Ver, I usually play on Excelsior and it's kinda too bad. Folks like you are an asset to the game. I hope you stick around in some capacity and remain a part of the community.

I'll also echo some of your noted frustrations with HC's direction. This is the game I play the most (I don't game much but when I do, it's CoX!). So, it is tough to see it going in the direction it is but I will keep hope alive! They finally tried something a bit different but...yeah...at least Marine Affinity is fun! 🙂

Anyway, all the best!

It does feel…I dunno, sad isn’t the word because to me that’d be a little selfish personally; valuing the security of a Veracor run over his own mental health or happiness with the direction of the game.* But more…bittersweet? Closest I can get.

Definitely going to be a shame for when I do pop on not to see V’s name in the ELTF lineup of runners for the night.

I absolutely agree about not liking the direction the game is heading in, and being honest, the type of community these changes are fostering. And with so many other games in the pipeline for this year and prior years to get to, and all of  our already limited times in the day, there’s no reason to sacrifice happiness.

*That is not to say that is how anyone else thinks or trying to paint a picture of anyone else, just my opinion.

I remember that I used to visit Everlasting to do Hami raids and MSR's back in the first year of HC, and I can remember when you were only Vet level 3000-ish.

Good luck to you in whatever your next gaming endeavor may be! 🙂

Those times you saw no footprints, I had Fly toggled on.

Veracor,

Thanks very much for your consistent leadership, for keeping your events open and treating folks equally, for the strategies you developed to improve badge runs, and for always being willing to help people learn more about the game.  More specifically, thanks for making the Underground shorter.  Hate to admit it but you're right it makes it so much better!!

Oh, also, We're all bunker busters now!

You're missed,

sundew

Joining you and the team on Everlasting TFs helped me stay engaged in the game far longer than if I just revisited my favorite missions alone. Thanks for carrying the community for such a long time.

I don't play often, but when I do Veracor is always there doing runs that fill up fast. I've been on a handful and they were some of the games peak fun.

I totally get it Veracor, hope you enjoy wherever you end up

It truly was the end of an era when Veracor quit.  It's like he said with that one key word: "consistency".  Having people in the community who will consistently perform, even if it's not specifically by leading content... just someone you can consistently rely on when you need to is so huge.  It's a bit of a shame that the main reason he quit is that the HC development consistently bothered him, but I guess that's just what we're stuck with.

Treating everyone fairly is great; unfair discrimination is badwrong!

I do not believe the false notion that "your ignorance is just as good as my knowledge."

The Definitive Empathy Rework

I've seen many people who get "celebrity" status in a game get an inflated ego problem, but that was never my experience with you -- you were always willing to help out and go above & beyond to help others have good enjoyment with the game.  Sometimes even a good sense of humor at misinformation ("Do you think we should tell him that +DEF does nothing against Hami?", definitely a oh... yep I'm wrong on that moment I'll always remember lol)  Overall, excellent job leading a team or league.  It was one of those "Oh Veracor is running this one?  Oh heck yeah!  Let's gooo!"  So, a very good experience indeed (when I could be online early enough to join your team/leagues).

Your steadiness and consistency was a huge asset to Everlasting and HomeComing as a whole, and you will be missed in your absence.

I will honored to fight by your side again, whenever you decide to visit (and we're in-game at the same time).

I know it may not mean much (might remember me by my main character, Alyssa Q'Uzixola), but sincerely: THANK YOU!  YOU ROCK!

*nods*...And has been contacted by Old Centauri and is off to fight Xur and the Kodan Empire.

I just casually mentioned The Last Starfighter to someone at work today, and I see this post tonight. What are the odds?

I'm late to the good-bye party (RL has been a beast for the last 3 months), but Veracor, I know you'll be missed. I really enjoyed working with you as one of our judges. You are fair and hard working, with no discernible ego, and I appreciate those qualities immensely! You are always someone who can be counted on, and that set you above many, from the start. I saw in you an excellent leader, who was patient beyond measure (especially with the Keyes Trial. I lost count of how many times we tried for "Avoids the Green Stuff", early on.) I watched, as I'm sure many did, as you calmly accepted someone's blundering mistakes despite clear instructions, with no overt reaction or recriminations. It made your teams a safe place for people who had no idea what they were doing, and I know the community appreciated that greatly. I laughed with your character photobombs during cut scenes; you always knew the exact spot that would give the best effects.

Have fun in your new game. 🙂

Hey Veracow, I was taking an extended break from CoW, and I popped onto the forums today to try and find out whey the task forces seemed to be so much rarer now; and I found your retirement thread. You really where the heartbeef of the server, and it's noticeable less active now. You should of cowse do what's best for yourself, and I wonder what the direction of CoW you are so cowncerned with is... but you've left your own hoofprint on the game for sure, and you'll be missed.

Salute to you, sir. I've been on quite a few of the raids and iTrials that you led.

Rest well. But I do expect to see you again. You just need to get past the burnout. I cycle through a handful of games myself. I understand this process. I stave it off for weeks and months with my game cycle and other things. You've staved it off for YEARS at this point. It will take a long time to not feel that on return.

Go play other games.

Go catch up on reading books or comics.

Watch movies from your bucket list.

Heck - go travelling in the really REAL world! Take pictures!

Also - come back to the forums and say hello even if you don't log into the game. Share what's going on with your life. People here care about you. You've made friends. Post pictures. Tell people what's going on. Your friends care. I recommend not going complete hermit.

That's my recommendation. And I don't even know you that well.

Is Veracor a name from a story/book/movie or was it purely his imagination?

I was playing a different game up until about a week ago and I'd see a Veracor and wondered.

Echoing the late goodbyes (painfully busy with IRL, missed this thread until the bump). Thanks for everything you've done to make Everlasting a welcoming server, Veracor! You helped me a ton when I was a clueless newbie and your raid-leading made running content seem so much less threatening.

Couldn´t find anything but "veraco" stands for truth.

Based off of a brief conversation I had with him years ago it's a creative interpretation of Latin for "True Heart" which would be something like Cor Vera.

Edit: Which was prompted by this poem in his base, which luckily is still open for viewing.
