I've always been under the impression that the meteors hitting Galaxy City was a recent event. NPCs ask for donations to help the refugees, and the reconnaissance officer calls in breaking news.

Turns out that's just massive government incompetence, since when you completed the Galaxy City tutorial that was (at least) a ten year jump cut when you arrive in Atlas Park.

My point here isn't "LOL. Devs wrote something silly", but that I think a level 54 hazard zone would be really cool. As suggestions to populate it with:

  • Shivans (duh)
  • Arachnos. GC is their main entry into the city.
  • Sky Raiders. The FBSA couldn't pull all their artifacts and other goodies out of the Freedom Corps HQ, so they're picking through the rubble. (also a few of my character's backstories reference them doing this and I don't want to rewrite them 🙂)
  • I think the Lost would be a neat addition since they could make their way here through the ruined sewers. They'd probably need a revamp like the other factions have gotten to be challenging opponents at this level.

As long as this has no effect on the echo version of the zone, I'm on board. It would be fun to fight high level stuff in what was once the starter zone!

I see what you're saying and I'm puzzled by the description you posted.  The original game shut down in November 2012.  So it should have been at most slightly more than a 1 year gap.  There's been much discussion in the past on these forums about where Homecoming is in the timeline.  The general consensus (beyond "timeless") is that lore-wise, we're only months out from the shuttering point of the original game.  Perhaps the Homecoming development team has made an official ruling on the timeline and I didn't get the memo.

Even so, time is wonky in the game.  For every character it is really about the individual story, so although a level 50 went through the Skul hunt events of Eagle Eye's missions years ago, from a level 10's perspective, they are new and fresh events.

I do think it is time to address hazard zones altogether.  The standing one's have felt static and normal, not hazardous for some time (uh, that is, real world time.  This is giving me a headache.) But yes, I do feel that a Galaxy City hazard zone, especially for high level, would be appropriate.

Or extreme level versions of the enemies from the tutorial!

It's right there in the screenshot from the plaque. "...the city gates being shut for over a decade now." No wiggle room there. The plaque is in Perez Park right by the SG portal if you want to read it yourself.

I'm well aware of what otherwise is the game's wonky timeline otherwise. I've taken part in said discussions on the discord to flesh out backstories and such.

PvP force flagged on and high level mobs, yes.

Hmm, suppose instead you were to see the Arenas used properly, like an actual sports league, with individual events and viewerships and special drops for those who participate?  An in-world thing where NPCs chat about who won the big fight just now/last week?

Because Galaxy City as PVP is not going to revive PVP. Ever. And frankly, Bloody Bay and Warburg should be made PVE and get it over with.

Should probably go check Piecemeals solo arc for why this is probably not the direction HC will go with GC.   (Or maybe they will, I don't know)

But yes, timeline is wonky.    When you arrive from the tutorial from GC, the meteors just happened.    Similar to Twinshot & (insert redside version) happening not long after.

Then you level up, things happen, but depending on your path, some stuff happens before others.   I blame Ouro.

Probably would have been if the game didn’t get shut down and we weren’t running on a skeleton team of volunteers. Though personally i think a trial instance could work, maybe? Tricky part is that many of those ruined galaxy city maps actually have, to my knowledge, nothing in common with actual Galaxy City zone map. In the Shining Stars/Hearts of Darkness arcs, if you look beyond the map forcefield you can also see the city is pretty intact which I guess is just live dev oversight.

Definitely a huge project for a volunteer dev team that has other stuff going on. Even stitching together parts of Boomtown, the GC tutorial and other destroyed zone would be a big undertaking.

it'd be AMAZING to invade other player instances.  everyone loves it in elden ring / souls

I don't know anything about Elden Ring games, but I do know that the few times I've had the game glitch and bring other teams into my mission, I most definitely did not love it. And I'm relatively sure they didn't either seeing as I had already cleared most of the map each time.

As much as I love elden ring, as much as I love group player versus player especially battlefields such as in Dark age of Camelot and ESO back in the day, I would not love someone else invading my mission or task force.

It's not a bad idea, but you got to know when to play the right song for the right crowd. This is not the right crowd.

The map created for the Piecemeal Personal Story is more or less the current state of Galaxy City. It is not like what's featured in the tutorial or OGT arcs, but built from that OGT map.

There comes a time in which all stories must come to an end. It's a shame, hero, that you and your people aren't writing the end of yours. We've taken it upon ourselves to be the author of this universe's story, and your chapter will be added to the ever-growing story of how we dictated the path for all life.

Rubbish! PVP invasions would bring people to the game!

Meanwhile, I've heard the same 5-10 people talk down PVP here for about, what, 6 years or so now?

So not even just wandering into someone else's mission or TF/SF, but full on forced PvP if someone chooses to invade your mission or TF/SF? I can't give my response to this idea without getting banned.

Zero interest here and I'm not the least bit worried about any alleged skill issue.  It's  a different game requiring different builds that I've no interest in working on or towards.  If I want PvP I'll take chess or ASL (or ...) thank you very much.

Forced PvP...no. Sorry. Toggable invasions? Maybe.

Sure, that works too.

It'd certainly make posi 2 interesting if there was a player or two as final boss guards, who'd likely lose vs a whole team, to fight....

..or positioned in the tunnel between where the cot are and the final chem bombs.

Make it so the invaders / player bosses can't heal, and get rewards for participation and more for player kills.

Point being they're kinda supposed to lose. Like the 'spears of the church' fight in dark souls 3

-- random toggle invasions are just that, a given synapse endless bot kill would be spiced up tremendously with an arena round, or indeed direct player invade into the regular stuff.

'theyve captured a team member! Rescue them!'

It'd be truly unique across mmos on the go even now.

There are a lot of PVP players out there, and if you don't like it, you'd not need to encounter it.

I'd have a server with it forced flagged on, hell, I'd allow corpse enhancement looting. But that's just me.

Force exemp to prevent gross level imbalance. That system's already in game.
