It would be fun if there were a set of fairly plain, "prefab" options that could be picked when you first created a base... A Generic Tech, a Generic Arcane and maybe a Generic Modern/Mundane layout... that covered all of the standard-base-functionality stuff for people who didn't want to bother learning the ins and outs of base editing just to get some teleporters and a few storage bins.

Well, snark aside, that's what I said. Maybe all base bases should have a full array of teleporters and one each of the basic devices. Most solo or small-group players neither want nor need anything else.

It's, uh, not that hard to build such a vanilla base, though. An hour for all the basics with one "side" of transport beacons, maybe 90 minutes if you want transporters to all forty-odd(?) locations. If all that's wanted is that basic "box of tools," and not the fun etc. of building out rooms and custom spaces, a player only need to invest this hour for their entire CoX experience/duration.

Or just join any open SG and get it instantly and at no cost.

Or just note any of the transpo-base codes and get everything, in any theme imaginable, less maybe junk storage, for nothin'.

But sure, cookie cutter basic bases. Why not?

It's quick and as easy as pie...

*IF* you know how the base editor works.

If you don't, it isn't a particularly easy or obvious system to learn, especially if you aren't a forum-user or don't have a coach to get you through that learning curve.

(I've recently watched the CoyoteNephews and their mom trying to figure it out, so... yeah. Even with me there, showing them the way things worked, they gave up pretty quickly.)

Maybe not full, prefab bases, but prefabbed (slightly randomized?) rooms that you could mix and match to quickly make a basic base would be really neat.

I went with the smallest footprint for my base and have since added a few rooms.

adding the basics....crafting bench and storage, is not hard, but can be challenging for a novice. Especially once you get into sinking things or attaching to different surfaces. There are good  youtube videos to follow.

However ...

I would be down for some simple presets

Storage - a room with a vault and storage racks

Crafting - room with bench and storage racks

Travel - Transporter and waypoints setup ....however you need the full exploration badge to unlock the points.

I set aside one day where I doing except work on my base. It is Zen like for me.

Maybe with presets people may experience the same thing ..

Forums  - a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

"it will be a forum for consumers to exchange their views on medical research"

Spam Response- Spam, in the context of cybersecurity, refers to any unsolicited and often irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent over the internet.

More than just functional presets though - basic decorative stuff would be nice as well:

  • Meeting/Ops rooms (maybe a room with string between corkboards for the paranoid vigilantes)
  • Gyms/Pools/Fitness/Training
  • Libraries
  • Clubs/Restaurants

Various sizes too, wouldn't make sense for a huge base to have a tiny 2x2, personal gym, or a small vigilante's personal hideout to have this massive meeting room.

Missed opportunity?  Maybe.  Probably not though.  I remember the all-black (or worse, random colors), full-random costume days.  We've come a long way, aesthetically, and while some people may want a "scrapheap" setting for a random room (or base), it may not be the best choice for a preset.

It was playful sarcasm.  Considering the sheer amount of available components and what you can do with them, randomized sets without any form of structure would be essentially impossible to use.

I was simply considering the common sense @Greycat suggested and it made me giggle, trying to imagine what sort of complete insanity a true random base would look like (true random doesn't exist, I know).

Just try to imagine, this nightmare of dysfunctional infrastructure where my Illusion Controller (Villain) would be right at home.  Imagine the mind product of taking the Riddler, the Joker, some LSD and put them in a high speed blender.

Random.

Opportunity.  But very, very specific opportunity.

I may be remembering this wrong but isn't there a way to back up a base on your PC? If so, anyone could create a few generic, fully equipped bases, that anyone could copy and load into the base editor, which would make this a no DEV time required process. I would defer to the base building experts on this one.

You can save your base info in a demorecored file, but as far as I'm aware, Homecoming does not support importing that info back into the game, and I am unaware of any plans to change that.

That said, I'm not saying this idea's a nonstarter, it would just need a bit of work!

Honestly it would be really cool to build a base in say Auto Cad or something and assign it models/textures of game assets and import it back into game. I kinda always thought the original devs from the days of live were opening the door to that with being able to save bases externally via the demorecord command lines.
