Besides Stone, What's the Most Durable Tanker Primary?

Invuln has better resists and a huge heal, lower defense debuff resistance and a psi damage hole that can be fixed with IO's, doesn't offer much in the way of offense. Slightly endurance intensive. Works very well from low levels on up.

 

Shield has better damage with AAO and Shield Charge, better defense debuff resistance, but lower overall resists and no heal.  Click mez protection is a pain in the butt but offers more DDR.  Endurance intensive, blooms a little later and really needs IO sets.

 

Invuln is "easier" overall.

I find Invuln to be slightly tougher, while Shield gives me the delightful Shield Charge and a little better DPS. I play Shield for that reason, but if my only concern was being as durable as possible without the drawbacks of playing Stone, I'd play Invuln. If you pick Invuln, put a Gaussian's Synchronized Fire Control: Chance for Build Up in Invincibility. Very worth the slot to suck less at damage.

With Invuln you get the standard Taunt sound effects, you can completely turn off the visual effects, and can use any secondary.

With Shield, if you make a female toon, the Taunt sfx change from the "Ha!" to more of a guttural scream. It can be annoying.

Also Shield limits your secondaries to the one-handed attack sets.

Invincibility does give you 2% ToHit per mob in melee range up to 10, which gives you 20% max ToHit (30% if you slot it up).   That does help with offense.

With no limit on cost and a well tailored level 50 build, Tanker's Radiation Armor can be tougher than granite.

 

Absorb with huge recharge is just awesome.

all tanks can do everything... it all depends on your team and how you start the fight.

Willpower. Whilst it needs heavy IO investment to reach it, WP's performance ceiling is higher than Stone or Invulnerability.

 

Softcapped Defence (with the fighting pool and enough set bonuses), Hardcapped Resistances, Respectible Maximum HP and bucketloads of Regeneration. Has no holes. But has absolutely nothing that adds to your damage output (unless you count the additional endurance recovery)

Rad Armor or Bio. They have a tool for anything you may need. And rad is basically dark with all the problems of dark fixed.

 

Rad is…grossly broken. I mean I’ve tanked, on a brute, the red robot while at 1hp literally, thanks to the absorb shield being perma on Rad. This is a brute, by the way. And can cap all my res except I think Cold, with Meltdown and have pretty good res without it. A tank would be disgusting with Rad. No set, imo, even remotely compares. Besides Bio.

Does Willpower do OK against a bunch of ranged enemies? Do you have to be surrounded for the stats to be good, or does it do OK when the critters are spread out?

Heightened Senses gives typed rather than positional defence, so it doesn't really care if they're ranged or melee.
Rise to the Challenge likes having at least one foe within melee range in order to increase your regeneration rate though.

Some example numbers from my old SS/WP's i24 build are below (this is with Tough and Weave active and one foe in RTTC range, but no incarnates except for the Alpha Slot) and it's pretty cheap + far from optimised by HC standards...

Take any Attack set able to raise Recharge : all the set with Knockdown can slot Force feedback chance to +recharge : Super Strenght with a build Rage / KO blow / Foot stomp / Cross punch / hand clap / Gloom / Darkest night / Dark Obliteration, for instance.

 

Build your tanker to cover the only one tiny hole in resistance : Cold.

Seek any form of recharge to have Hasten Perma and Debuff resistance to -recharge at 100%.

 

Slot your Particule shielding x6 and Radiation therapy x6 with 1 proc chance of +stam from Theft of essence + 5 Numina

Might try something with rad armor. Just dont know what or who or  or ...ah...nevermind Ill try them all I have 105830956 character slots 😄 hahaha

If you want an idea of what tankers can do when they seek a "cool and funny" way to kill time, check this thread : you will witness what tankers can do in term of balance between staying alive in a nightmare content and kicking big ass 😄

You know believe it or not there was a time many moons ago I actually knew a lot about this game

 

then I didnt play for years and got old and forgetful 😄

Being "Durable" do not mean never dying, Killing things fast is the best mitigation in the game. Imo, we cannot look at a primary without his secondary, Soft control is a key element of mitigation and keeping agro.

On top of what the Homecoming devs cook for us, HC become more and more diferent after each Page.

 

Maybe it's a good thing that you forgot all : better learn quietly what is really in game instead of believing things who changed months / years ago 🙂

I'll say it again, Fire armor/Ice melee. By level 20 you're melting whole groups and it does not need a ton of IOs to be safe because you get Ice Patch. Once you get Burn you'll be addicted.

Can +1 this build. Check it out and you won’t be disappointed. @nihiliiShield/Rad Tanker is also a one man army.
