Fallout Tv Series (Amazon Prime)

Recommended Posts

I liked it, the lore inconsistencies I expected watching trailers and the first episode wherent inconsistencies but a major and unexpected plot point.

I can't wait for season 2 since we will finally and without a doubt find out which New Vegas Ending is canon, I hope it's the House or the Indipendant Vegas Ending else everything we, the players as Courier 6, did there was worthless considering the current situation in the TV Show.

If it is the House ending seeing big TV screen Robert House again might be pretty cool

I'm pretty sure we're going to be seeing Mr. House in control of New Vegas and Caesar's Legions scattered. Three way fighting between the NRC, Mr. House, and the remnants of Caesar's Legions. I can't back that up with anything but it just feels right.

Also, damn I must be working too hard because it'll be weeks before I can get all of season one viewed. I hope everyone uses spoilers for those of us who haven't binged it already.

Currently on mobile so can’t use SPOILER frames. But up to ep 6 and it does keep getting better, more involved, with a rich backstory that doesn’t feel like you’re having stuff painfully explained to you coughRebelMooncoughsorrycoughnotsorrycough but can still turn around on a dime and surprise you.

Oh, and word of advice: nice people don’t gas people and drop them through trapdoors. Well, I do, but only double glazing salesmen and they generally have it coming.

Look out for me being generally cool, stylish and funny (delete as applicable) on Excelsior.

My wife and I watched the 1st four episodes last night and plan to watch the rest of it over the weekend.  We both enjoyed it quite a lot.  Definitely not my favorite series of all time, or anything, but I can say that it (to me, at least) does the game justice in portraying the setting pretty accurately and it's got good actors, fun action sequences, and moments of humor as well.  It's also quite gory, as one would expect from a show true to the source material.  I'm totally fine with that, but folks that haven't played the game might be a bit shocked by it.

I've watched 3 episodes

It is definitely more aimed at the Fallot 3/4 type of flavor.  I personally prefer fallout 1/2.

However, having said that, this show is good.  I am definitely looking forward to the rest.

It's miles ahead of something like Wheel of Time.

Finished it… and still don’t have access to spoiler box, so some general thoughts…

  • Playing the gung-ho hero isn’t always your best option, Max.
  • Pops was a popsicle. Didn’t see that coming. (Did anyone see Lee’s name on the freezer chest manifest?)
  • They said the line! Twice. And I’d have just gone with Walton’s take on it, but the other one did have more surprise value.
  • Don’t mess with audio nerds. We’re mean. And inventive.
  • Nice slight nod to the game ending when our heroine glimpses some of the people she’s helped.
  • I think they did everything pretty well except stick the landing, but I think they weren’t meant to…
  • …as it’s leading into S2. Amazon are a fickle bunch so it’s not guaranteed even with the extremely positive reviews and figures. But looking forward to it…
  • …so see them all down the road on the next map. Thangyallver’much.

Let’s test this out…

I was looking for Lee’s name on the Vault-Tec Vault 31 list. According to the Fallout Wiki, she wasn’t on their cryogenics inventory (unless she was under a different name: she also went by “Miss Williams”, so may have had several aliases.)

It’s quite possible she was in another cryo vault, such as a Management Vault in Vegas. (Might seem odd if she’s been organising against them. But cold fusion might come in handy later, and you know what they say about “keep your enemies closer.”

So the mystery may be answered in S2…

Just watched a little video about the series that brought me up to speed on that.

If you haven't watched Episode 8 yet, DO NOT OPEN...

Spoiler

This charming fella in the boardroom scene, where they pivot from how to make money to fun with human experimentation

...is the CEO of RobCo, aka one Robert House. And he even mentions "you could lose money running a casino, Sinclair".

Given that Hank/Kyle McLachlan is seen walking to New Vegas in the end sequence, d'you think that's our next map?

I finished the series last night. I was pleasantly surprised at the way it pulled together at the end and overall the series was excellent.

Spoiler

I wouldn't be surprised. I think Mr House would also be very, very interested in a cold fusion power plant. I guess Vault-Tec nuking the world is official canon now. Not very surprised because that makes a lot of sense given what they were selling and how the war was actually going. I'm just grateful that the people who make conex boxes into survival shelters don't make nuclear missiles.

Random thoughts on the first season:

They are going to have to explain how an actor survived 219 years as a ghoul. I know he fought in the war but those skills only get you so far. Also had a good laugh at the elixir salesmen character and the scene it led to. Will we see the BoS fighting the NRC? Maybe! Maximus turning out to be an ok guy wasn't unexpected. It's hard to get away with something like putting razor blades in peoples gear in a barracks without it being a self-correcting problem of a sort. And I guess you can't have underground vault societies without at least one turning into a nude drum circle sans the drums. Not that I'm complaining.

All in all; bring on Season 2!

I watched a video titled "Maximus has the Idiot Savant perk" and it made a lot of sense. Viewing his character in light of that playstyle really him click with me a lot more lol.

The first few episodes reminded me of "Lucky Number Slevin", where he kept getting hit in the face/nose...

Got around to watching it (Read: All at once) and while the production value is obviously high, it felt rushed in that it threw a Lot of the Lore at you at once. The Eps felt short TBH and (as expected) it made the series feel truncated. Had I never played the games, then I'd not know the difference, but there's also nothing Too negative to say about it.

I think that perhaps if you had only played Fallout 3 and 4 this series probably would really click as "Fallout"

The thing is it only feels like a slice of Fallout to me having followed it since Wasteland. Though compared to most recent adaptions of all types it's definitely better than most.

Small note: Season 2 is now “in development”.

Now in Whollyodd, that phrase doesn’t mean a damn thing, but numbers do.  The claim is it’s had 65 million unique viewers already (yes, Amazon know who you are…[creepy sting music]. They don’t share exactly what that metric means - in some contexts, someone could have watched one minute and still be counted.)

But a renewal after just 12 days and a storm of celebratory PR feels like  it’s a winner, which after the LOTR thing, is something Amazon need.

Turnaround time for this kind of high-end series is normally around 12 to 18 months - but given Nolan seems to already have an arc planned out with the writers, and opted for largely practical FX where possible (so Vault sets exist somewhere…), I think we might be meeting Mr. House in around a year.
