Here's a process I've tried a few times, and it's worked rather well; Since CoH is a fairly old game at this point, and if you either have a powerful computer or a second computer that can run the game at all, then create a "farming" account. Basically, just create something like a brute or scrapper, with some fast-recharging low level powers, (I find a claws/bio brute works great for this), athen have them team up with a character from your main account, and run tunnel missions in the AE. That'll allow you to get some quick levels, to get out of those "pre-key-powers" time in your character's career, so you can focus on the higher levels or those periods of your character's career that you find more enjoyable.

So, there are a few powersets in most ATs that allow you to reach ever so slightly beyond what that AT's typical role/gimmick is. We've all heard the stories or experienced it first hand where this approach doesn't work, but for this thread, I'd love to hear your stories about where it actually worked very well. For instance, I've seen some amazing gravity controllers who practically play like blasters. I've seen at least 1 claws stalker who managed to really take advantage of the ranged attacks in that set. What sort of "outliers" have you seen? Which unexpected combinations that extend/break the boundaries of, an AT's typical role, have you witnessed or uncovered? Thanks!

I think the first mistake the OP made was thinking that playing the AH/farming/focusing so heavily on IO sets was "the game". They're undoubtedly part of CoH, but to focus so much on them, seemingly to the detriment of everything else, is, well, self-destructive. If there's an aspect of the game you don't like, then don't play it, (or minimize it as much as possible). For instance, I dislike having to worry about my enhancements turning red, so I'll generally not bother slotting anything until I can craft level 25 IOs, then just stick with them until 50 or so. It may not be ideal, but it's a big headache that I no longer have to deal with. I dislike running out of end while playing, so I'll either take sets that have additional ways of recovering end, or I'll slot a few red redux enhs. My DPS may suffer, but to me it's more fun to have no downtime than to top the charts. Similarly, while I, as a general rule, won't abandon a team mid-mission, I will excuse myself from said team after it is complete, if one or more members is "toxic" or otherwise diminishing my play experience. If you insist on participating in a system that makes you miserable, (and let's keep this to games for this thread), then whose fault is it if you come away from the experience, miserable?

Seems like a small price to pay if you want "the fastest version possible". Of course, if you're willing to compromise, you can take flight and only slot it and swift with a flight IO or something to that effect. Self-imposed "must have's" is not anyone else's problem but your own... -

Not quite - steam jump and the jump pack are on timers and don't allow you to maintain a fixed position in the air. Beast run and Ninja Run are more of a combination of swift, hurdle, sprint, and CJ, locked into very specific, (and sometimes theme-breaking), animations. -

Just add a version of flight, SS, and teleport to the P2W vendor - unenhanceable and with a lower speed/range compared to their respective pool powers. Give these the same "mutually exclusive, 1st one free" treatment that ninja run and beast run have... -
I'm not disputing that at all. I'm simply saying that it isn't quite as difficult as it's made out to be. Additionally, if you are crafting multiples of the same IO, then you just change the x1 to whatever multiple you need...

Well, unless you're playing on a rather low resolution, you can easily have both windows open, see what salvage you're missing, then buy it and craft, without closing or moving anything. Now, what I'd like to see is a way to simply craft multiples of an item, (really more for the basic IOs than anything else)...

Well, I'd imagine since most people use the mouse to actually look around/turn, having A and D be the strafe keys is probably more useful as the "default".

So I checked the auction house, and the only 2 other +def/+res IOs I could find were for "recharge intensive pets", which explicitly say they cannot be slotted into MM pets... I'm using the 'Sovereign Right" and "Edict of Master" uniques ATM. Am I missing something? EDIT: I did a little more digging, and I found there are archetype-origin enh's that each provide the aforementioned auras...

Well, I use the mouse to look around and select stuff, but not for movement, per se; I basically do the "coarse" movements with WASD, and the fine turning/aiming/selecting with the mouse. As I did with the other person who stated they use the arrow keys - do you have both hands crammed together near the right side of the keyboard, or do you move the entire keyboard over to the left, so you have more space?

Personally, I really love gravity control. It's great, especially on controllers, since you can setup containment very easily, and you get extra damage from lift and propel vs targets affected by gravity distortion. As for a secondary - storm works very well, here. Of special note is freezing rain, as it is an AoE that applies a -def, -res, and some other nice debuffs. Just be aware that running both of these sets is very energy intensive, so don't overlook the end redux enh's! Cheers! -
Sorry for my ignorance - are you saying that there are 2 +def and 2 +res IOs that I can slot for my MM pets, in total? Thanks!

Gotcha. Yeah - it's not super obvious what the inherent is actually doing, and I have seen many people comment "why is there a crosshair under the enemy"...

What about going with a fire control/nature affinity controller? Between smoke and spore cloud, you'll have a bunch of -tohit going on. Take pacify from the presence pool if you want yet another way of ditching enemy attention, or maybe stealth and eventually misdirection from the concealment pool...
