that'd be great but I'd get tired of having to cancel TPs from people trying to get me to run a tf while i'm on a machine that's just gotta be due.

This is where the "teen" rating kind of limited what could be in the game on Live. Oh course NOW we could have Prostitutes on the street outside the Casino, Buxom Showgirls strutting around half naked...um ...nevermind....I've already seen that a few times.

I think actually that Craps would be the easier gambling staple since we already have a lot of the animations created in the "roll dice" emote, would just need the Casino interior with the Craps table and a way to score the game and place bets.

Tart and Vixen already exist in Port Oakes.  They have since at /least/ Issue 8; probably since City of Villains release, even, but I didn't notice them until around the time of Issue 8'ish.

Proving once again that red side >>> blue side. 😉

Of course, I didn't realize that wives of Marcones also exist in Port Oakes until Homecoming.  Mainly since I never bothered with the northern coast of that zone before.

But, back on original topic; is they can't or don't want to add full-blown in-game gambling . . . how about giving us the tools to make our own gambling?

> Expand the dice roll slash commands.

> Add a multi-user trade interface, with a "master" role for the dealer/house, who can determine which trade members get the payout.

> Make Rock-Paper-Scissors in to a 5-"weapon" version instead (like:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_paper_scissors#Additional_weapons , but more City of Heroes/Villains'y with "weapons" like different elements or different factions "Arachnos beats Longbow and Legacy Chain, but loses to Malta and Circle of Thorns").

The only way I would ever be on board with gambling being added to CoX is if it cost nothing and awarded nothing. You drop your virtual coin in the virtual slot and pull the virtual lever and get the virtual result. Don't worry, your character always has more virtual coins to put in the virtual slots. And if you hit the jackpot, lots of virtual coins pour out in a deluge so you can virtually put more virtual coins in the virtual slot for virtual rewards. No inf' is used or awarded for doing so. Definitely no merits. (Edit: Or salvage, enhancements, inspirations, or recipes. You can already random roll those with merits and AE tickets.) You want to gamble for fun? There is no cost for doing so, have fun. (Or you can just open up your gambling game, place it on a sidescreen or a window-in-window display, and gamble that way. Just walk up to your chosen Golden Giza slot machine, and play the slots from your other game like it was the slot machine in the Golden Giza. Then you can have the satisfaction of real loss and real reward.)

Shouldn't vending machines give out snacks and drinks? Things our characters can already use freely as emotes? Just walk up to a vending machine, emote putting money in it, and then emote eating your snack or drinking your beverage. The inspirations are available from the nurses and affect how our characters fight. That makes them medication (edit: that you can also buy from any contact...), not snacks or drinks.

I guess I had a dumb idea.

Those food emotes can be accessed now....so no need to make that kinda change.

I have no idea where in the mission a nurse is?

is there a specific spot in the warehouse our cave mission they are located?

Having played since issue 2 ... this was something I did not know so thank you for bring that to my attention.

The nurses are available almost immediately upon entering any hospital from the entrance. If you went to the hospital after being defeated, they are available as you pass them in the lobby before you exit the hospital. They can also be found anywhere in your base you put them.

Inspirations already drop from enemies, so unless the map has a field hospital in it, there are no nurses to buy inspirations from in the mission. And since inspirations already drop from the enemies we are fighting in the mission, it makes very little sense to have mission vending machines provide inspirations. (Unless you would be fine with mobs using said vending machines to stock up on reds, yellows, oranges, and purples that they immediately pop when they detect our characters. All at once. That they then restock on if you are defeated for when you or another super happens to arrive again. Say every mob within 3 rooms of a vending machine always has a stock of 15 reds and 5 yellows that they use for every combat, and replenish if they aren't defeated?) (Edit: Because computers process way faster than we do, even if they activate each of their 20 inspirations [for a full tray] in sequence, it will still appear near simultaneous to us.)

Inspirations drop from enemies... REALLY!?

GET OUT!

Did you read how long I have played. No.

You are talking to me like I am new to the game.

The discussion this came out of was sometimes there are not enough drops.

You missed the point of this so I will drop it.

*sigh* I was making a statement to show where I am coming from. I am not under the impression you or anyone else I see on these forums are unfamiliar with the game. And as someone who has gone through multiple missions without any inspiration or enhancement drops (especially back on Live where my record was 10 missions with no drops of any kind), I do get the premise. I just don't see the reason since we can just step out of the mission and buy more inspirations if we run across a fight we need them for. (Edit: Especially since I am unaware of other games like CoX that give stat boosts from vending machines. You typically only run into something like that in things like the Fallout series of games where everything is insanely more valuable and rare.)

I don't see why they couldn't function like your typical low-tier inspiration vendor.  That being said, trying to retroactively go back and code that into all of them might be more trouble than it's worth.  We already have the "inner inspiration" temp power you can get that kind of does this, and it works anywhere...

Enabling player gambling at the Golden Giza.... because where else would a hero or villain in full costume spend their time except gambling the day away while there are crimes to either commit or stop, and ambitions of either a heroic or villainous nature to fulfill. When if you really want a gambling experience, even in the game, you can just take your character up to a slot machine and alt-tab to your preferred slot machine game online or on your PC to get the same effect without having to add a whole new game (most likely in different iterations or there will be those that will complain that all the slots in the casino are the same) to our current game.

Just add a generic "pull the handle" animation, both with or without the slot machine there, (like how the laptop emote spawns said laptop out of nowhere), then add generic "woohoo I won" and "darnit I lost" emotes, and you're set.  Fallout 76 added a slot machine a while back, then a bunch more in their Atlantic City update, and they pretty much go unused for all the effort they put into them...

Could ask for a new day job badge.

GAMBLER

(Spawns a slot machine at your location that you use once each time you use the emote. You lose 100 inf' each time you use it. Has a 1% chance of awarding 1,000 inf' each time used. Has a 0.01% chance of awarding 100,000 inf' each time used.)

Edit again: For clarification, no, I am not being serious.

Ok, I guess it's time we have this discussion again.

Homecoming's servers are in the U.S. In the U.S. gambling is mostly illegal. There are certain exceptions and licenses that are available in certain places, and for specific entities. And yes, these laws apply to online gambling as well. This means that it's highly likely that Homecoming wouldn't be able to secure a license and, if they did, it would be so expensive that Homecoming also certain couldn't afford it.

And because the last time we had this discussion people refused to believe me when I said that gambling is mostly illegal in the U.S. Here's proof:

Former Police Chief Willie Lovett spent 7.5 years in Federal prison for being involved in gambling without a license.

Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.

Not REAL gambling...  virtual gambling.  Fake currency for buy in and awards shouldn't violate the law any more so than using enhancement converters to try to get something better by playing again and again.

And with all the effort it would take to add a virtual gambling game to the game, why not just load up your preferred virtual gambling game and alt-tab to it when you go to gamble in the Giza?
