I don't know why I never thought of this combo, but I think I'm gonna roll him up today.

Capped resists to all but toxic,  decent defenses, 2 heals, and 2 end recoveries. Seems like it would be like the energizer bunny...just keep going and going and going and...

Who's played this combo and what was your experience?

I debated on electric/stone melee since I personally have never played stone melee. But having that extra heal and end recovery sounds so nice!

Posted

It does sound very strong on paper. I think Rad/Dark would be similar, and the heal/absorb on rad is arguably a bit better and you've got multiple end recovery methods. No damage aura with that though, so that'd be the big point in Elec/Dark's favor, but Ground Zero proc bombed might math out to higher damage over time?

Just started on a Shield/Dark and it's tough to imagine that any set wouldn't greatly benefit from Dark Melee's utility.

I say go for it! I'm betting there's some decent power effect synergy possible with Soul Noir colors and Electric Armor's colorings.

I've played out capped-out Elec/Elec.
And "Energizer Bunny" is just the term I'd use.
Basically look on whatever Defense you slather on as expendable,
The ridiculous Resist numbers make up for it.

I had one on live and it was fun, with the changes to DM, here on HC it should be insane to play. As Hyper said, Elect is easy to cap and you can even get tolerable Toxic Resist out of it (granted, you'll be way over cap in other areas... so you'll need to decide where to put your slots). That said, even with a few (3) slots in Power Sink you can do a decent job sapping (especially if you add an End Mod to Electric Field). DM's heal will also help offset the slow recharge time of Elect's Heal, and Lightning Reflexes will help recharge all of DM's powers in general. Overall, a very good/complimentary pairing... Damn, now I'm going to have to see if I've got one here or not... So many Tanker combos, so little time...

Nothing warms your opponent like Fiery Melee.

@Hyperstrike I have been meaning to thank you for posting this build somewhere else and now I have the chance, so thank you. It's pretty and strong in all the best ways. Energizer bunny doesn't do it justice, he is about lvl 40 or so as I took a break for alt-itis reasons but all the inf i make goes to email to complete his build. of course, now I am thinking about dark so the alt train thunders on...

Since when has 90% Resist to Tox and Psi been "Tolerable"?

I'd call it effing great!

I didn't look at your build, on mine it's around 70% I think. When I get the chance I'll have to see what you did.

With this build I was able to get everything over 90% (not like that wimpy 87.08% PSi... (j/k bud). Overall a incredibly strong build. I think I sacrificed a couple points of S/L Def, but picked up a bit more in Fire/Cold. Not sure when I'll be able to respec my toon into this build (or maybe level another), but it should be fun to play. Thanks for the framework!

Back on live I ran a DM/Elec Brute and he was stupidly tough along with having nice damage. I would imagine Elec/DM on a Tank would be tougher still.

I've been using it, I'd say its well worth taking. A targeted AoE with that big a radius (radius 9 with the tanker buff) will very consistently hit everything, the damage isn't amazing but even without procs its equal to Shadow Punch but against 10+ things at once. The occasional ability to fear a single annoying Lt, or honestly stack it and fear a boss, is just a bonus now.

It has an absolutely massive 20% -ToHit debuff, so it's a ludicrously powerful mitigation tool that effectively adds 20% defense to you on top of all your other Dark attacks (which are usually about 5%).....and on top of the resists you'd have. Except this kind of defense can't be stripped away by enemy debuffs. They just take it and have to live with it.

Basically, imagine a Claws scrapper tearing their hair out fighting one of those massive hordes of CoT ToHit debuffing, lethal resisting ghosts.....except you're the ghosts and it's hilarious.

Not that you've said otherwise but just for clarity it's worth saying that the -tohit only affects the main target not everything in the aoe.

The way they have built the new touch of fear is interesting. It is effectively two powers rolled into one. The first is a single target fear and -tohit and the second is a damage over time aoe that carries no debuffs. This helps to explain some of the proc behaviour but there are still some oddities like the fact it checks melee aoe procs using no area factor against the main target.

Here's some analysis I did on the power a while back:

On tanks? Absolutely. I now run my dark melee tanks (and I have 5 of them) with only shadow maul and touch of fear for aoe and they grind through +4×8 spawns just fine. It helps if you have something like a damage aura or a proc bomb from the armor set but it's not necessary. I've recently run a sr/dark with only those two powers for aoe and it did fine.

I'm less convinced about touch of fear on other AT's though. Without the area bonus it really is a small aoe and they don't get much more damage out of it to compensate. All the recent tank and dark melee changes have combined to make the set really sing on this one AT. In fact I rate it as the best melee set available for tanks right now.

I haven't played a lot of /Dark/
And I tend to avoid "attacks" that aren't actively dealing Damage (save Taunt).

I know, I know.  It's a failing...

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

But, Touch of Fear does do damage now.  It is a Targeted Melee AoE like StJ/Spinning Strike.

Now you know why I am asking.  Touch of Fear is a nice AOE damage power now.

I have limited experience with dark melee, and spun up a Bio/dark since I wanted to try bio/ as well. I understand bio/ gets crushed by debuffs, and I thought /dark might help.

He's 31 on basic IOs, leveled on TFs and street sweeping, and I can only give high marks to leveling with dark melee. Maul and ToF hit a big area, and recharge really fast, and are there for Positron. Most attacks animate fast as well. ToF seems like a no- brainer must- pick for tanks, to me.

My Bio/DM tank is almost my favorite. Bio makes Dark Consumption is skippable so it's easier to squeeze in what you need to make Bio survive better.  It's easy to cap S/L resist and get the Defenses high enough to mean something. Then just add recharge and Winters to max out your resistance to recharge debuffs and you should be golden.

Thanks for this! I'm going to have to tweak my build and maybe replace Air Sup with ToF.

Resist/ recharge/ slow resist is exactly what I was thinking of building (if I ever get there, haha). Glad to know it works out!

Out of curiosity, what is your favorite tank? I have a Fire/Claw and Inv/Rad, the latter is the most built, but unfinished.

Make sure to try out Touch of Fear. It's now an AOE, hits 10 targets. The fear is nice, the huge to hit debuff (-11% on scrapper) that lasts 20 seconds is even better. With a fast recharge and low end cost you can spam it all day long. It really helps survivability, especially on a set without any built in defense like Fire, Electric or Regen.

Tough question! Bio/DM is a hoot, but Radiation/Savage Melee is a load of fun.

Before that, Shield/Stone was my favorite for all its smash

SR/Electric Melee was a really fun concept build, but Elec felt low on damage compared to other combos. Same with Invuln/Staff - lots of fun but took a long time to defeat tough things.
