These "personal story" things got sprinkled around at some point to flesh out a story not involving the player character. Some Dark Astoria contacts end in them I believe, as does Number 6s arc and the New Praetorians arc in Bricks. Most are indeed pretty clunky to play. It's a mixed bag for me. The Heather Townsend one felt half assed I'm particular. They could have had some ghosts representing her survivors guilt or something. Why TF is she looking at two boxes instead? Pretty much all the other DA ones are really good IMO. The Praetor Duncan one made me like her as a character quite a bit.
