed you can kick somebody 1) for the extra attack now that your attack chain is shot 2) get your Recharge rate back up. 5) You are way chasing -KB...21 points? you have 11 points on top of Active Defense. 4 pts KB protection is what I run on my Main Dark/Dark. 4 is okay. Not great, okay. 5-11 is pretty much like 4 95% time. 12+ is Gold. 21? 21? Are you building to only fight Back Alley Brawler all the time solo? Trying to think of the need that creates this build goal... Maybe drop a Blessing of the Zephyr -Slow Resistance in Super Speed at least? I cannot speak to the details of Psionic Melee or Shield Defense. I have never run either. Shield was a go-to flavor of the year for a season, so I know it can be good. Psi has a very strange damage type, which is always nice. But as for particular slotting on those powers or power picks I got nuthin'. Enjoy the journey.
  19. It is harder to form Redside Strike Forces. Always has been. If I do go to form one I put tongue firmly in cheek and start posting stuff like "You said you wanted Redside Content. WHERE ARE YOU? Operative Renault Strike Force FORMING X merits blank Badge. C'mon down and be the villain you know the world needs!"
  20. Lord Recluse Strike Force. Miss Liberty Task Force. I struggle to play WoW for (I am guessing) the same reason your first forays into these Task Forces will be confusing. Everyone has done them a gazillion times and are busy accomplishing the mission goals and avoiding the time sinks. And I am wandering around going "Bueller? Bueller?" Since I have played WoW sporadically and never done a season of completing a ton of group content I am lost in most Dungeons. LFG never worked/worked well in City of Heroes/Villains. We form teams then do content.
  21. ...i think i must be doing something wrong...
  22. Now you've got me obsessing over why we cannot change MMs pet costumes. Again. Why??????
  23. I get what you are saying, but how would that be implemented? Would it ignore all costumes on that toon. Or just that costume slot, presumably until a alteration was made....?
  24. really looking forward to learning thumbtack and using it effectively. seems sure to make badging easier especially. Honestly I am working a lot (and harder, sigh) so my gaming time has been reduced and ...unenthused lol. I think the travel power revamp was brilliant. The logic of the moves was precise. The revamp as a whole took into account the current CoH/V communities desire for speed speed speed on nearly everything. The change to rocket board/magic carpet/disc thingy so that it doesnt shut off toggles was a answer to melee characters desire to dump temp jetpacks! Even though I personally did not like the Rune of Protection Revamp. I run a Dark/Dark Brute as a main. THis is a VERY high recharge build. Making RoP ignore recharge and shortening the effectiveness period was not a win in my book. Still, I see the logic. To quote a line from Bad Santa "They can't all be winners kid."
  25. Consume is nearly a must. I have a fire farmer. The end issues are real. You could take Cardiac Alpha, But to me that uses an incarnate pick to solve something one power would do. My main is a Dark/Dark Brute. Huge end issues. It has Dark Consumption (Darks version of Consume) and I did take Cardiac Alpha. Against very tough opponents uses end drain tactics I need it. Never except in that situation. It is very very very handy then. Again, I run Dark. Darks version of Rise of the Phoenix is very good and I take it. It is almost never used. (I play hard, tough stuff and a LOT of it) Maybe once a week. Here is the thing, The dam power is incredible, but if I am in something that is killing my main.....I just Rez to get smacked down within a minute. I have started to Rez and Run, which I HATE. But there are seriously few options if content is putting down my incarnate Dark/Dark Brute main. So...maybe?
