Can we save our chat/tab setup?

It is part of my new character setup to separate out all the chats into specific tabs

Options->Windows->Chat Settings File

There's a save and load.

On the question:

I tend to point people at the terms we signed up for and leave it at that.

If they're posting some views that are garbage IMO, I put a note on them.

If it continues, then there's a report function.

Also, /chatsave and /chatload commands if you're a command-line warrior.

/wdwload to load the window/tray positions and settings (previously saved with /wdwsave) is another thing I do on new characters.

Well said.  I tried to leave my personal politics out of my posts.  Yet if you look with a discerning eye it would not be difficult to ascertain.  Others....

While I would agree that the extreme right wing seems to present themselves this way a great deal, there's plenty of "thought policing" to go around on the other side, too. Orthodoxy is a few people believing their way is the way, for everybody. It's not relegated to the side that has the highest TV ratings. I just wish they'd stop trying to get me to despise pretty much everybody by playing into fear.*

That said, I'm in full agreement that our entertainment shouldn't be polluted by the sound of grinding axes. As already mentioned, however, we can turn channels off, and use the local control methods for incessant offenders. That would seem to be enough for this insular space.

*I just want to lock them all in a room until they either figure it out, or eat each other (or...they could come out of the rat drum Silva talked about in Skyfall).

there is such thing as mind poison.  some of it is views, sure, they differ. and some of it is just poison - only intended to harm and generate culture of harm.

to paraphrase an earlier poster; they bloody well know better.

the bigot, the fascist, the twisted to abuse - those that foster unkindess of thought and work that to belief or self definition...

theres a segment of those - at least on excelsior.

Well, it was MAGA making noise.  I don't need that here.  This is a game not a rally.

The other issue is that there is no way to tell if someone is spouting political rhetoric simply to get a rise out of people.  It's best to block/ignore, report, or simply close general chat altogether...

I assume that is what they are doing.  I am no longer interested in turning off general to deal with it.  Turning up the heat for GMs to deal with the offending person.  Ideally, a permaban.

I don't think it is up to us to "turn up the heat" - report the offender and move on.

Moderation actions aren't disclosed, but either way, that is also up to the GMs to decide.  I don't think coming across as vindictive helps anybody...

Before this thread gets locked, which I expect any time now, I just want to make 1 observation. There is, and should be, a difference between "current events" and "politics." It ought to be OK to make a comment or joke about a Chinese spy balloon floating over the US. It should not be OK to say that it's the [________}'s fault.

I one time got asked by a GM to please not advertise an MSR as "gathering at Four Seasons Total Landscaping" in RWZ because "some people are still sore about the election." The fact that ANYONE chose to have a press conference at a landscaping company they thought was a Four Seasons hotel is only political because politicians did it. If that's our threshold for what is "political" we're in trouble. I guess if Leonardo DiCaprio had a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Titanic" and say that now that it's so old he doesn't want to be in it, we can't joke about that?

Please give your thumbs down below. Bring it.

thread shouldnt be locked, a community management solves issues by confronting them.

it's rare, but theres on occassion some just awful hatespew on excelsior, often abstracted 'just a bit' so a crew enfaging in it can skirt a line, while, intendong only to harm.

i dont know if this is just an excelsior problem, but it exists.

for any given, does this intend to harm. theres a good measure, and one not at all subjective when topics get all 5th column.

Noticed a lot more political or close enough in General chat lately.  It is annoying.  What can be done about it?

report it.

It's against the Rules of Conduct.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I am tired of doing that. Why should we be forced to deal with it that way?

Making the report helps everyone.

Turning a blind eye to something that is bad for the community only encourages it.

With my limited gaming exposure over decades, the most populous servers have the most rule-breaking behavior in chats that can reach the entire server or even a zone.

The kind of people that do this are looking for attention and the more attention that they can get makes them feel better about themselves - even if it is negative attention.

The biggest servers give them the biggest audience.

"It comes with the territory". But it breaks the code of conduct so it needs to be stopped.
