I had a Thugs/Traps back in the day called Johnny Moronic. With that idiot-smile face and a generally Matrix-y look to the costume (shades, suit and trenchcoat).

Plant / Storm / Ice epic with proceed up creepers in an invasion event. You don't even need to aim. Just drop things and leave them go. Might go against your requirement for agency though.

Even better if you have Winters Chance for Knockdown in Hail of bullets. Fulc Shift > Hail of bullets with them all falling over at the start is glorious and why DP/Kin is probably my favourite character to play. I've also a weird fondness for my Ice/Traps/Stone junkbot with sorcery & fold space. Everything recoloured an off yellow to look like pollution and smog. Very not meta but weirdly entertaining (I've a fondness for point-blank-squishies going back to a Fire/Rad controller on live).

This. Lob speed boosts at the main team scrum whenever. Don't lose too much sleep ensuring everyone has it all the time. My Kin corruptors main job (DP/Kin) is to get into melee range 1.5 seconds after the main tank*, pop Fulcrum Shift to buff everyone in range (before the blasters blow up my fuel) then unload AoE chaos. Maybe pop a heal & end heal then help clean up whatevers left. As that's happening Ill likely double tap my macro to target, sb and id my allies while they finish off the bosses. * If the main tank is too slow I'll likely run in anyway. Playing a DP/Kin as scrapperlock is hugely entertaining.

It wasn't worth the beans. Now it kinda is. On controllers & MMs you need to proc it to make it worthy (controllers don't get containment from it for some reason). Other ATs it's worthwhile without being OP. Think Domis might be the best for it because Domis usually lack AoE and tend to have a pet to plonk it on. Depends if you wanna go that deep into Sorcery. One place it's really good is the Summer Blockbuster. I had it on my Water/Dark, parsed out the results and it excelled there.

Last Hit Against you In Combat Monitor
Carnifax replied to Arbegla's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I do log enemy attacks Vs you, in the defensive bit of the tree view. It's broken down by power hitting you I believe. Never bothered tablizing that bit of the tree though. But yeah, you can see how often enemy attacks hit you in the tree view of the parser. Sadly there's no way to see how effective resists are for you in the logs. You only see the final damage taken in the logs, it doesn't record the original damage figure. You could fudge it by letting something hit you with shields off, then raising them (unshielded should be logged as Max) -
Semi new to Khelds, couple questions
Carnifax replied to lokiie1984's topic in Peacebringer & Warshade
Biform WS probably makes more sense because you can run in / tp in fully invisible, self buff in human form (Eclipse then Mire), nuke then shapeshift to squid for ranged damage. Floaty fortress of doom is good times. Human only you'll want some melee attacks because Gravity Well does a tonne of damage. Great Vs bosses. That all being said I like triform because lobster is your Mez protection and has another short duration mire. As well as giving you the flexibility to Tank if the team needs it. You dont get a taunt aura sadly, PBAoE and Taunt in lobster form are your aggro tools. Shapeshifting macros which switch your bottom bar help with all of this. -
Is it better to slot /traps with procs or a full set?
Carnifax replied to Zilean's topic in Mastermind
Recharge is your #1 focus as a Trapper. Everything benefits from more recharge. Poison Trap procs well so worth doing. Seekers and Trip Mine procs won't work at all (I assume because the entity dies as it's doing its effect). On paper Acid looks like it'd be good but in parses didn't come out that well for me. So recharge 1st. Achilles next. Set binus if you're chasing one for it (I usually don't bother). Damage procs last (again I don't really bother any more). -
Stuck at "Checking if the site connection is secure"
Carnifax replied to biostem's topic in Help & Support
Happens on my phone too (bog standard Android). Back button triggers ye olde timey "form needs to be resubmitted" page. Not nice. -
Grrr. Why are the forums so screwy now? Third time trying. Here's a DP/Poison I threw together from my DP/Kin & Elec/Poison controller. Can't post the build for some reason, Forums are acting weird. So here's a CoH Build Share link to it. Melee Def is capped, you could play with Dark Consumption slots to lose some of that in favour of better End recovery. https://www.cohbuildshare.com/builds/293

Stuck at "Checking if the site connection is secure"
Carnifax replied to biostem's topic in Help & Support
I'm seeing all sorts of weirdness with the forums. Constant "Checking your browser" (Vivaldi) along with weird errors being thrown when trying to post things (Something about a Template being iffy) -
How is he even hitting you with all the -ToHit you can throw out? Not to mention the -Dam from Chemie Rounds on top on Weaken and Venomous Gases. Only way to show the build is good is to post it and get feedback.

Officially Unofficial Weekly Discussion #3: Praetoria
Carnifax replied to SeraphimKensai's topic in General Discussion
We did a wizard of Oz themed team for Praetoria last year and it was great fun. The missions are fun, the ambushes less so but became a running joke. Cordoning it off as a separate "start game" was a bizarre decision by the original Devs. They'd seen what happened to Villains yet decided on a forced split again. Bizarre. Like the enemy groups, enjoy the missions, ambushes and all, don't understand why all that shiny new content got plonked into a separate subgame. As for First Ward & Night Ward I love FW. don't like how the Contacts end up filling the "Find new contact" thing from level 30 on. Strongly dislike Night Ward. Too many of the enemies are overtuned and lots of visual spam. Making the Spells so hard to see, especially once powers start flying is urrgh and the missions aren't as fun. Time Spells can go do one as well.- 50 replies

The Soulbound Proc allows the PAs to occasionally Build Up themselves for a few seconds of extra damage. And since there's 3 of them it goes off reasonably often. PAs can buff themselves it turns out. 2nd is to max out Recharge, boost Acc and get the 2 set bonus because you may as well.
-
Oh right. It's not gone anywhere. It's hosted on AWS and every couple of months it decides to switch itself off for some reason. If you see it happen PM me and I'll not miss it for like 2 weeks (or a month, like in this case). I haven't really played CoH for about 6 months, so I rarely swing by here. PMs work cos I get emails from them. And we're back. Annoyingly it looks like the Bonus damage from Disintegrate isn't showing as a Column here (Shocked, Criticals and Scourge do and the same regex should also pick up Disintegrate bonus damage along with damage from the Disintegrate power).

Focused Feedback: Fiery Aura Revamp
Carnifax replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Aaah, never mind I've figured it out. Looks like the parser is bugged but just for misses. It's adding the Misses from the Burn Patch to the misses from the parent but not hits. So the Accuracy of the parent power is skewed downwards (212 = 203 from the Burn Patch + 9 from the parent power which is what I see in the raw file when I go regex hunting). -

Pseudopet is the grey italics thing underneath. But the parser adds up the damage from all pseudopets (and in the case of Pets procs as well due to how the game logs them differently to procs in "normal" powers). So the damage figure for Burn would be both Burn itself and the burning patch (also called Burn now; from a legibility point of view it'd be better if it had another name). Game claims I've a 91% chance of hitting things, so not sure why I'm seeing a 55% chance once you count hits and misses up. The fact it didn't change when Focused Acc was up is deeply suspicious. Every other power saw a 7-8% improvement overall. The three lines at the bottom of this snippet are for the Burn pseudopet (not the main power). Not sure why Streakbreaker is getting involved there. 2022-10-07 14:09:39 HIT Galaxy Archon! Your Burn power had a 95.00% chance to hit, you rolled a 62.07. 2022-10-07 14:09:39 HIT Equinox Adjutant! Focused Feedback: Fiery Aura Revamp
Carnifax replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Right then. ToHit on Burn is definitely bugged. Yet another Council run, this time with Focused Acc running. Still I hit only 55% of the time (so around the same as without it running) I'd encourage others to parse their Combat Log tests on Beta and check the Hits/Misses of Burn because as far as I can tell it's ignoring buffs & slotting. -
Focused Feedback: Fiery Aura Revamp
Carnifax replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I swore I wasn't going to get dragged into this testing cycle but here we are. Reran the usual +4x8 Council paper mission and DPS has taken a fairly severe hit (~290 -> 244) thanks to the lower AoE in burn (mission was a kill all and I was reasonably aggressive). One potential issue is the the main "Burn" power was hitting only 56% of the time according to my parser. All other powers (including the Burn subpower) are fine so is Burn correctly using Acc & +ToHit; it seems weirdly anomalous. I'll try and do a 2nd run with Focused Accuracy on to see if that helps but this seems out to me. Not really sure what Rise of the Phoenix is for now, damage is meh but then I was using it unslotted. Pretty sure given the 75% threshold the change is worthless (because if I'm a Tank and find my health dropping do I want to trigger it?). Personally I'd remove the threshold altogether. As-is it's pretty much a gimmick. -
Focused Feedback: Fiery Aura Revamp
Carnifax replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
So ran a Council Paper mission on Live and Beta. I know there are "better" ways to do these things but I can't find an AE mission on both servers designed for testing these things. I also reslotted Burn to remove the Procs in favour of bog standard vanilla slotting (which is one reason I hate all these nerfs to procs in general. It makes planning a build so boring; choice is fun. Slotting everything for Def + Recharge is dull. Removing slotting options by rendering them useless is a bad thing). I'm not sure what the changes ARE to Burn in terms of parsing the logs. Previously Burn was 2 things : Burn + Flames, as shown on the Live table https://www.carnifax.org/?uuid=7d606537-45c2-4c6e-9ce7-845635f81d98 combat_1665061368000_2022-10-06 13_02_48.0_Barbed DeQue.txt (Live CoH) Now it looks like Flames is no more and the "Flames patch" has been bundled into the child power? combat_1665061826000_2022-10-06 13_10_26.0_Barbed DeQue1.txt Mission wise my DPS stayed about the same anyway (so not sure this is achieving much other than pissing off the Farmers; maybe that's the point, but it's a weird one given the drop in player numbers the last 8 months). Overall not a huge change for me; Burn damage is down a bit overall but in line with the Slotting changes I made, but then I am Claws and thus have Forced Feedbacks to counter the changes. Across the board I'd agree with everyone who says "It should be less" : 32 seconds seems sensible as a number. I don't play much / at all any more (once since last Page I believe because it didn't excite me at all, neither does this one particularly although I'm happy for the Sentinals) so chances are this is all the testing I'll do with this. TLDR : Nerfing procs in Burn is fair enough. Nerfing procs across the board would be a stupid thing to do. Recharge change hurts some Melee sets more than others and should be at least semi-reversed. -
Pretty much this. Elec/Poison controller looked interesting so I built a build for that. While doing that the concept of a glowy neon green "computer virus come to life" happened. "Malwire" hit me as an pun on Malware when I was working on the cossie. Fire/Claws tank I started thinking about rotisserie chicken and spatchcock BBQ so a giant chicken called Barbed DeQue was born. So I tend to be set driven and concept hits while I'm build pondering. Pun name usually comes last. Except Mombie (Necro/Nature). That happened all at once.

Symphony / Dark - Anyone got a good endgame build?
Carnifax replied to Mr. Apocalypse's topic in Dominator
If you mean Sleet & Ice Storm youll be better off putting the procs elsewhere I'm afraid. Rains count as pseudopets with toggles on so the recharge for calculating the proc rate is fixed at 10 seconds. Coupled with the large AoE that gives you a low proc rate (I parsed it out for Freezing Rain, running x8 radios solo to test, and it was blargh). -
Trip Mine is more flexible, just thanks to its short recharge, it's not a "once every 2nd spawn" thing like Oil Slick. But yes it takes a while to get there (honestly I PLed my Ice/Traps to 30 like I do with most of my chars now).
-
Traps has the advantage of Trip Mine. It's hella annoying when you get interrupted but it still makes up the bulk of my damage solo. Even without doing the "make a little death camp then Fold Space everything into it". In fairness the Fear from Shivers should gel with it pretty well.
-
Traps loves Recharge first of all. Like really really likes it. Also Ice has meh damage so Sorcery for Arcane Bolt is a really good idea. Epic wise hard to look past Earth for melee compatible powers and Forced Feedback in Fissure along with a Def shield and a Heal / +HP which can take Resist uniques. Mine was born of when Sorcery got the revamp and Fold Space became a thing and isn't Page 4 compatible (no Shiver) so could be considered out of date. Conceptually he's a "Junkbot", I recoloured Ice to look like Pollution Control and it works quite well. I skipped quite a few Traps powers (Caltrops, Seekers and Triage) in order to squeeze in Teleport and Sorcery. Obviously you don't need to do that if you don't want (I was also running a Thugs / Traps at around the same time so wanted them to have different flavours). And a planned Page 4 Respec I'm kind of reluctant to do (because I enjoy Enflame on Jack a lot)
