I think you are being too generous in assuming that those creating obvious ripoffs don't know that what they are doing is wrong/against the ToS; At this stage of the game, and given the relative ease with which one can create a HC account, I'm inclined to believe that they just don't care...

New Player Experience: Mastermind Edition
biostem replied to Lunar Ronin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
The problem, IMHO, is that no matter what macros are provided to the player, unless they actually understand how the commanded pet behavior actually impacts things like how and when your pets will attack, much less what bodyguard mode is. I'm all for adding attack defensive, follow defensive, and other such macros as options, (perhaps in the powers window that can be dragged to the actual power bar). In addition to this, I'd love to see some sort graphical representation or other such indicator when pets are in bodyguard mode and/or within supremacy range.- 8 replies

IIRC, when you go to level up and a power pick is available, you can select the power and click the (i) to see the power info in the left pane, without being locked into actually taking said power... EDIT: Just to clarify, if you want to see stats for a primary power, the info will be displayed in the central or right pane instead of the left one.

Before they made the improvewents to bane spiders, and even now if you want crab & bane builds but don't want the spider legs, this is a great combo!

I have a 50 katana/ninjitsu scrapper, (I kind of prefer the scrapper/sentinel version over stalker's), and with divine avalanche's short recharge time, I am nearly untouchable, (with the heal and end recovery powers being very useful to aid me in maintaining my assault and healing up any damage that does get through).
-
Try a titan weapon/ninjitsu scrapper - it takes a bit to get past the momentum mechanic, but once you do, it's an off the wall combo!

Well, many of electric affinity's powers need to chain off of friendly targets, and a MM always has those available. Farady cage also provides very good resists and status protection in a fixed AoE, which also greatly benefits all your pets without having to go through multiple applications or such...

I have at least 1 necro/elec MM that is quite good - named "Shock the Dead".

I think an argument could be made for ninjitsu, only he skipped the self healing & caltrops powers for some reason, and the blinding powder and smoke flash are uniquely linked to his teleportation ability, (BAMF's into a cloud of smoke and all that). Also he's like martial arts + broadsword, (using a rapier weapon model).

I'd say more likely energy aura, since he can absorb and redirect/utilize energy directed at him. As for the others, some are too specific or niche to fit into the CoH ATs that need to be broader in their utility. I mean, Archangel basically just has his wings and the quills/darts they can fire, (adamantium?). Professor X is basically just mind control, but not anything relating to telekinesis, (Jean Grey would be closer to that than him). Jubilee is like an energy or maybe radiation or a special case of luminous blasts from Kheldians, with like no secondary. Shadowcat basically only has phase shift, but can also phase other things/people and disrupt electronics if she phases into/through them, but that's it. Iceman would probably be an ice/ice sentinel with the ice mastery APP, (or some variant of ice/ice/ice/cold). CoH can't really emulate Rogue's power stealing ability, but if we look past that, she's a super strength/invuln scrapper, (maybe a tanker or brute?). Nightcrawler would basically just be a scrapper or stalker with heavy investment in the teleportation pool...

Earth themed control hero. Controller, dominator or tank?
biostem replied to NiklasWB's topic in Archetypes
What about an Earth/Cold or Earth/Radiation Controller? Both can be reasoned to be connected to the Earth in some way... -
I like to open fights with shockwave to knock enemies on their butts. I'll then either close the distance manually or use something like combat teleport to quickly get into melee range and push the advantage. Follow up is more about maintaining a deadly edge over your enemies and further advantaging you over your opponents. Focus is, IMO, great for runners or if you need that little bit of reach to get a particularly annoying enemy. Frankly, the powers recharge fast enough that you can simply keep the buff up from follow up then rotate between the harder-hitting attacks. My only pet peeve with the set is the longish animations of that one early attack that has you delivering 2 slashes, (swipe, I think), and the weird flip thingy you do with eviscerate.

I'm a big Fallout fan, (even before the TV show came out), and was debating how or if to bother trying to create a Vault Dweller here in CoH. The most obvious choice seems to be something like an AR/Dev blaster. AR/Traps could also work. Any other ideas?

Yeah... heaven forbid we hold people accountable to the terms of service that they agreed to. If they didn't read it, then that's on them. Being "generic'd" is far from the worst outcome they could face from such a violation, and perhaps it could be a learning moment for them. It'd be like thinking we need a big popup when you login saying "Now remember that you shouldn't use racial slurs, kiddos!"

Yes, but only in an extremely narrow and specific usage. If they're not an energy sword wielding force user clad in black or robes, you should be fine...

Found it in the ToS: "Infringing Content. Do not do anything in connection with the City of Heroes Services that infringes any copyright, trade mark, patent, trade secret, privacy, publicity, or other right of others, such as images, photographs, sound files, text files, graphics files, and any other material or information. You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Homecoming and its officers, employees, agents, affiliates, subcontractors, members and assigns, with respect to any and all claims, disputes, demands, actions, suits, damages, liabilities, obligations, losses, settlements, judgements, costs and expenses (including without limitation attorneys’ fees and costs) made or entered into against us that arise out of, relate to or are the result of your actions which misappropriate, violate or infringe any third-party Intellectual Property right or any other proprietary right."

Here's the important question - Are you looking for a simple emote, or are you looking for something that dynamically interacts with your character actually landing? The former would probably be way easier to implement...

Isn't *not* violating someone else's trademark/copyright somewhere in the ToS that every player agrees to when they create an account? If so, and if we agree that ignorance of the ToS isn't grounds to go on and break it, then why is this even a point to discuss? If you, personally, don't feel it is your responsibility to report such offenders, then you do you, but don't be surprised or offended when someone else does. That being said, there's no need to make a big showing about any violators you find in-game; Report them and move on...

**shrugs** I just dismiss and resummon/re-upgrade as needed. It's clunky, but it works...

I wanted to try for a sort of carbon-fiber look for this character's armor. I think "The Deceiver's Reticle", (Illusion/Arsenal Dominator), turned out rather nicely!

Infiltration... what the absolute frack is it?
biostem replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
For me, to invest those extra slots into infiltration, just to bring it up to par, is not worthwhile. I'd much rather take stealth then simply use fly along with it. Each to their own, of course, but something like ninja run + jump pack, (both being free), then taking *something else* in place of infiltration, is the best route to take, at least IMO. -

biostem replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
It was added to p!$$ you off, (which I'd say it's done successfully)... [Snarky checking if he's been detected or not...] On a more serious note, I've never bothered taking infiltration, other than to try it out. I'd rather the greater amount of concealment granted by the stealth power, and will use whatever other travel power I've taken, (also a big fan of fly, here).
