I have sort of moved on to Ice. There are numerous reasons for that. From my (admittedly unscientific) perspective Ice and Electric are real similar in damage. Ice has better ST (I believe...) and is one of the reasons I moved to it. Those AVs do not burn themselves down. Ice has a secondary effect! I enhance that with set bonuses and Incarnate choices! (And i am sure the hate will roll in for picking non optimal Incarnate powers...) Because while everyone says secondary effects are important (Elec is so screwed! Did you hear what they did to it? It has no secondary effect really...) as soon as you start building for them you are in cuckoo land. (Why would you even bother with secondary effect? Dont they know stuff should already be dead?) But i build a Super character. That includes a back story, power choices that make sense, and a theme. That locks me out of Ranged sets like Water Blast because my mind comes up with nothing. The set reminds me of "Wonder Twins power Activate...." Like, WTF, what do i do with this? Water, steam, er ice....hmmmm. There is a backstory there somewhere but you need to give me a second. Ah! A character was hit by a gamma explosion on the sinking titanic and absorded the ships steam powers and the icy chill of the North Atlantic! So, another undead then.... hmmmmm odd.

How do you use 2XP boost from the P2W vendor?

I speed levelled and incarnated an Ice/Temp/Ice Blaster. PUGing Incarnate Trials (the easy ones) is usually okay. I still get peeved when a prisoner escapes. How many AFKers do we got? is all i can think. I am in a "project team" that I joined late and is slow rolling through all content, meeting once a week. I had designed one Blaster for that, then realized it used villain epic powers as part of the build strategy. sigh. So I levelled a clone of Ice/Temp/Ice Blaster to run in that. Since I have it and plan for it to be a long term thing (once I farmed it to appropriate level) I started running the TFs with it for badges/merits. This non incarnate version may end up being my next main if it ever 50s lol. Joined a random PUG Posi2 last night. I prefer to do the TFs in order. That is just another quirk I got. If I dont see a Posi 1 tonight I might lead one. Eeeek. It was a little rough. But here is the thing, I do not mind that. I have never been a 'great player.' and I know this. I main Brutes and I Scrapper-lock on crap the teams care nothing about way too often. I survive and get inf/exp etc but the value to the team on those decisions is questionable 90% time. errr 95% I also am not great on Blasters. I love to Nuke a fresh spawn even if I dont have a nuke (posi2) and not enough of the team is near me. (I did not die once!) But again, not great play. But there were some real new players in the team last night. As much as I lovbe that (and i do, new CoH players are like puppies, just cute lol) it does not make for a smooth flow. Posi 2 has some weird maps and that kept splitting the team. Only have so many ATT after all. There were 13 deaths (someone put up a master counter. That was funny) But we completed and the time was not horrible, on the clock and/or perception wise. I had a good time. I enjoy this type of PUG. To me it is my native element. For whatever reason Redside teams (when you could get them) were more or less like this. I think because people are less invested Redside, do not know the ATs, are doing concept characters, not throwing tons of I/Os on it, whatever. But Redside teams always feel like the dog's dinner. You get what you get. That is fine with me up until people start screwing with me getting any merits and the TF is dragging out into the takes forever realm. Or the perfect storm, takes forever and fails. I ...may....lead som TFs on this Blaster to get the ones I want in order. My game time is short each week and if you want to get stuff done you have to step up. Sigh, leading PUGs Blueside. Where did I go wrong Lord Recluse? -
I never have this problem. I run a Brute as a main. (usually, I have been through bouts of Tanking and Blasting) My current Dark/Dark Brute does exactly what all my Brutes do. Look for the biggest boss and start hitting it. If something gets in my way while I am heading to the boss I kill it. Then I keep going to the boss. if there are a TON of enemies between me and the boss I ignore them. And go hit the boss. As you can see, there is no problem for me with people being scared, or running, or w/e. I am single minded. Slight caveat, been running a lot of high end content (Magisterium trials, etc) and lately some of those bosses have started to jitterbug around the map like they got ants in their pants. But this is a problem for the whole League wailing on the AV, not just me. And my current Brute has fly on all the time. So I just track down the dancing AV clown. And hit it. Single minded.

That is a beautiful creation, in the evilest way. My art tends more toward representation and copying. i am not bad at it. But I always appreciate people who create dramatic new edgy things. Very nice.

Yeah, I saw the EMPs team post about never running an ITF again. I too whispered the ITF is "usually" the best non AE rewards/time TF in the game. Sigh. It makes me think I should lead more teams. I am not going to. But it does make me think that. -
I have a new 50. Very happy so far. I am running him a bit sideways I know, but just wanting to make sure they are conscious choices and not true...erm...ignorance. My build is a bit crammed (shock!) and so I ony have one enhancer in Frost Breath, Ragnarok KD proc. My thought was it has a very short range and I would not use it much. But.... staying out past 50 is difficult and I need the AoE. Is it worth reconfiguring the build to try to fix that. Ice + Procs. This is NOT a high damage Ice Proc build. Thanks. No thanks. This is a very ranged Ice machine. delivering chilled opponents at a distance. a GREAT distance. Snow Storm. The signature power I took from the Ice Epic. (the other two are either meh (the heal) or the armor (on any epic) Is this power worth it? On a DoT 2 rain powerset it seems wise (My incarnates I am going for range and -move -rech as well) Is this power working? It is so hard to tell with the subtle crap in CoV... Time shift. I fully enhanced this as well (partly for set bonuses) but, CoV logic being crazy as usual, the -run is unenhanceable. Only enhances -fly, -jump.... who the F flies and jumps? Which mobs? Nobody, right. Another power I wonder if I am doing it right anyways. Thanks for the feedback. Here is the build. Hard TFs, and +4s, and newer players. Oh crap
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Some interesting updates in my PUG life. "My PUG Life...." I need to write a book. Ad for +4 ITF. I still need incarnate experience and threads. O yeah. I was in RWZ having just did a MoITF. I join. We start. There was some....o heck, there was a LOT...of confusion. THis was a "Speed Run at +4" only no one told us and we started cleaning as a kill most, because +4. Then the team was split, some died. You get the picture. The first two missions were a clown car. We got it dialed in by the 3rd. Also, on my hover blaster Ice/Temp/Ice, I was flying in missions 3+4. So..... It got smooth for me at least. Ad for +4 Kill Most LGTF. Hmmm. Last of incarnate to open Hybrid... Hmmmm Sure, why not. I join. The leader has like 57 badges. Remember what Ukase said. Damned. But he does have a tricked out build. That is one of the things I look at. You got a list of set bonuses as long as my arm you are at least trying to do something. I mean, my brand new 50 has no accolades and crap for badges, right? The PUG forms and we roll in. It was a alien slaughterfest. Not slow. Not super fast, I mean we killed everything but the art on the office walls. Some of that may be blood splattered though. My ranged nuke ice strategy was working great, even in alien tunnels. I could get ahead of the group and aim+BU, T9, secondary Rain, and frost breath. 95% of large group gone. Plink plink. All gone. look, here the team. Move on, nothing to see here. Had a great time. But I am still looking at the 45+ content suspiciously. I did PUG a MLTF. It was advertised as speed, and we did. Went well. I think I will just avoid the Reichsman, and a few other choice TFs with odd mechanics. Whats the one with...Dubois? THe Duplicate dude that flies and teleports and if you are on a bad team is like a trip to the dentist. THose TFs that I know can be bitter, like Barracuda. Never PUG again. But how can you screw up an ITF? Damn. -
there is a mender in ouro who will soft start you onto the incarnate track. mender Ramiel

The build is exactly the way it should be. Do not alter it as if trying to make a truck into a motorcycle even if it will balance on two wheels. It is not a motorcycle. Psy damage tanking requires something like Dark Armor. for the other 99% game you have Invulnerability. The best armor set in the game for taking damage. until you start trying to fill the Psy hole and it starts to drop behind other sets because you are not playing to it's strengths
-
no, not solo hover farming (which I think we be better on my Elec/Temp/Force....those mobs disappear on the alpha a LOT. But on the Ice? yeah, DoT incites the run mechanic.) I am talking about seeing ads recruiting hitters for Hover Farms.... Just started noticing it

Hard TFs, and +4s, and newer players. Oh crap
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
I seriously have no sympathy. I started Redside on Liberty back in the day. I did not even know it was not a busy server. My first MMORPG. And i only played villains. So, place being deserted was pretty much usual for me. -
I am not new to Farming. I do not tend to like it. Don't ask me why. Just do not. I join farms to level, and prefer to fight when I can, even at disadvantages. I recently got a second account up and have one toon, a SS/Fire farmer on it. This is to PL my main account projects. Then i decided to get a real farmer, and about two weeks ago created a Rad/Fire Brute. Has two builds, PvE TF, and PvE Farm. Do not like solo farming. still. So, that isnt getting used much. With my ability to PL myself I finally got around to further exploring my Blaster concepts. This has been an ongoing thing with me since back on live. What can I say, I am not great at working through some stuff. But, i finally got a fully ranged Blaster up. I liked it. A lot! Elec/Temp/Force. Softcap ranged defense. After I 50d him I joined some Farms to hover blast and open incarnate slots. Worked real well. i mean REAL well. So, i went looking at other builds and discovered my abandoned 43 Ice/Temp Blaster. PLd that to 50, built it out. Joined a farm or two. Worked well. Real well. Now I am starting to see ads for Hover Farms in Atlas. I literally never saw this before. I have to tell you, after you hover blast a farm you will be hard pressed to going back to tanking or bruting a farm. It is that good. t9 at range? Oh, yeah. Aim+BuildUp+Nuke yessssss Have these hover farms been around a while and I missed it? Or am I actually part of a trend for once?

I do know how to make 'em... I'll let this simmer then drop a thread about my new Ice/Temp/Ice. I am sure the decision to take epic ice pool on a blaster alone will generate more hate (despite the fact that Elec gets a lot of hate for no secondary effect and Ice Epic tilts Ice/Temp hard into slow everything to a crawl wile in DoTs....)

The Freedom Phalanx wiped my LRSF team.

In Horse racing I am given to understand they add weights to fast horses as a balancing factor. Maybe this does not happen anymore, I know squat about horse racing. On Freedumb, errr Excelsior we have some great players. As balancing factors to the high end builds and knowing mostly what we are doing we add dead weight to most TFs and Teams in the form of clueless AFKers who bring the difficulty back up and lower the rewards. You never know exactly the handicap you are under, but trust me, on any team formed on LFG you got yourself some dead ass weight. -
Hard TFs, and +4s, and newer players. Oh crap
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
That is literally every character I take into any content. I start slapping the I/Os in as soon as I level into the range of the enhancers. The set bonuses will catch up as more slots are dropped. But I dont check builds badges or accolades on PUGs. I tend to PUG with anyone and do not form. Although after this experience I look at advertisements for certain TFs and I just will not go. Maybe that will change in the future. I think not. Excelsior, and I love Excelsior, has become the Freedumb of Homecoming. I played on Freedumb for almost two years. (6 months on Liberty, almost 2 years on Freedumb, the rest of the game's life on Virtue) But lets be honest, people on Freedumb...errr Excelsior definitely fall into a spectrum of players, broad, yet identifiable. There is a fat portion of that curve that has people who have no idea what they are doing and if you get enough of those clinging onto a team in rough content be prepared for a shitty couple hours. Sigh. I remember a +4 PUG ITF I joined. There were only two incarnate 50s on the team. Yet they insisted +4. It was not super horrid, just sort of slow, until the end ROM fight. When the crap his the fan the people who have no idea what they are doing and are not invested in the character beyond "PL MEs" will let you down, quit, be unable to understand much less follow directions and generally screw the mission TF into the ground. In my opinion. So I still am not leading, but I am also not joining tough content on PUGs anymore unless I recognize the leaders name. Oklahoman. Shout out. No idea who you are. You form PUGs for Master runs at incarnate trials, any trials. You succeed. I will join these trials. Random guy, forming Barracuda SF. Yeah, not so much. Those days for me are now over. -
cross post from aniversary thread: doms need moar powers
Snarky replied to Hew's topic in General Discussion
Doms are more pigeon holed than Tanks in Modern CoV. At least Tanks got a nod to doing damage with more AoE. Doms were 'fixed' with a revamp of Domination and never really recovered. Before you could Nitro a Dom with PermaDom. Now, meh. You should still do it, but the payoff....just not what it was. Most crap dies before a Dom finishes locking them down. The stuff that doesnt tends to ignore Holds. In short to give Dom players more options we just need more Blaster sets. Because Doms are second class citizens at best. -
I have seen some recent questioning of my Elec/Temp all ranged build. Really shit talking Elec basically. I do not love Elec. The animations are spot on but I dont have Elec power characters in my head and have to bend my mind to fit concepts. Give me a Dark/Dark Ranged Blaster and I will (mostly) go away. I have seen quite a few posts talk about the Elec penalty. Which I think most are referring to the mostly nonexistent secondary effects. But I have seen smack talk about Elec damage as well. Is it really that bad. I look at Mids. Elec T9 Nuke does same area and damage as other ball nukes. I do the aim+buildup+T9 and +4/x8 mobs disappear a lot of the time in farms (hoverblasting Nukes on a farm is gold folks....) In the modern game teams do so much damage secondary effects....they never really affect anything. If the mobs are gone how effective is Dark's to hit debuff? THEY ARE DEAD. (I really want ranged Dark, but lets get real...)

I PL'd a Beam/energy to 20 and looked at it last night. To me it is complete garbage. The animationm are killing me. He drops his rifle any time he uses any boost from Energy Manipulation (all the time) I may try Beam/Devices But I think I will try Ice/Temp first

Ranged Damage Dealer!!! Suggestions / Feedback / Heckling
Snarky replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
I have tried it a few times. Ice/Time Ice/Ice baby! I may try it again. I had real good luck with Elec/Time. I may tray Ice/Energy for the range and effect boost. My biggest issue with Ice (besides it not being my true love Dark) is that it is location AoE. I never figure out / coded a hot button to turn it into targeted AoE either. Sigh. I think this will be my next project though. I briefly tried Beam/Energy last night ( PL'd to 20 and looked. It is CONSTANT redraw....every time I use any of the 4 boosts from Energy the rifle disaapears and the poor little blaster looks like he is being electroshocked)
