Have you whitelisted the folder through your antivirus? Another thing might be the external hard drive....I have my game in C:/CoH and it works fine. I know there are some pathing issues and read-only folders so avoid those too. Good luck! Edit: didn't as about your OS...that might be an issue as well. -
I make most of my girls 'natural' origin because it makes my head hurt to try to figure out the differences between natural and mutation or technology and science. That being said, my stories are all over the place. If I am forced to add Sky to a name (because otherwise its taken) then that character becomes an alternate form of EmmySky (time travelling or alternate dimension or something). I guess I usually lean on something happening to the character that made them powerful and/or catapulted them into heroism as a career/hobby. But even at that, its all over the place lol

When I hit upon a name I want but its taken, I add Sky to the end and make them alternate versions of EmmySky (SunshineSky, PrestigeSky, SpitfireSky). This serves to confuse people when I am on a toon that has no Sky (Saga of Souls, TankYou, Sinnocence).

Okay, to be fair, I left the game in 2010 so didnt know about the later arcs you mention. My current villain (1 out of 39 toons) is level 22ish, so maybe she will experience all that. I think your last paragraph really hit on something key. Blueside has a lot of "saving the world" which is very big in scope and lets you feel heroic even as a baby hero just learning your powers. Maybe that is power trippy (I have never been accused of being power trippy before lol) but it really seems to deliver on the City of Heroes theme. Redside, they have you serving someone else's goals, and even if the goal is to take over the world ("what we gonna do today, Brain?") you never actually get to be the one in control of the world. Again, I dont even know how that would even begin to be coded so its really more a limitation of the technology and implementation than of the game itself (would be easy in PnP). There has to be a hard-coded agency at work, and for an MMO, that can't realistically be recoded for every player to see themself as taking over the world. But it can (and is) coded for every player to see themself as saving the world.

Poor choice of words on my part, my apologies (not high just in pain, I seem to have thrown out my back). I meant you have a villain and a few levels of lackies. The right-hand man, the right-hand mans right-hand man, and some basic morons who do the grunt work like digging graves or mixing cement. You may also have a left-hand man for the super secret plot nobody know about but that will pop up eventually to spoil the best laid plans of the heroes who are bent on taking you down. So I guess I meant levels like a hierarchy. More of those different levels in heroism is what I was trying to say. Words are hard.

I just want to take a moment on what you call hypocrisy concerning different expectations for each side. If Superman were running down the street, he would stop a mugging in progress if he saw it. He would get the kitty out of the tree for the little old lady. No job too small because the heart of a hero compels them to be helpful. There are so many levels of heroism that you can explore with blueside. Do you think you would see Lex Luthor running errands for Lord Recluse, much less some of the really low level folks you end up working for redside? Most people want to be THE villain, not just a lackey to the villain. There are fewer shades of grey in villain 'culture' than in heroism. Even if you are happy with the role of lackey, eventually you want to rule it all. This is not allowed redside. You are forever a mere henchman. When do I get to take LRs head and mount it on my wall to strike fear into those who should fear me? The game is based on comic books and while I am FAR from an expert on comic books, even I know that there are heroes who do great deeds and heroes doing lesser deeds all the way down to the heroes who merely get a kitty out of a tree, but that there are very rarely villains that are content to remain lackeys or henchman to a greater power and those that are usually are portrayed as...well...three fries short of a happy meal. It isn't hypocrisy to have different expectations from games that promise different things. City of Heroes promises I can be a hero and I can be a hero. City of Villains promises me I can be a villain but really only allows me to be a henchmen for others. Because game code (especially at the time) would be very hard to bend to allowing great player agency so players can really be their own super villain ruling the world, I dont see this as a failing of the game, just a limitation of tools available.

For me, it is not as aesthetically appealing as blueside and, if you read and pay attention to the missions and arcs, player agency is low as you are treated (a great deal) as a lackey rather than a force with which to be reckoned. Also, I like feeling heroic and I dislike feeling villainous (unless I have had a bad day at work lol). There are times on blueside where you are treated as a lackey (getting that damn book or cloak for Azuria for the billionth time because apparently she is homeless and has nowhere to store such priceless items) but by and large people are seeking your help to do something because you are super. I am currently running a villain and it is not as grim (your poll word) as I seem to recall. I dont read the mission text much beyond 'go to x defeat y get z' so the lackey bits are not as bad. There is also the horrible terrain that is hard to navigate at certain levels when, by choice or design, you dont have access to certain powers (like travel or stealth or defences). I read your suggestion thread and I dont think extra inf or xp will solve the issue. I think making all zones intermingle where heroes may have a mission door reside and villains might have a mission door blueside might be a way to make the zones feel more used. I mean, whether you are hero or villain, it makes sense to take the fight to the enemy and not just fight them on the 'home turf'. Happy hunting!

I remember tanks saying wait here and the rest of the team ignoring that and working as a team to defeat the room/map. My ex-husband was terrible at reading the chat and at typing in chat so I always acted as interpreter. Usually I would notice his blaster halfway into the room behind the tank and I would say "oh hey but tank said...screw it" then type to the team that we were going in. If you dont like herding...my advice is hire a blaster who doesnt read chat 😝

Honestly thought this was WAI as it has always been this way. My first toon back in 04 was an energy defender....lots of caves...which begs the question....bug or feature? 😝

After today's patch, I find myself able to walk straight through some Outcasts in Steel Canyon. There doesnt seem to be rhyme or reason to when I can or cannot, it can happen with bosses, LTs and minions, but they are just as likely to be 'solid' so I cant walk through them. They are all still able to be attacked and defeated. Just for completeness...I am on a level 15 stalker, staff fighting and ninjitsu, and she is using the three toggles: hide, ninja reflexes and danger sense. @EmmySky, Indomitable shard, Ramifications toon name. Edit: confirmed with folks on discord it isnt just me but also seems a harmless bug

This is why I have a spreadsheet with my toons, origin and AT, powersets primary and secondary, face #, hair style and color and their signature color(s) for costume. No repeats lol

Sometimes I go to bed after base building and dream of ways to build it better. Last week I was making my third batch of characters and found myself planning out their paths (so-and-so will street sweep, whos-it will Hollows, that one will KR) while I was supposed to be drifting off to sleep. Its an addiction, man, and I need my hit!

It hasnt always been bugged as I remember distinctly defeating the BP ambushes and wondering why it didnt finish, had to go back up and defeat a leader I had overlooked. That was back in November or maybe early December.

One I just learned last night (credit to Twisted Visage) is /monitorattribute influence All my toons have their influence showing right under the target box so I added this slash command to my load key for bindfile, windows, chat and options so basically I make a new toon and hit one button and everything is where I like it.
