Darkir's scrappy dom

Ok, so I've been trying to figure out how to make a really tanky melee dominator with good AoE dmg so that it can do missions at +4x8 solo. Even with max def and res to s/l it can be difficult to survive, mainly because we don't have a lot of reliable heals and I can keep mobs controlled in AoE, but then my dmg goes down significantly. In order to address that I figured I'd try to simply keep everything around me confused/falling down/slowed and so I rolled an ice/savage/psy dominator on the test server. I can absolutely do +4x8 with this and live in the s/l comic con map. It has good AoE and ST, without hard controls, but it does keep things confused a lot. I think I'll roll this on homecoming and see how it progresses through the TFs and trials.

The biggest draw for me is the two confusing toggles that allow me to continue to dps without stopping to cast control powers, but originally this build was mostly just to see what two confuse toggles together can do. Turns out, quite a lot with domination running, +4 bosses get confused pretty regularly and you get to create chaos all around you. Plus none of them can escape the two major slow patches (one toggle, one cast). On top of that you have two oh shit buttons just in case things get bad and flash freeze doubles as a minor dmg buff. Permadom, max s/l res/ softcapped melee/ranged, good recharge, and lots and lots of non-casting confusion.

Love your builds, trying this one now. Lvl 39 so far - end is an issue, but it's pretty fun. What have you slotted in Feral Charge? It looks like Hecatomb, but Pines isn't showing that as an option for slotting for me.

Ive been levelling this exact combo with the same intent! Sort of a wendigo theme.

I've done fire/sav, dark/sav, and plant/sav all into the mid 40s for perma dom and I think the ice/sav is the best for someone that just wants to fight (plant is good too).

I was only able to get to 35% m/r def because procs are life for me haha. And I need call hawk!

My only issue with the combo (which is common across many doms) is I have no recourse when my controls fail. Having to run missions with AVs off doesn't sit well with me in late game.

Feral charge remains my favorite power in the game.

That makes 3 of us, heh. Mine has been 50 for a while. No great native answer to the AV problem, but I chug luck insps so it doesn't bother me.

It is great fun being able to spam savage attacks and nothing but savage attacks, with the confusion auras making enough of a mess most of the time.

Sometimes it feels as if World of Confusion is almost redundant. I've turned it off for a while because the GFX gets overbearing, and AA by itself seems like it confuses bosses often enough. But maybe I don't pay enough attention.

I like /psi for the convenience of Indomatible Will, anyway. Going AFK and not worrying about keeping up perma Dom.

Feral Charge takes melee sets like Hecatomb. Perhaps your Pines is outdated. It's hard to keep track of which version is newest.

I don't believe Domination affects either power. You're just stacking two Confuses. Arctic Air is only a 30% chance but if you've got it fully slotted up it should have an 8 sec duration with a 2 sec activation. So you have ~75% chance to have its Confuse active. With full slotting, World of Confusion will have ~75% uptime. So you're probably looking at ~56% chance to Confuse a boss (assuming you aren't hitting target caps).

Lol, that will always be the difference between our builds! I like to live, while you like damage.

Yeah, hecatomb. Update mids.

I don't know if domination is affecting the toggles. I'll login and try to see if I can test it out.

Feral charge, savage leap, and repel add so much to the playstyle of the toons. 🙂

In terms of end usage this build wasn't really intended to be run at lower levels, I really just wanted to make a super scrappy/tanky Dom that could clear hard maps with good aoe. I had failed in my previous attempt with a dark/sav (too many things to keep up making less time for scrapping)

I don't think there has ever been a better summation of how proc builds function. Almost none of my proc builds can realistically solo +4/8 outside of push over mobs.

I'm looking at your build and seriously considering going the route you have because savage assault is super fun and satisfying to use.

Savage leap is my second favorite power haha!

Plant/sav is a good contender as well because seeds gets out so fast and creepers act pretty autonomously. I really like just charging in and having the auras do their thing though. It is a very different playstyle from any other dom I've used. Thanks for sharing this build.

Domination does not affect Arctic Air except to help you keep it from detoggling when mezzed. That's not nothing, but leaves a lot to be desired IMO.

I run a private server where I modded Arctic Air to suppress rather than detoggle on mezz, and where it correctly becomes Mag 6 with a longer mezz duration when in Domination mode. Both changes IMO would be nice to be bring to Homecoming. Ice Control isn't terrible but it does feel/is less powerful than other Dominator primaries. Domination mode adds 50% to the duration of controls, so Ice Control Dominators are using a version Arctic Air that is significantly weaker than it "should" be.

I would love this change so much. I don't think the devs here give dom's much thought.

I made this.  Super fun but needs ageless to enjoy.  I already had an ice/psi/ice so I made it an ice/psi/psi instead and followed this model.  Enjoying it.

Appreciate the build and the thought put into it.

Regards,

Dave

Yeah, it's a 50 build with incarnates build for sure. Do you find with drain psyche you can maintain end better without ageless?

Honestly a lot of Squishies toggles need the surpress ahead of detoggle pass. Nature gets totally fecked over by it (Entangling, Lifegiving Spores AND Spore cloud all drop if you get mezzed).

And a fair chunk of Domis need this sort of change to Domination too. Generally it involves Pseudopets, which is fair enough from a "tricky to do" point of view. But Arctic Air doesn't fall into that category at all, just seems like Ice has been forgotten about.

But seriously... this would be really great for a lot of AT's. Re-toggling auras after being Mez'd is such a PITA, it just feels bad.

How difficult (and/or time consuming) was it toggle suppression to implement for AA?

I had happened to start an Ice/Sav Dom so I respecced and I'm giving this a whirl, but I don't think it's for me.  The main issue is I think that I felt like I was trying to run a particularly squishy Scrapper or Stalker but without the benefits of being a Stalker or a Scrapper, so that I was missing out on the benefits of actually being a Dom.  Still an interesting build though!

Sigh, now I guess I need to try and plot one to fit my playstyle myself.  I make builds like Bender makes money - I prefer to steal them and complain when I have to do something.

I've been lurking around trying to find a cool Dom build to make.  I think I will try the Ice/Psi/Psi deal with the confuse auras.  My Main is Sav/Inv scrapper so I don't want to make another savage melee toon essentially.  I'll try more later on but I'm having trouble translating your build changing out the /Sav with /Psi and getting the defense/resist as high.  Care to take a stab at it if you've got a minute?

This build really doesn't come online until you get the leap at 38 and then it becomes much better when you get world of confusion. That is a ton of levels to wait though and so I would suggest just leveling as a normal ice Dom with all the controlly goodness. Then respec once you are 38.

ok, so this based on my preferences. I like to be in the thick of things, but without feral leap to get to mobs that are running I'd rather have the ranged attacks. I also hate positioning myself for cones, in general, I find it faster to take attacks that I can just keep firing. Anyway, try flavoring this to your own taste:

This build really doesn't come online until you get the leap at 38 and then it becomes much better when you get world of confusion. That is a ton of levels to wait though and so I would suggest just leveling as a normal ice Dom with all the controlly goodness. Then respec once you are 38.

Well, he's not too far from that, I suppose I could give it a shot as I don't have a good alternative in sight yet.  We'll see.  😃

I'd just like to say 'thank you Darkir'. I created a dom to a very slight variation of yours and it's the first dom that I've actually enjoyed.  I kept making them...trying to get one that feels 'super', but they always felt weak and ineffective. Sure they could control the bad guys, but who needs to control them when you can ignore them even as a blaster and just smash away.. and I seem to need to hit many times as a dom than I do as a scrapper or blaster. (that might be just perception... not sure). Without a nuke (for me) my doms feels so much less powerful than a blaster or even a sentinel.

This one though is a ton of fun. Charge in, and there is so much confusion. More even than my attempts at plant (just because grouping makes it awkward for plant sometime... if they bad guys are scattered). I don't worry about other controls, not even ice patch (unless fighting confuse resistant enemies) and the they tear into each other. The tougher the bad guys, the more effective the confuse seems to be.  I don't normally run solo, but I wanted to see what this was like, and doing PI missions (even arachnos) at +3/x8 was a pleasure.  I thought I would miss unkindness and Jack Frost, but I seem to be too busy clawing at the bad guys to worry about it

Endurance is still an issue (I don't have ageless... and the toggles...). Before I had an alpha slot, if I put all the toggles on, the cost is more than the recovery! But the perma dom is great for that...

I'm wondering what other dom I could try now that feels as 'super'.

I recommend any flavor of gravity with enflame! You've probably seen the threads lately.

My personal flavor is grav/energy, but other secondaries would work great.

Teleporting a flaming singularity that Hoovers everything up into a tight ball is the most powerful I have felt on a character in a while.

I do love the idea of stacking passive confuses too! I may tangle with my own iteration of this build

My only other Dom is this, and I built her before Enflame became good, and she still feels like one of the more powerful characters I've ever tooled around with, so that has my vote as well.  I really need to dig out a good Enflame build for her and give that a spin I guess.

A bit late to the thread,..

Have u looked at an ICE/EARTH,..

in EARTH u get 2pbaoe's and aoe toggle with an immob. 2 realy good melee attack. a powerbuild up that does enhance confuse( i belive),..abd more

pluse u can recolor the earth to crystal with a white or light blue color scheme to match ICE,..it realy is a good melee dom.
