Do you hoard temps?

Am I alone on this? I can't bring myself to use them. I am paralyzed by this farfetched, hypothetical scenario where the team is down, AVs are looming and some random temp power I picked up 8 months ago is the key to victory.

 

I also save and hold onto things "just in case" irl so maybe it's indicative of some kind of issue.

 

The P2W grenades and envenomed dagger I throw like candy at a parade... so I'm not a miser... but I never use anything I get from a mission unless it expires by time. I recently picked up a nova style power somewhere with 10 uses AND a timer and I agonized over every use.

Unless I make space in a visible tray, they tend to end up in hidden trays and I forget I have them. Even then, many of them are underwhelming. Bow & Arrow? Iron Blade? Holy Shotgun Shells? Why bother. The only ones I use regularly are Amy's Ward, Wedding Band, Warwolf Whistle and the Hammers of Justice summons.

The only temp powers I really use are the jetpacks since I usually don't take flight as a power pool.

Unless it recharges or unless I can buy as many as I need from the P2W vendor, I never use it.  It's a sickness of mine.

Temp powers I remember to use (on rare occasions).: Wedding Band, Bean Bag Rifle, Vial of Bees

 

If I cannot remember that I have them, I wont use them. I see them when I rarely respec, and go: "oh yeah, that would have been good to use, oh well, maybe next time." Then I forget again.

 

I use the wheel of destruction powers in the mission I find them in.

Yes, I hoard them because I forget I get them.

I’m in the same boat. I was absolutely devastated when I used the Wedding Band in the final AV fight on an ITF and realized I hadn’t switched it off while I was selling my stuff at Wents afterwards. I had used up at least four minutes of it in the shops.

I did have a habit on Live of always keeping a full set of Warburg Nukes and a Fresh Shivan Shard on each + every toon "just in case" too.
But ever since the P2W vendors arrived that's become a full set of Signature Summons and Envenomed Daggers.

I do hoard for the 'just in cases'. I mainly have psi def and res, pet and confuse powers in my trays. The psi powers allow me to hit the hard cap for res on the super rare occasion I'd need it. The confuse stacks with what I already have.

I usually don't use them because I  rely more on base powers.  Granted ones from missions that are of limited use, I rarely make use of.

 

Temp powers that I use are the usual suspects that can be restocked and depends on the character.

Honestly, a lot of temp powers aren't worth using. Flashbang grenades? Confiscated beanbag? Yawn. Penelope Yin's gift to summon some clockwork minions? Ho-hum.

 

The temp powers that are worth using, I do try to make decent use of, especially if they're time limited.  "Iron Blade" or "Rune of Warding" from Croatoa come to mind. You need some good +accuracy to all powers from set bonues to make best use of them, but they're great on a Defender or Controller. Blaster, less important, you can burn things down anyway.

 

Temp powers that you can re-aquire, I'll use plenty.  Jetpacks. Shivan Shards. I try to save Shivan Shards for Arch Villains or stupid-hard missions, but for those fights, smoke'em if you got 'em because you can always get more. Really handy for Portal Jockey.

 

Temp powers that are good, non-re-acquirable, and limited by use... yea... I conserve too much. I've never burned up a "Ring of Peebles". I do use it, but just barely 2 minutes of use at any given time, then quickly back off again.  The Ice Armor temp power, too.

Put me on team hoarder, based on convenience of reacquiring.  Shivans I'll use fairly freely because replenishing those is easy enough.  Others like Amy or the Warwolf I have to be in really dire straits to use, since the refill on those is capped at 1 use (I do believe).  Anything that just needs inf (e.g. Envenom Daggers, the P2W rez or the power analyzer), I'll use freely.  

 

Attacks and armors I tend to hoard just for hoarding sake.  They tend to not be that good.  Unenhanceable accuracy means they have issues connecting against higher cons.  I suppose Tactics helps, I never bothered to check.

A few temps are nice, but I've seen people go nuts with trying to collect every temp available.

I have this hangup from Live where Temp Powers, such as the Clockwork pets and the witch from Katie Hannon were unreplaceable. Once they were gone, they were gone.

 

But I also tend to hoard even Insps until I'm in serious trouble - but that's part of the beauty of any game in that knowing when to use temp powers is part of knowing how to be successful in your gaming endeavours

Sometimes I do look at a temp power and go "Why am I holding onto that?" similar to when I finally went thru my cable horde and wondered why I had a PS/2 cable.

I still have at last one serial connector RS232 mouse from pre PS/2 days.
(And a few stacks of floppy disks... not just the 3.5 inch size either...) 😓

My obsession with keeping working examples of "older tech" secreted away in various showboxes/drawers/etc does occasionally come in useful though. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to dig something out of the cache in order to get different bits of new "smarter tech" to work properly and/or talk to each other (because one didn't understand the other's flavour of Wireless Casting; or because an HDMI port decided it was going to refuse to work on Tuesdays) let alone stripping + resoldering old stereo/speaker bits.

About the only ones that get used consistently are the ones that summon helpers (Wolf Whistle, et. al.). Those are always useful, if only to pull some aggro off me.
The offensive powers can be useful at low levels, when you don't have a full attack chain yet; after that, they're kind of meh.
The defensive ones likewise seem underwhelming. I'll be in a situation where I'm getting clobbered, and pop on Wedding Ring or Cryonic Armor or whatever, and they never make a noticeable difference.
So I'm not consciously hanging on to them, but they tend to accumulate.

For the most part it isn't about hoarding them but because I don't use them. They get slid off to a different tray, and basically forgotten. Every now and again I'll go "oh, I have that thing" and use one, but they basically just get in the way.

I might be in the minority but I delete temp powers. I enjoy having fewer powers.

By pure  coincidence I counted all my temp powers on my main just last night.

I have158 and I will keep them close as they are my preciousessss!

The reason I counted them was because I am about to post in the Suggestion sub forum that the temp powers section should be alphabetasised to make it much easier to keep track of what we have and make it quicker to get to the one wanted for use.

I hoard temp powers like they were going out of style. I'll go out of my way to collect them just to have them.

Use them? Why would I use them? I might need them someday!

And it's not just temp powers.

Soooo yeah I collect them, but tend to use them as well, especially the ones you can get more copies of through the flashback arcs, Ones I commonly use are Shivans, Warburg Nukes, Arachnos Power Shield (for my VEATs has a cool activation animation, and 20% resit for them)  PPD Grenade Launcher form the prison break zone event reward: lasts 24 hours quite good. Rikti Rifle and Drone summon, very quick to get and a weapon (30 uses and summon 3 uses.) Vial of Bees because I like to link it in chat for comedic effect.  Enchantment of Serafina For Psi characters +resit psi and + psi dmg.
