Troo Posted Monday at 06:42 PM Posted Monday at 06:42 PM Many of the changes coming from the Homecoming team impact existing power sets and as such, existing characters. This could mean a Power Respecification is needed or required. (aka Respecification or Respec) Tip: use the slash command ' /respec ' Do folks like doing Respecs? Are there improvements that could be made to the Respec function? Do you plan to Respec? Note: It is usually an option to keep the build(s) a character has.. with caveats. Spoiler Removed / Replaced powers: Any power that has been removed or replaced will automatically be replaced. If the power changed positions the power will remain at the former position until respec'd. (position = level) Enhancement slotting: Any enhancement slotting that no longer allowed will remain but will not function. It's on the player to be aware of this. lemming Posted Monday at 07:40 PM Posted Monday at 07:40 PM Honestly, I hate respecs. The interface is clunky. I also dislike that a character can't hold all the enhancements and that's it's a pita to move them all into the tray. At least you can take advantage of the quirk of zoning immediately after a respec will restore your trays, mostly. The whole thing could be redesigned, or at least something where you could import a build and the char would be just done. (Good for transfers to beta where you may be using a different account, or just wanting to try a build, etc...) 5 3 2
Water Posted Monday at 07:58 PM Posted Monday at 07:58 PM Only on HEATs and VEATs. Or if I cock up a build during development. Not keen on them so I try to build to satisfaction on the way to 50. Errors are easier to rectify in the lower levels. If you don't use multiple builds you could use one of those as a respec to tune up a mismanaged build, I haven't yet. Try to avoid yes - use to correct a mismanaged build only. 1
Hedgefund2 Posted Monday at 08:03 PM Posted Monday at 08:03 PM I'm curious to see if there are any "yes" votes to 1). As for me 1) hard "no" 2) yes, anything is probably better. I do like the idea of importing something, probably a Mids build. It doesn't even need to include the enhancements, just the powers and slots allocated. 3) another hard "no". If I find I'm going to revisit some retired characters then maybe (like some Plant Control users) but otherwise nope. If respeccing wasn't such a pain, I'd be more likely to. 1
Ghost Posted Monday at 08:14 PM Posted Monday at 08:14 PM I don’t know if “like” is the correct word, but I don’t mind doing them. Hell, I’ve done enough of them that I don’t even think twice about typing in the command. One improvement I’d like is if it would be possible to show me how I picked the powers before. So basically when it’s my 13th power pick, it highlights what I had taken on the previous build 13th. If a respec is needed, I’ll do one without giving it a second thought. 1 1
DoctorDitko Posted Monday at 08:20 PM Posted Monday at 08:20 PM (edited) I really wish I had known about your "quirk" a long time ago. I'm sure I have high double digits of unused respecs sitting in my various alts, all because it's such a PITA to redo my trays. Maybe low triple digits, not sure. Lots, anyway! I still really wish there was a "respec-lite" version that would let you just change a power choice or move a few slots. I think re: the beta server there exists a mechanism to take a build from Mids and import it to Beta. Edited Monday at 08:30 PM by DoctorDitko mids 1 1 Disclaimer: Not a medical doctor. JKCarrier Posted Monday at 08:27 PM Posted Monday at 08:27 PM 1) Nope, it's a total pain. 2) I wish you could just do simple replacements, i.e. "Pick Power X instead of Power Y and leave everything else the same". That's 99% of my respecs -- a power doesn't do what I thought it did, or just ends up not working out, and I want to get rid of it. 3) Unlikely. If my current character gets fudged up so badly that I don't think they're viable (it would have to be pretty bad, since I'm not exactly a Mega-Optimized Power Gamer to start with), I'll probably just trash them and roll up something new. 1 --- 64453 - This Was Your Life? - An AE arc that lets you relive your hero's greatest triumphs! twozerofoxtrot Posted Tuesday at 12:57 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:57 PM Definitely have some respecs incoming. At least two brutes who are going to have a great new life. A controller who no longer needs Teleport target for Singularity. Probably a Dom or Controller or three who will actually take their AoE Holds since adaptive recharge makes them so darned efficient now. And i think Ill be dumpstering an EnA brute and plant dom. Already shaved off several tankers an a fledgling plant controller. Only mentioning since I use the clunky respec system to strip enhancements and put them in storage.
lyra Posted Tuesday at 01:03 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:03 PM i don't like respecs.so much that i prefer to run around with an old build instead of going through the whole procedure just to swap 1 power. [NPC] Fallen Gunner: Hero schmero.
Skyhawke Posted Tuesday at 01:08 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:08 PM *Hate doing them, but I understand the need at times. Hell, I've done one just to take the base IOs off a character before I put their IO sets in (waste not, want not). The interface is cluuuuuuunky and beyond tedious when you have to drag and drop every. single. enhancement. to. the. tray. *Honestly, a "put everything left in the tray" function would help immensely. Keeping your trays as they were without having to use the quirk would be nice. *There's a few characters I play now that will need respecs with the coming patch. So, yes <grumble grumble> I will be doing some soon. Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior
Snarky Posted Tuesday at 01:59 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:59 PM (edited) I will obsessively rebuild if not perfect. Unslotters have become my friend. Respecification is a clunky process, and that is being kind. I took Black Hole on my current Dark Dark Corr. Now at 34. The power is near useless. I use it rarely when solo to snag glowies in crowded rooms. It is (barely) useful for that. I had high hopes when I heard a rumor they were changing it. I looked over the change. Warm dog shit with whipped cream on top is still dog shit. I will be respeccing the build when i move it up to 39 in a few weeks. Right now the only power i might take to replace it is leadership manuevers, and i do not need/want it just yet. Most of my stuff is unaffected by the changes. I stopped running Brutes almost entirely a few years back. Twofold reasons 1) end game mechanics punish melee 2) HC staff (cottage rule?😆 right…) turned Tanks into the premier melee dps. And those are proc’d builds. I ran Brutes not heavily proc’d. Bye bye Brutes. I will respec as needed, but I just play my own way and ignore most stuff. I tried to give input on Black Hole and that turned into a disaster. So, they will implement warm dog shit with whipped cream v2 Black Hole and I will respec out. Time for a solid respec at level 39 anyways. Been having growing pains since late 20s. Edited Tuesday at 02:00 PM by Snarky

Clave Dark 5 Posted Tuesday at 03:24 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:24 PM (edited) I jump from toon to toon, and don't often revisit them too often, but I used to - I like them and I am loathe to let them go (I could strip them for IOs and be rich forever), but this discourages me from revisiting them tbh. And if a lot of my work in the game has been rendered moot, that kind of makes me less connected to the game at all. Not being able to pull them back out and be effective* is just kind of a barrier to playing them ever again, and therefore less likely to come back. *I know I know, "it's all relative regarding the toon and old build" etc. but I'm not interested in keeping up with all the newly enforced minutia - which alone is indicative of something in how I'm feeling about playing. ETA -- I realized it's not the respec but the homework to understand all the changes and THEN creating a new build. I have had fun with designing builds, but this "forced" feels well yeah, "forced," and I'm likely to skip it, etc., see above.
