MM pets should be at the same level as the MM
gameboy1234 replied to Weylin's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
My first 50 was a MM and this was before AoE buffs. You have no idea how many buffs I had to throw out at the start of each mission, even solo. (I was Bots/FF.) You kids are just weak these days. But perhaps for incarnate content the pets should get a level shift equal to the MM's level shift. That would at least make them not totally useless on incarnate content. (I'm not playing a MM now so I have no idea what the current incarnate content is like for MMs. I seem to recall that it sucked pretty hard on live. I switched to my tanker and my Fort for incarnate stuff after a while.) Other than that, take your damn leadership buffs kids. And slot pets like hell for accuracy. -
I was just watching an MMO channel on YouTube that I like. I posted a comment that they should do a video on City of Heroes and they replied back that they already have one in the works! (The channel is MMOByte if you want to check it out.) Suggestion: have new players start in the Galaxy City tutorial rather than giving them a choice of tutorial or none at all. If new players show up, the best content and the best early missions are gated along that path, so it would be best to start actual newbies there. You might want to consider requiring two or three new characters before allowing a choice to skip the tutorial and jump right into the game.

More Widow and Arachnos soldier uniform slots!
gameboy1234 replied to irishhawk's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Regardless of any assumed issues with coding this, +1. If we don't ask for stuff, that's the only way for sure we won't get it. Given that there's now a bunch of free help available I don't see why someone couldn't be asked to look at this again. -
LOVING the /roleplaying tag. But...
gameboy1234 replied to Ion_Burst's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I played around with colors and I think something like C4627A would be a decent pale red color to use. Let's see if I can get images to work. Old: https://imgur.com/PiTxTg0 New: https://imgur.com/Jk8HwTc Hmm, can't seem to get images to show up. Anyway, this was photoshopped on a character's name with purple text, so it's actually a bit darker than it would be if it were done with the text in game. Good luck devs. -

This is also a very cool idea, if it makes things easier. -

+42. I also totally agree that problem is that it's dark. I think there's a dark outline around name text so that it shows up with lighter colors like the default blues and greens, but the purple used is to similar to the outline and the result is blurry. I'd toss out that I'd prefer something a bit more muted than hot pink. Take pink and wash it out (lighten it or add white to make a tint), something like a pale rose color. OK that's it! Please make people in Pocket D readable, I have a tough time in there as well! -
I just got my Widow to 50 last weekend, so I thought I'd try a Night Widow build for her. Here's what I came up with. Critiques are welcome. Jazno feel free to compare mine and ask any questions. I played a Widow and Fort to 50 on live but it's been so long I think I've forgotten everything. Some of my stuff might be kinda random. Question for you: What does Mids show you for Defense for Melee, Ranged, and AOE without Mind Link (but with all other Def toggles turned on). Mine is 32%, 29% and 30% respectively. Let's see if this crazy thing works. (OK purple was not a good idea, let's try blue.) This. My first 50 on Live was a Bots mastermind, and I have no patience for folks who don't want to play a MM properly. I put tons of effort into making binds and using them, and understanding the AI and interactions of all my pets. If you're just goofing off by yourself, fine, but lordy don't inflict that nonsense on anyone else by asking to join a team. Right now I have two 50's and my slotting is totally random, almost. Both my builds need a serious once over and respec to fix. Now that Mids is working again I'll have a chance to do that, but there's no way I can figure stuff out without that program, my brain is just dumb. So I think my AT's are OK, but my power choices right now are pretty sad.

First lvl 50 - where to begin with end game build?
gameboy1234 replied to Meph's topic in General Discussion
Yup, I'd say in most cases (of a set mule) that's the idea. -

I'm a big fan of Super Speed + Super Jump, running both at the same time. No such thing as "too much speed." -
First lvl 50 - where to begin with end game build?
gameboy1234 replied to Meph's topic in General Discussion
Possibly: 1. Desperately trying to eek out as much Defense as possible. 2. Set mules. A lot of very important IO Sets go in powers with Def, and it doesn't matter how much Def. So these powers provide a place to put more Def Sets. -
First lvl 50 - where to begin with end game build?
gameboy1234 replied to Meph's topic in General Discussion
Not sure what Meph was trying to say, but Mids is a good idea. Mids = the program he used to generate that. You want to look at IO Sets, and you want to stack as much of X on your build as you can, where X is something you already have and getting more will make you harder to kill or do lots more damage. X is often things like: 1. Defense 2. Regeneration 3. Recharge Recharge may seem counter-intuitive but if you have a really good power, getting enough recharge to make it permanent or nearly permanent will make your build much much better. Get Hasten, three slot it for recharge, then see how much extra global recharge you can get through IO Sets to start making those good powers be available much much more often. -
This is a good thought. I was going to point out that Bots has a pretty fair amount of -regen once you get the Tier 3 pet, and pair it with traps is pretty strong and has -res. I wouldn't call this build "maximum dps" but it'll be pretty strong and useful for most content. The disadvantage is that you really have to manage your pets or you can be a hindrance or at least annoyance to your team.

Yes, not a bug per se, but it is a suggestion, so here goes. I think of all the things I see listed as needing a change, this is #1 for me personally. The whole concept of reserving a name and sitting on it is broken. And while I agree with the current policy allowing names to be taken by another if the character is inactive, I think the root cause here is that players really should be allowed to have the same name. That would fix it for everyone. No more being paranoid that someone will steal your name someday, and no more waiting around hoping that someone else will inadvertently relinquish the name you really want. That's about it, I can't think to add any more. There's quite a few folks who are volunteering in the Developers thread, and while I'm sure this is opening a can of giant-sized interstellar void worms, I think it's feasible with enough effort, and maybe some slight compromises in the client design. (I think if this goes through the /tell command is likely toast, it'll have to be a name picked off a menu.) Thanks.

Almost posted this in reply to the patch notes, but I think it actually should go here. Great patch overall, thanks so much for putting in the work to get these improvements done. Dual Pistols on my Corruptor, the targeted cone Empty Clips consistently shoots off to the right of where I'm aiming it. The targeted mobs are correct, the right mobs take damage, but the animation of the bullets pulls almost 90 degrees to the right. It's minor, but I thought I'd bring it up and maybe someone can take a look at it.

New Archetype speculation thread
gameboy1234 replied to Completist's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Fun thread. A friend on another forum recently ask for whip powers, or a binding archetype like Spiderman. The whip powers could be like a cowboy's bullwhip, or maybe like Zoro or The Spider (masked mystery man). With different sfx you could probably think of different ideas that might be a "whip." Maybe even some sort of psychic lash. Binding is probably a Dom or Controller. Could be a glue gun, some sort of spider power (we have Crabs in game), "tape" like what might be made by a machine, or even some sort of rope. Wild idea: tie a rope around a boomerang and use that to tie up opponents. -
I was on one of those big Incarnate raids recently, and while it mostly went smoothly the league leader had a heck of a time trying to move people around to different teams within the league. First the League got scrambled when we zoned into the Trial. This is pretty bogus and should really be fixed, there's no real reason for this to happen. Second once we were in the trial it was impossible for the league leader to rearrange people within the league. Some rearrangement was possible, but sometimes moving people to different teams would fail or some other problem would prevent it from happening smoothly. This is also pretty bogus and there's no real reason for stuff like this to happen. Don't mean to be too negative, overall SCORE and the Homecoming team are doing a great job. I realize these are problems that occurred when the code was still at Paragon Studios. Still would be nice to have the code fixed. Thanks!

Homecoming codebase and mission statement?
gameboy1234 replied to ThePhlebotomist's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Nemesis? Ha ha, yes, it is best idea that SCORE = Nemesis Plot. Now this needs to happen *in game.* -
All pets have a graphical upgrade when they get hit by the pet buffs. The pets look different when they've been buffed, so you can tell if they're upgraded just by looking at them. Robots get red lights, usually on their backs. The main bot gets a visible weapon upgrade. Wolves and zombies get auras and breath upgrades. Etc. Look carefully at your pets after upgrading so you can tell the difference. Actual suggestion: The default macros for controlling pets never use Defensive, and therefore never activate Bodyguard mode. The three macros are Attack Aggressive, Follow Aggressive, Follow Passive. The second one should be changed to "Follow Defensive" so that newbie masterminds can use Bodyguard mode. This goes for the icons on the pet window too.

Yep, just found them, thanks! 100 Merit per badge is pretty steep though.

We can buy anniversary badges with merits? How does that work? Do the regular merit vendors have them or do you get them elsewhere?

I decided to plan out a build because I have one character who is getting fairly high level. I located and installed Mids' OK but I can't seem to find how to access IO Set inventions to add IO Sets to my build. In fact all of the Enhancement options seem to be empty. Am I just missing something? I right-click on an empty power slot, and a dialog box comes up for Enhancements. I click on the IO Sets icon (far right choice) and then nothing comes up. Shouldn't the dialog box allow me to chose from available sets for that power? Do I have to select something further? The rest of the choices in the dialog are just blank. Any help is much appreciated!

"I Need Healing" - A Beginner's Guide to Defenders
gameboy1234 replied to Overclock's topic in Defender
I think this is a little misleading. You do need healing. Especially early in the game when no one has all of their powers, and the powers they do have aren't fully slotted up with IOs or other powerful Enhancements. You also need healing to minimize downtime and keep the XP flowing in. What you don't need is a "dedicated healer" or a "pure healer". In other games these are desirable and useful. In CoH as long as there's a couple of heals in the group you're probably good to go. Powersets with broader range of effects -- like Dark Miasma, Nature Affinity, Kinetics, Radiation, etc. -- are perfectly viable, and even far preferred in the end-game. In the early game a focused healer will be useful. Try to pay attention to your other powers though. Understand when it's better to prevent damage by using your secondary (or primary if Controller, Dom or Corr) so that your team has an easier time all the way around. Throwing green numbers around is basically hitting the panic button and admitting that the team messed up, so look for opportunities to prevent the damage from happening in the first place. This also means that as you level up, you should look at becoming less focused because as players level up they will need less and less healing. Concentrate more on your other powers, and understand how you can branch out as a player. What we don't need is someone who puts their healing aura on "auto" and assumes they're contributing. They're probably not. And don't be afraid to talk to your teammates, ask them questions and understand how they like to play the game. Some folks prefer to corner-pull, some like to wade into mobs and just fight them in place. There's advantages to both. Some folks are a lot more powerful when they have a certain power up, but that power might have a long recharge, so the team might need to be a little more careful once that power is used. Stuff like that helps you play the game, learn the game, and also play better with the particular group you're in.
