I'll add two votes for William's Square.  One for here, and the other for being the song leading off my CoH website since Dec. 2012.

I find it peaceful and somehow somber and hopeful at the same time.  The first time I heard it, I felt, "Yes!  This is a place of heroes."

That's a good one, too. Red-side it's also used as Aeon City's music, IIRC.

Taker of screenshots. Player of creepy Oranbegans and Rularuu bird-things.

So many good tracks, but I definitely have a few where I'll turn up the volume as I pass through the area.

Brickstown, The Crescent: https://archive.paragonwiki.com/w/images//5/5d/Brickstown_TheCrescent.ogg So smooth. So jazzy.

Recluse Victory, Sector 1: https://archive.paragonwiki.com/w/images//a/a9/J10_faded.ogg  PERFECT music for exiting the hero base.

Galaxy City, Nebula District:  https://archive.paragonwiki.com/w/images//6/6f/GalaxyCity_NebulaDistrict.ogg BIG nostalgia.

Crey's Folley, Carnival Town: https://archive.paragonwiki.com/w/images//0/0d/CreysFolly_CarnivalTown.ogg Remember when you first found carnival town?

Siren's Call, Randalls Ruins: https://archive.paragonwiki.com/w/images//9/91/SirensCall_RandallsRuins.ogg  Flying through the ruins while keeping an eye out for Stalkers? The music just works.

CoH/V definitely has good music, problem is it's all short tracks that don't loop, so I end up with my own music playing most of the time. As such, other than Atlas Park, I can't associate any tracks with any area.

Brickstown: The Crescent. When I first started playing on HC last year and eventually heard that music, I had a grin from ear to ear. Funny how just a quick snippet of music can be so welcome.

Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute

Alts galore. So...soooo many alts.

Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior

For me it's the Atlas music. Take me right back to 2004 everytime.

I'd probably recognize a lot of the tracks if they'd be played somewhere, but usually couldn't say which zone/area they are associated with. Which is odd, since i usually value good soundtrack way above good graphics.

That laid back, bluesy groove in Brickstown that kicks in southeast of the monorail station.

'The Crescent' is the name of it.

That's the one I was going to say, yeah.  It's very short, and it only plays in that one section in the entire game, but it's still my favorite.

So, uh . . . does anyone know where to track down the old music composer(s)?   I would rather like to hear some of their other, non-City work.  Get a feel for if they're someone who might take some commission work . . .

I believe most of the pre-CoV stuff was open sourced.

Discount Heroes SG:

Frostbiter - Ice/Ice Blaster

Throneblade - Broadsword/Dark Armor Brute

Silver Mantra - Martial Arts/Electric Armor Scrapper

As I understand it, the sound fonts were open source, but the music was still composed by someone.  Who that someone is . . . well . . . I would very much like to thank them!

And no offense to Jason Graves, as they are very clearly a talented musical composer . . .  but Going Rogue's music just didn't "fit" with the rest of the game, in my opinion.  Something was lost in establishing that level of professional musical detail.  Something just didn't translate, and the music of Going Rogue definitely sets it apart from the rest of the game, making it almost alien.   Which . . . I guess, is appropriate, all things considered.

@ImpousVileTerror

According to the credits in the manual (circa Good Versus Evil Edition)

Cryptic Studios Sound & Music Department

Additional Sound & Music

And beyond Cryptic:

Going Rogue:

 Paragon Studios

  • Adam Kay (Listed as Sound Engineer. Can't find any solid info about them.)

As far as I'm aware Michael Henry composed City of Heroes. Joe Lyford, Kevin Manthei & Kevin Riepl composed CoV. Jason Graves composed Going Rogue. No idea if Adam Kay was a composer.
