Can We Fix the /Search function?
gameboy1234 replied to Bionic_Flea's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I play a rogue frequently and all of the Red/Blue stuff gives me a nasty itch. Getting dumped from teams is no fun just because I teleported to my base or something. It's also a little unpredictable what will remove you from a team and what won't (going to a base is 50/50 for me). Yes, get rid of side specific search in the Find Member dialog, but also all the other side specific stuff needs an overhaul, esp. if it will dump you from a team or at TF. -
The animations look very Tai Chi to me, which I think is OK. I can see that some folks might want a little harder style, though, which is also OK.

The Philotic Knight's Buff Force Fields 1.0!

Being able to cancel DF early would make it more team friendly, even if nothing else was changed. Fair point. -

This is actually a good point, and gets back to the core problem with Detention Field: it's not team friendly. I personally can't remember the last time I've actually needed an AV taken out of a fight of while we dealt with the rest of the group. I think the whole idea of an "AV hold" may be us chasing the wrong shadow. So I think I'm back to "change Detention Field to a regular, small-AoE hold so that it's useful on small teams" because on large teams you're just not going to need it. -

So switching it to a hold would allow Elite Boss and AVs to be held if the Mag is high enough, right? And turning it into a Hold would require some tweaks, because it's not a straight hold. OK. Any DoT able to overcome AV regeneration is probably going to kill anything else it's applied to. -1000% regen would probably be a better choice. I personally think it should just be personal defense, with no fancy stuff. Stack it with Dispersion Field and you're good. But they've made some changes to it, and it now lets you attack, it just drops its defense for a while when you do attack. That's interesting (not sure how it plays though). Just tossing out ideas on Detention Field: One big AV hold would be great for AVs, but kinda suck for the rest of the game. OTOH a regular low-Mag AoE hold would be very useful in nearly any encounter and probably provide more utility and fun for most players. Why not both? Picking Detention Field give you two powers, one's a regular hold and one's an AV lockdown. Using one locks the other out for the duration of the power (recharge + cast time). This might be OP but again I thought I'd throw it out there. -

This is interesting, I wonder if some form of AV hold could be balanced. If a toggle (to shut it off) is added to Detention, then that plus an AV hold level might make it something worth taking. (I think if I was going to balance this, I'd go for hold resist; give DF enough mag to land on a AV, but then the full duration of the hold doesn't run, it gets resisted and the hold ends early. Then some enemies can be effectively immune by giving them enough hold resist, while other will at least see some effect and be held for a while). Personally I don't think adding damage to FF as a fix isn't going to do anything. Just like Defense, everyone else does damage better than what's being proposed here, and it again won't actually add anything to FF, it'll still be just as lackluster. I guess that means I'm on the side that says small tweaks aren't going to fix FF, and we need larger more drastic changes. I don't want a complete revamp, the powers that work should stay as they are. But the controversial or less picked powers might need bigger changes. I *would* be ok with the devs making small changes if they thought the change was going to be permanent, even if other powers got changes later (Detention Field I'm looking at you). -
That's along the lines I'm thinking of too. While not everything could be done in the costume creator, a lot could and we should take advantage of it. Some criticisms: 1. "Default is male." We should definitely be more inclusive and have female and ethnically diverse models. For role play, it might be good to allow a player to choose all male, all female or mixed minions (the leader of a girl-gang, for example). 2. Some minion sets already have more than three minions. Thugs has quite a bit of diversity actually, and Gang War adds a level of complication to customizing it. Some sets the third 1st Tier (the weakest tier) is special and looks different from the others. Need more than three models for these sets.

Difference between goals and software requirements: goals are defined as requirements without deadlines. So sure, getting that to work is a goal of CoH.

This is a good point. I wonder if we want to suggest ideas for how to customize the various sets. Like I agree that current zombies are kinda one sided and fantasy themed. I think perhaps the costume creator could be used to make more modern zombies with a "Shawn of the Dead" look, though the magic powers of the Lich would be a bit hard to explain. Demons: lots of demon girls (especially) and also demon boys in Pocket D, they seem popular. Again the costume creator might be used to create those kinds of demons. Oh, and Thugs: I really like the look of the Syndicate for Thugs. Would love to see some thugs with better fashion sense for my MMs.

Just a thinking out loud here, but what if we changed this system? Let's make Defense work more like the ED system, where you hit a soft cap and your defense is still limited, but adding larger amounts of Defense still gives some incremental improvement, even above 95% protection. Like, softcap Defense at 90%, but each 10% Defense over 100% actually adds 1% to that, until you hit 99.9% Defense. And remove the 1 in 20 auto hit, at least for players being hit by NPCs. (Depending, it might be kept for special NPCs, like AVs and Giant Monsters.) The Homecoming Devs might not want to do this for various reasons, but I thought I'd toss it out there. -
Yes, this unfortunately. But if we're wishing for ponies, MM customization is high on the list. I'd like to see some sets based on groups and ideas from the game itself. Like an Agent set, with guys and gals in black suits and martial arts and ray guns. Maybe another set with guys with longbows (isn't there a group like that in game? I think so, and I don't mean literally Longbow). Beasts needs a few other options, like a set with bears and stags or some such. Possibly other sets too, like I'm not opposed to making a Longbow and/or a Vanguard set. Really any group in the game (Arachnos, Car. of Shadows, Crey, etc.) might be appreciated by someone as a MM set.

Why did they turn off the winter Atlas Park decor?
gameboy1234 replied to InfamousBrad's topic in General Discussion
Realism: Face it, CoX was designed by people living in California. Winter is something that that happens to other people. We only get snow for exactly two weeks right around Christmas, and only shop windows. It can be easily tidied up over a weekend and put away for next year. All alien planets look exactly like Southern California chaparral, and all seasons consist of mostly nice with only occasional rain. -

gameboy1234 replied to _NOPE_'s topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think this is a good point. For me (Bots/FF) FF is just so darn passive. And that's because the only good powers back on live were the strictly defensive ones, the controls in FF kinda sucked for one reason or another. Fixing the control powers would be a first step I think (and sounds like they're already part way there). An absorb mechanic might be cool but I'd like to see a plan to fix the set first, then see where we're at. If all sets converge around one or two ideas (Absorb or -Res) then all sets are fundamentally the same, and I don't think that's a good thing. -

Hand-Mounted Assault and Beam Rifle Animations
gameboy1234 replied to That Ninja's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I like this, I've had the same suggestion for Sonic Attack and Sonic Resonance. A wrist mounted option would be great, so would a one handed pistol and a two handed rifle. These latter I think are already in the game, so it shouldn't be too crazy to add. Specifically for Sonic I'd like to see a different sound, I really hate the growling "I scream at them" sound and animation that's in game right now. A rock-and-roll guitar noise was suggested. I'd like to see a musical harp sound, and maybe some sort of electronic retro sci-fi "Buzzzaaaap!" sound. For sonic I'd also like to see some options for holding a musical instrument, but that's getting more art intensive right now. -
The Philotic Knight's Buff Force Fields 1.0!
gameboy1234 replied to _NOPE_'s topic in Suggestions & Feedback
The idea is that combining two powers into one is OK, since they basically do the same thing (I always thought it odd that FF had those two powers that seemed nearly identical.) One way to combine them would be just to put the KB and Repel effect into the same PBAoE power. I think that would work. The idea here is to free up one additional slot, so that we can add a whole new power without disturbing the rest of the set too much. Now that I think about it, we have powers now that add three powers for just one pick (Bio Armor does this, for ex.). With one new slot power in FF, we could add more than one power to the set. So a few more ways to spice up FF exist if we do that. -

Yup, I'd like something like this too. If Repulsion Bomb is now good and folks want to keep it, we can combine the two "Keep away" powers like I suggested earlier and just add a new power that does the implosion thing, but either way I'd like to see a "gather together" power that basically does the opposite of AoE KB. Gather a bunch of foe into one spot. -

Just saw this thread. I played a Bots/FF to 50 and beyond on live, and I may be biased a bit by having a primary that actually kills things, but here some thoughts by me. I didn't know about this change either, not sure how I feel about it (and I haven't played it). I'd just make PFF add a bit of +Def and that's it (maybe around +7% to +10% or so). It stacks with Dispersion Field and Leadership so you'd have to be careful to not go overboard. Maybe Ranged and AoE only, but not Melee. Done. Possibly this is a power MMs shouldn't get because they'd be too tough with it. I always liked the single target mitigation FB provided, it's a much more precision tool that Rep. Field. I also liked the -Fly in FB, that's very very handy (and a lot of folks don't know about, or maybe it was MMs only). Maybe make it do a bit more damage for a primary, as a MM secondary it's fine. Personally I would not change this at all. Just make it a regular hold. If the Homecoming wants they can keep the the "oh shit" aspect of it and make it a Mag 4 or Mag 4.5 hold on a super long timer. If not then just make it a Mag 2 or less hold on a regular timer, maybe even give it a small Targeted AoE effect to hold a small group. On live this just did KB I think and I dropped it fast. If it does damage and KD it feels fine to me. Upping the damage a bit would be nice but MMs do damage already, however AoE mitigation is always appreciated. These two I never played with much, mostly because I already had a wall of metal to stand behind. What I personally would really like is an AoE power (not PBAoE) that gathers all enemies together. Basically the reverse of AoE KB. All mobs in the effect range get yoinked towards the center of the AoE effect. This would be very handy and I think unique in the game and it would make the FF set truly distinct and sought after. I think what I would do is combine Rep. Field and Force Bub. into ONE power that does ALL the "Keep away from me" and then add a new AoE (not PBAoE!!) that does the gather together thing. Just my two Inf. Other powers that you identify as fine are also fine with me. Good luck to everyone on getting some improvements for FF! -
I like the idea of a harder game. However I think I'd like to not change the game we have now too, a lot of folks are very comfortable with how it plays. So if anything changes, what I'd propose is a new "hard mode" server where folks can try out the harder game but aren't required to play it. They can return to the easier servers at any time. How this works with the Homecoming team and financials, I don't know. Folks would have to figure that out, it may or may not be possible. But I think it would the best way to approach making the game harder.

A “Call for Help” Difficulty Option
gameboy1234 replied to Myrmidon's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This is copied straight from the original Everquest: "Runners" in EQ used to fetch help. You could develop huge trains this way. In EQ it was crucial to stop runners before they got to a second group because they'd cascade: now with more mobs it's even harder to catch the low hp runners, who fan out and bring more, who then cascade onto you. So I'd add that mechanic: runners who take off at low HP have a small pbaoe "taunt" that transfers their hate-list to any mobs they run past. Such new mobs will then proceed to attack (and move towards) the players they now hate. To prevent this from being completely off the hook, when a runner gets enough friends ("enough" being left to AI programmers and balance) it stops being afraid and also returns to fight the players. -
Bio Armor isn't as customizable as I'd like. The Adaptation armors -- Efficient Adaptation, Defensive Adaptation, Offensive Adaptation -- are only tintable and I'd like them to also support the Minimal FX option (i.e., no FX at all). Likewise Ablative Carapace seems to require an actual Carapace graphic and is only color tintable -- would like this to display basically nothing at all. And the armors after that -- Evlovling Armor, DNA Siphon, Genetic Contamination, and Parasite Aura -- could all use a minimal FX or at least tone down the SFX by a lot. The first three armors in the set -- at least on a brute -- seem to support a decent minimal FX option (those are Hardened Carapace and, Inexhaustible and Environmental Modification).

I vote on this yesterday. I wonder if voting twice breaks any laws? Seems to work...

Runescape was still at 23% when I voted but CoH was up to 20%. We're solidly just behind the front runner.
