Knight2pwn Posted July 9 Posted July 9 So who is down for checking out Ship of Heroes when it launches? This Unreal 4 game indie game is likely the only new superhero mmo we will be getting for a long time to come, and while I love CoH and Homecoming in theory at least this game should have better legs given its game engine. So who will be there punching bad guys at launch!
arcane Posted July 9 Posted July 9 God I hope no one. Annoying when friends have the audacity to get stuck playing something else. 2
Psyonico Posted July 9 Posted July 9 No native Linux version means at the bare minimum I’m waiting a month to see what compatibility looks like. sounds promising though. 1 What this team needs is more Defenders
Billbailey96 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I looked at games like that when I was looking for a replacement for CoH when it first went down, but now that I have Homecoming why do I need a City of Heroes at home? 3
Lunar Ronin Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I put $,$$$ into Ship of Heroes between 2017 and 2020, so I will be there.
Skyhawke Posted July 9 Posted July 9 My machine won't run it, so no for me. COH scratches that itch nicely and I can hold off upgrading for a few more years. Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior
PeregrineFalcon Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I was in a couple of the earlier beta tests. It seems like it has a lot of potential. I'm worried that it won't have enough content at launch to keep people around. I'll be playing it at launch, but I don't know for how long. Maybe it'll be one of those games that I just play for awhile after each update. Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.
SeraphimKensai Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I'll probably check it out at some point but my free time is limited enough that I hardly even get online here as much as I used to.
Go0gleplex Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Had not heard of it 'til now. Looking at the site stuff...honestly...not really inspiring. Clunky and doll-like visually though I'm attributing that to being a rough demo type thing. Think I'll pass for now and look in on it once some time has passed.
Snarky Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) Ship of Fools. And entirely possible this ship has sunk. (Can a ship sink in space?) this is Steam, and i do not need that this is Heroes. Taps foot. Looks around…. Heroes? Spandex wearing hypocrites with martyr complexes? Heroes? Hard pass. See you! Can you send me your inf to @Snarky as you move on? I have a lot of alts left here to do. Nasty, vile and evil alts! Edited July 9 by Snarky 1 1 1
skoryy Posted July 9 Posted July 9 It took me ten seconds of the trailer and a trip to Massively to find out I'd be paying box and sub for some N64 level graphics. Maybe if they ever drop the sub. 1 Everlasting's Actionette, Guardian Echo Five, Sunflare, and Officer Foxfire! Also Starwave, Nightlight, and many more!

LastHumanSoldier Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I watched the Hype Trailer. I did the opposite. No way I am even looking at this at launch. 1 1
biostem Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I don't know if it's nostalgia or just my own personal bias, but the animations from the trailer seem... off. I don't know if it's the general art direction or what, but it just doesn't draw me in... 4 1
Logansan Posted July 10 Posted July 10 (edited) I never expect this game to ever launch. It's been a few years since I even thought about it. Now, after looking at their trailer and website a few things comes to mind. 1. They seem to have spent most of their time on fancy graphical power effects a lot more then the character graphics. The appearance of the characters just looks wrong to me for some reason. 2. The movement of the player characters in the trailer also just looks wrong to me, maybe it just the video quality or something, I'm not sure. 3. When looking at that screenshots of the character customisation screens on their website, my first thought was "wow, the NC Soft lawyers are going to be interested in this". Still, If there is FTP option, a free trail period, or the cost is very low I likely check it out when it launches, even if just for a few days hours. High_Beam Posted July 10 Posted July 10 That looks terrible! I wasn't expecting it to look that bad. And those sound effects, it looks like those commercials form the mid nineties for learning game programming, its like . . . Lawnmower man level bad. I want to feel bad for their developers, but then I see them clipping through bodies and walls. 1 Girls of Nukem High - Excelsior - Tempus Fabulous, Flattery, Jennifer Chilly, Betty Beatdown, Totally Cali, Two Gun Trixie Babes of War - Excelsior - High Beam (Yay), Di Di Guns, Runeslinger, Munitions Mistress, Tideway, Hard Melody, Blue Aria Many alts and lots of fun. Thank you Name Release For letting me get my OG main back!

Well, at least no one's going to accuse them of releasing a trailer with far better graphics than what's in game, as a lot of games have done in the past. Personally I think the graphics look better than City of Heroes, but the character animations look. . . I don't know. Weird? Cheap? Cheap, like they couldn't afford to hire someone who was good at doing character animations. I don't remember the character animations being that bad in the beta tests. Maybe I was looking at the world and not paying attention to the animations. 1 Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.
LegionAlpha Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I want to be honest, I forgot about this game. Went to see the trailer for it and all I said in my head was "why are they releasing a game with 2017 graphics?". I mean it was okay but, it is not the game I thought would knock my socks off. I am so pissed off right now I really do not want to turn this into another Starfield rant( Oblivion Remaster is not going to make me forgive you Bethesda). I wanted a space game that is not Eve Online or Elite Dangerous. Which so far gives me a taste of what it is like in space and that is barely scratching that epic adventures around the galaxy itch those two games give. 1

Water Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I don't think a subscription is the right way to go. Waiting for F2P then I'll have a look at it. Until then COH is the game for me. 1
MonteCarla Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I'm going to give this a look, and throw them a few $$. Getting something like this off the ground is a massive effort. I love CoH, but other superhero games are cool too. The Badass Empath Guide Modern Force Fields Guide The Rich Alt's Guide to Perma-Dom Resistances for Brutes Proc Bombing for Defenders
MoonSheep Posted July 10 Posted July 10 i agree with a lot of the comments here. i’m sure the dev team have put a lot of work into this and value it as a much loved project and may also be players of HC, but i don’t think it’s ready to be released yet from the trailer and gameplay videos i’ve seen general thoughts are: - animations seem very wooden - nothing during combat seems fluid, it looks almost like a turn based MMO, enemies seem to just stand around whilst being attacked - a lack of particles is quite noticeable - the world seems very basic, there’s more shadows and textures needed If you're not dying you're not living
tidge Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I'm happy they are going to launch; I won't be checking them out. Of all the at-sunset ideas for a CoX replacement, Ship of Heroes made the most sense (to me) as a game concept with a practical approach to development. In comparison, City of Titans appears to be a good example of some of the worst "agile development" software projects I've witnessed. 1 2
