I can’t believe that I’ve been playing for this long and I’ve only discovered in the last month the add note feature. It allows you to give ratings for players (and notes obviously - speed boost showcases a vibrant ruby color with aromas of blackcurrent, oak, and burnished leather) and for someone like me who plays almost exclusively on PUGs it’s fantastic at reminding me of who I’ve played with before.

My rating system is based largely on chat quality:

5 stars (15% of players): initiates interesting chat / is hilarious / amazing costume / super helpful and considerate

4 stars (25% of players): joins in with chat / is funny / is helpful with tt, advice etc

3 stars (50% of players): everyone gets 3 stars for showing up

2 stars [9% of players): bit moany / bit miserable / look at me everyone I’m soloing causes team wipe

1 star (1% of players): actively unpleasant (only happened once and we all cheered when they were booted)

Does anyone else use this feature?  Does everyone else use this feature and once again I’ve been a complete plonker for not knowing about it?  If so, what’s your rating system?

I think it's not very well explained, like many of the features in the game. I tend to use it more as a quick way to check global names than for its actual purpose of keeping notes, because while it's all well and good knowing that some guy is a dick, it doesn't really make a practical barrier when you sign up for a PUG and see them on the team. I do have some people I play with regularly 5-starred just so I can spot them on an alt.

Should mention, this is stored locally in your Account folder under playernotes.txt

Most of my notes are, oh hey, that's Bob who I play with regularly.

Though there are quite a few with five star ratings if they are excellent league leaders or players, and normally I'll give details in the note.

A few 1 star notes, usually someone who spams with unpleasant views (and seem to go away anyway)

I use it a bit, most folks get 4 stars, league leaders and good friends get 5 stars and trash ppl get 1 star. I don't really use 2 and 3 stars.

I really wish I didn't have to target someone to see the stars I've given them. I'd like those folks to just run around with my ratings over their heads to make it quick and easy for me to see if I have any past experience with that individual.

In options you can change it so that player rating is shown all the time.  I think it’s in the windows options menu.

If binds or macros are you thing... there are 2 note commands, /playernote and /playernotelocal. Of the two, /playernotelocal is by far the more useful one as it doesn't matter if the name you enter is a local or global name. Just type the name in and it will figure it out.

https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Playernotelocal_(Slash_Command)

One weird thing about this command is that it doesn't take the chat variables, so you can't use $target to automatically enter the targeted character's name for the command. However, /GetGlobalName uses the chat variable just fine. Weird.

I've only ever given two 5* ratings. One to @Tort - as he's the guy that led the first RHW on Torchbearer, I want to say that was before Excelsior existed. The other was @ST1TcH

I do put a lot of notes on people.

Things like: "This player went afk during the beatdown on Hami" or, "This player was afk during the Labyrinth"

Mind you, if you're afk long enough for me to see the AFK bubble over your head...that's more than just a minute to get a drink or something. And yeah, things come up. But it's just a note. Now, if I see it again...then it's a bit of a pattern, and then I rate you 2 stars. Then, if I see you on a TF team - I make an excuse and leave the team before it starts.

I'll make other notes, like: recruits, but doesn't reply one way or the other. Rude. And give 2 stars.

And sometimes, I'll give 4 stars like "was on successful master run of XXXXX TF/SF."
I don't normally give 3 stars, I don't think.

I can count the people I’ve got rated on one hand. I only use it for extreme cases. And of course no one is rated 2/3/4.

This.

Except for me it's counting on two hands, and maybe a foot or three...

Those times you saw no footprints, I had Fly toggled on.

i tend to rate my friends 1 star because it’s funny, but don’t really use the system outside of that

player notes are helpful if someone was particularly fun or chatty. helps remembering who some people are on my global list too

You can all rate me 5 stars.  I am a horrible person who plays poorly and i am annoying.  But….    I am sooo much cooler than everyone else.  I wear formal attire, not… *shudders …brightly colored tights.  I know many smart, very smart people, who say I should be rated 6 stars.

I’ll rate a player when they do something that bothers me,

such as

a player speeding through to the final room during a kill all Pen Yin, so they can ATT everyone.

a tank leading a team of squishies, by running off as fast as they can, leaving us behind to fend for ourselves.

Just so you don't feel too badly...Okie was giving instructions last night for MoBAF. Preceding the prisoner phase, he types out "set to aggressive - stay".

Now, the aggressive part..been doing that since day one.
The "stay"...I swear, I'd never used that before and although I'm sure I "saw" it, it never registered. I've never used it until last night.

You get No Stars.

Zero, Zilch, Nada, Nought

No Stars, no proto-Stars, no gas giants, no minor astral bodies.

But you can have some random space dust with which to line your Sarcoughaghost

I use the Note system constantly.  Mostly for people who team with me and help out with missions, they get three and four stars.

If you get two stars you narrowly avoided getting put on ignore.  I'll note the reason why in the text box.  Sometimes people redeem themselves later.

One star is for people on ignore, and I'll note why I put them there in the text box.  Mostly because once you're on ignore I can't hear them anymore but when they show up I like to remember they're on ignore and why.

Only person I have ever put on ignore isn't because I don't like them it's just that their constant schizoid rants disturb me and I don't want to worry about them

Posted

One star -- ToT leech, said something bigoted, big ol troll (with included note of what was said); very possibly on /ignore.

Two star -- Just hugely annoying ('git gud' team leaders who berate you for not knowing as much as they do, for example), but as bad as one-star people, also possibly on /ignore

Three star -- never used

Four star -- Great player, friendly, funny, good costume, anything like that, with note explaining.

I have it set to display all the time.  I think there must have been some turn-over in the population as I don't see the stars on too many players anymore.

I have not used it yet, but I solo more than I team.  When I do team, I'm not super choosy.

  • If someone genuinely offends me to the point where I am actually disgusted with them, I drop team and /gignore them on the spot. But it is extremely rare that this has come up. Maybe 3 times in 4 years. People have to really be sailing far far over the line for that.

For nearly all other cases, I'm easy-come-easy-go for teaming.

  • I enjoy banter in team chat, esp for story arc or tip mission teams. Something to make it less grindy.
  • If someone really seems like they don't know what they're doing, I'll send them a tell asking if they'd like some pointers. Usually people are glad, or at most a "nah, I'm good". If they're causing wipes and don't want advice, then I might suddenly "get a phone call I have to take" and drop team. But if they're not causing wipes, just not performing at a high level but want to figure it out themselves, OK, I got no bones with that either. I also can be a stubborn sonofbeech.
  • If someone is quiet, but gets the job done and isn't unpleasant in any way, that's fine by me, too. I'm an introvert myself.
