  1. Yep, Ice is one of the best aoe dps only on corrupter due to scourge ticks. Water and DP both overtake it on sentinels.
  2. I am confused... why exactly is it okay for stalker comparisons to add in the pools that give snipes in a favored position to those sets that gain an advantage from them, but it's not okay for sentinels to compare with pools that are greatly influenced by the primary choice as well? I mean, the reality is that psionic is one of the best epics for sentinels that can exploit them, and the other epics mostly suck, which actually adds in to the comparison. I took the favored pool on my favorite BR sentinel, even though it's not the best choice for BR specifically, simply because I had free slots and the other pools suck. Do you simply hate sentinels and despise anyone that dares suggest that there are better builds that let them compare favorably to other AT's?
  3. I think I got the crap animations confused... Will Dom is the one that seems to take a lifetime to actually get to a target, although mental blast is slower than crap, too. My only concern about losing mental blast is also losing offensive opportunity. I mean, regen... defensive is hardly useful. I do like the idea of losing the extra slots in pain, though... yeah, I lose some set bonuses, but I can shift those slots around to proc a few things and crank my damage up at least 40%.
  4. To be fair, I am a fan of David Tennant, but that's mostly because I really enjoyed his acting in Good Omens. But you always love the doctor you started with, and for us Gen-Xers, it will always be the Bakernater. The thing is... Christopher Eccleston had HUGE potential. I was REALLY enjoying his turn at Doc, but he was utterly short-lived, as, if he had lasted, he might have beaten all the rest of the doctors, simply because of how UNLIKE the other doctors he really was. I stopped watching, forever, when they dragged Jodie in... Not because I had a problem with a female doctor (it sorta made sense) but they turned the whole show into a neverending social justice sermon. I didn't mind the occasional flashes of "Look what happens when a civilization is bigoted" bits in the earlier shows, but it got sickeningly over-the-top with Peter Capaldi, and then Jodie just took it two steps further. But even though I consider Tom Baker the epitome, Tennant WAS the doctor who starred in "Blink" whioch is quite possibly the greatest single episode of doctor who... and one of the greatest episodes of Any science fiction show ever.
  5. I was thinking of adding an 'end game' build, but... that varies hugely by playstyle. This one will work just fine on a +4 ITF or most DA missions, and with stealthing lowbie chains for merits, should get you into a sweet financial position without having to rely too much on AH games or farming toons. Some of the sets can be swapped directly out for purples, but you might want to consider winter sets when you can afford them... most of them are packed with resistance and defense buffs, more than just fire/cold, and could really elevate your build. But, to be fair, I have NEVER been a fan of flight on a brute. It just doesn't mesh that well with melee-centric, and the slight defense buff plus lotg mule slot from Combat Jumping are a definite boon for melee players. . Although I HAVE been growing fond of playing with experimentation's speed of sound... superspeed, plus Jaunt, takes care of vertical problems and really feels like 'zipping into a new position' like a speedster. Sweeping cross is great on a level 30 StJ, but at 50 it just sucks out combo points. Similarly, initial strike is easily replaced by shin breaker as a combo builder.... to be fair, though, it does suffer from a lack of attacks at REALLY low exemplar levels... I will usually slot an accuracy into boxing and keep sands of mu available if I go REALLY low (below 20) or you could do some rearranging of powers to give you more lower level options. Resurgence just feels like a wasted power, sorry. But higher level you might want to find a way to slide in strength of will... but it's recharge sucks, which I why I skipped it. Invisibility is simply an LOTG mule. If you want, you can drop a stealth in your sprint and that, plus concealment, makes a fine exemplar tool. replacing it with something more useful might work. You could even replace the force of will pool with leadership and get more oomf, but it might slow down smashing your way through end-of-mission fights or hard targets. But brutes have lots of ways they can go 🙂 good luck.
  6. Rad is kinda the penultimate tanker right now. MA? Meh. just about anything works fine with Rad.
  7. Tom Baker is the only doctor.
  8. Well, I have a level 38 'concept' build that I am struggling with, psi/regen, named "Gorgeous", who is a rotting hulk created as one of his first bodies by Doc Vahzilok, and eventually replaced as a holder for a random brain. The Random Brain actually turned out to be gifted much like the clock king, so, since the body was mostly unkillable and the brain was clock kinglike, I settled (almost a year ago) On a Psi-regen sentinel and have revisited it every couple of months to try to make it work. the...incredible slowness of Psi almost always makes me throw up my hands in despair... especially when I managed to kill a mob with TK blast while waiting for Psionic strike to actually travel to the target. Well, this is the crap I have so far for a build... is it recoverable or should I just give it up and rebuild as a bio?
  9. You know, except that procs, epics, and attack rotations are an important part of the game. And direct determiners of actual in-game performance rather than some magical, nonexistent, even keel model. And you wonder why economists are always wrong.
  10. Selling you on earth/earth when you have a thousand character slots is a bit like selling you on the idea of drinking water.... It sells itself.
  11. As much as I appreciate the VERY rough sheet, it still makes me want to beg @oldskool for a Psi/regen build sans fly 🙂
  12. ea's s/l defense and Parry's lethal stack just fine. and frankly, once you build up decent levels of defense with IO's, Parry will stack melee to cap as well fairly easily, although it's low damage means you won't stack it that often unless you are fighting a hard target... but you don't really NEED it for fighting anything but hard targets anyway. 27% s/l defense seems to be the easiest thing to achieve on /ea without making any cuts elsewhere, but if you are willing to compromise just a little you can get it to 35% easy... so when you are doing DA content, a single parry will take you to the lethal and melee insarnate cap against all those...lethal and melee using enemies. Although, to be fair, the missions where you fight Banished Pantheon are always challenging for /ea. SR/Shield do not pair any better with BS, only bio does on a stalker. Lots of people love the MATH behind BS/shield, gut seriously, how often do you think a stalker wades into 10 targets just to get a slight damage bonus? They'd much rather fight an elite boss than 10 minions. And parry gives so MUCH defense that with a couple of applications and decent slotting you can cap your lethal/melee defense starting from ZERO... That's one of the reasons it works so well on the ITF, because it can cancel out the massive debuffs that cause cascade failure from massed cimeroran lethal attacks.

    Stone Melee / ?

My sm/ea is only level 43, I haven't finished up her build yet, but I will post it in a few days when I do.

    Stone Melee / ?

Energy Aura! Honestly Stone has a lot of excess mitigation, and is fairly heavy endurance-wise. Except for energy cloak, EA doesn't screw with the way your costume looks. EP helps prevent -recharge, which can truly help stone melee, as well as a recharge bonus from Entropic Aura. Last but not least, it gets some psionic defense from power shield and end discount from energise, decent resistance to the most common damage types, and kinda blows off sapper/carnie drains above and beyond the fact that they almost never actually connect, and with defense debuff resistance and damage resistance cascade failure is a non-issue. Stone is one of those sets that meshes beautifully and synergistically with EA. It's not stone armor, but what is? SM/EA is, however, almost as Strong and Pretty as WM/EA.
  15. Kin/EA is Pretty/Pretty. Too bad there's no strong in there.
  16. Because on every other AT, especially Illusion control, Traps is the premier, brutal, and terrifying God of damage and defense. Even on a mastermind poison trap, shield drone, acid mortar carry the whole set. I just didn't expect that on Masterminds poison traps, shield drone, and acid mortar were the only things worth taking. I guess, on the plus side, at least there's LOTS of room to take LOTG mules, presence, and leadership.
  17. @Radeon: It really depends upon how many other resources you have available... with less than 10 million and a base full of crappy yellow sets, or 100 merits, I can use converters to create a quite nice build that only uses 3 PVP enhancements, no very rares, but, of course, your ATO's take first priority. ATO's are a VERY big deal for most AT's... some AT's can only really get use out of one set or even simply the proc from the second set(brutes), some AT's can split one of their sets to get way better bonuses from 3 of each in two different powers(stalkers), and some sets just suck so much on the second set that there's no point to taking them at all (controllers, doms, tankers) except to know you have both sets of ATO's. If you are MISSING the ato's though, 90 million is a hugely crap place to start. Not impossible, but definitely a priority to get at least 1 set fully catalyzed, and a second set if it doesn't suck. As far as your build is concerned, There are WAY better things to take then fly, Unless it is hugely essential to your concept... I would put it together a little more like this for a truly cheap build self-resources build: A few notes: This is a 'work your way up' build, not a final level 50 builds. it has early stealth instead of early fly because that will allow you to stealth some exemplared chains for upwards of 100 merits an hour... You will NEED that in order to get the winter and purples that a willpower really needs to become an undestroyable thing. Right now ALL your defenses except psi are within spitting distance of softcap. Bring some purples if you want. While I agree 60 HP/sec is insanely high, you seem to have forgotten you are a BRUTE, Not a tank... with you beating on and aoe'ing stuff, no fight should ever last so long with a group large enough to go over 50some hp/sec to overtake your 2000 hp. You are also not a 'pure defense' class, so you don't need 2500 hp in order to pad defense fails...your extremely high healing covers those fails. Third- focused accuracy? ugh. worst power in the game. physical perfection? superior perfection? Ummm... again, not a tank. And you are willpower, with some of the best regen and end management already. unneeded. what you NEED is something to screw your enemies as fast as possible, and get out of the fight and healing as you run towards the next group. Pyre mastery does this... fire blast is both a nice mule for defense and a good puller/extra 200 damage every 2+seconds. weaken resolve will you give you about -30 resistance to a single hard target while melt armor screws up EVERYONE. And fireball? That will give you an extra 150 damage every 12 seconds with a HUGE radius for a brute. Once you build up merits/influence, you can start working towards a better build, but this is pretty good for getting you into position for doing that. Just remember to buy jet packs from the P2W vendor and you are golden.
  18. The only Tanker a Blaster cannot rip aggro away from is an Icer. The first power I buy from the P2W vendor on a blaster is a self-rez. I figure, if I don't faceplant at least once a mission, I am playing WAY too conservatively and letting my team down. Sentinels, though, always feel more like a stalker... If it takes more than a minute or two to take down an AV, I have let my team down.
  19. One does not need to inspect datamining and actual player experiences when inventing imaginary statistics based off of inaccurate Mid's numbers and imaginary perfect inspiration loadouts, spawn composition, spawn spacing, and artificial lack of resistances or effective abilities to fight, debuff, and use non-attack abilties in order to draw the conclusion the insinuation that someone has no fecking clue is absolutely and testably valid. Of course, testing utterly misleading, ignorant, and false data is FAR too demanding a task for self-appointed 'authority figures' to soil their hands and reputation with. After all, SL/farm numbers, DA mission clear speeds, and ITF runs have to be mistaken when they point to the reality that such 'authorities' are simply blowing smoke out of their butts trying to look smart and snarky. But please, keep projecting 'theorycrafting' on those who disagree with your...theorycrafting. It's hilarious.
  20. lut farm is a fire or s/l farm that is 'toned down' by disallowing boss spawns in your settings, but is maxxed out for difficulty (4/8) bosses have +5% to hit and damage over luts, which, when stacked with +4 difficulty, cut defenses in half... Thus, a lut farm dramatically decreases incoming damage and they die (;owering active enemies) at a NUCH higher rate, as well as being vulnerable to blaster-level mitigation like ice patch . Yes, you only get a quarter of the inf or veteran experience from luts as bosses, but since you can rip through them in a third of the time, it generally balances out with boss farming for AT's with LOTS of aoe but low defenses, like blasters, with much higher safety.
  21. So basically people are stating that instead of being a generalist, They want sentinels to be capable of doing something for a team no one else can do better. I understand and feel for that, but it just doesn't hold water ever since AT proliferation. AND it ignores the fact that Sentinels, ideally, would have been considered a VEAT... and their balance is VERY much like a veat. Pre AT proliferation, blue side, Tankers were the best at taking damage. Scrappers were the best at dealing damage safely, controllers were the best at locking down spawns, Defenders were the best at buffing and debuffing, blasters were the best at dealing damage at all ranges. Warshades were the best at filling the holes in a team, and peacebringers were the best at reinforcing what the team does best. A sentinel would have EASILY slid into a veat role, halfway between PB's and warshades, of generally both reinforcing gaps slightly and helping strengths slightly. After you filled the five to seven other slots, sentinel is the eighth AT... the perfect compliment to all the other roles in a team, able to freely slip from role to role as the team progressed... sometimes being massive dps, sometimes off-tanking, sometimes debuffing, but generally fluidly sliding from role to role as the mission continued. Not locked into whatever the team needs like a WS, not locked into following the team paradigm like the PB. Redside there were almost NO team roles. All AT's were dps, with a little side action of whatever flavor you wanted. DPS+control is a dom, dps+buff/debuff is a corr, single target dps and solo was a stalker, and 'weird dps plus debuffs and buffs' (sorta the role of PB's and WS blueside) were Masterminds...and safe, damage-soaking dps was a brute. Their VEAT's were all about bringing a little more organization and flexibility to the DPS, with forts and widows playing buffers/stalker and buffer/dom, while huntsmen/banes and aoe/pet spiders were debuff/corrupter/stalkers or debuff/brute/MM's. Masterminds, in a very real way, already filled the hole in between the VEAT's, leaving sentinels with no role. So it comes down to a problem of perception again. AT propagation wrecked the game, but is so weird it's hard to point a finger at what part of it ruined it, and then sentinels were dragged in and dropped right in the middle of a battle between the AT's for useful roles that was never supposed to happen until level 50 by the original game separation concept. So sentinels are the ones getting the finger, even though there is absolutely nothing wrong with them as originally conceptualized. I am getting the feeling that this poll is pretty much irrelevant.
  22. Respectfully, anything a character is CAPABLE OF is definitely a data point. if someone does it, and has evidence of doing it, that is a big fat data point that absolutely must be taken into consideration when evaluating the set. If Santa clause flew through Times Square on a flying sleigh pulled by reindeer, that would absolutely be a data point for Santa Clause' existence... it doesn't matter if it was a one-time occurence. The fact is, he did it. He PROVED a fire/bio sent is entirely capable of doing one of the HARDEST challenges in the game. Many other AT's cannot do this. My BR/SR did the same thing, with only 1 death and a much better time, but I did not take meal or smoke breaks. That means there are TWO valid data points for sentinels with entirely different builds tackling a solo challenge that is one of the hardest in the game. There are other people who have done the same, and even tackled challenges that are INSANE by our terms, like Nihilli. he does challenges that are IMPOSSIBLE for melees and most other range characters to do, like soloing a max difficulty STF. He does things with his sentinel that even Illusion controllers cannot touch, and they are the most OP solo build in the game. Please, please never use the term 'data point' again. You are misusing it as badly as a teenaged prom queen uses the term 'literally'.
  23. me, I balance builds around a 100 million 'price point', and two full sets of ato's, since that is easy enough for just about any character to do. two weeks of playing and you have enough 'dropped' catalysts to catalyze your sets. also around having your alpha at rank 3 and no other incarnates, since that is pretty much the minimmum to unloack 'endgame' content. Winter and purple sets are unneccessary, but If you don't get at LEAST 300-500 merits by level 50, you took shortcuts or PL'ed, and your 'experience' is irrelevant to the actual value of a set levelling up. That provides a MUCH closer idea of what a build is actually capable of... your price point? It's so low as to have almost no bearing whatsoever on the reality of the game.. It's every bit as bad as using pylon tests or fire farms to decide how effective a character is in Itrials. You can ABSOLUTELY Balance PARTS of the game around "max level + levelshift + "most optimum MLG pro gamer random latin phrase 700 procs and a taco" build #584". Hell, That sort of balance for endgame content is exactly what Made WOW so popular. I am glad CoH does not require that sort of thing for levelling, but people do 'weird and crazy' crap all the time for fun, and the ability to do that sort of thing is ABSOLUETLY a metric of a set or AT's value. Not the sole metric, but certainly a valuable one, especially for endgame builds.
