I did this recently on a katana/willpower brute. Brute for damage from fury, katana for divine avalanche and a solid low level attack chain, and willpower for endurance. It worked quite well. After hitting 20 I turned off XP and proceeded to run all the blue side and red side content I could as well. I still pull him out sometimes to play low level stuff.

The current crafting system is pointless.
Shred Monkey replied to Galactiman's topic in General Discussion
I agree a little with the OP. The crafting system in this game is nothing like what I want in a crafting system. All drops are random so there's no method of harvesting components or recipes it's just luck of the draw, craft and sell, then buy what you actually need. I wouldn't say it's pointless. I just don't consider it a selling point of this game. Quite the opposite in fact. One of the original selling points of this game was the fact that it's not a loot-focused game, for those who prefer not to mess with gear and crafting systems. -
Energy/Temporal build - Missing 1.5% ranged defense
Shred Monkey replied to Lyrium's topic in Blaster
You'd lose some recharge and the knockback/to knockdown but you could slot 6 artillery in energy torrent. Or maybe look at reactive armor instead of unbreakable guard in your resist powers. -
This is all true. I always look on the AH for all my enhancements. BUT... sometimes some ATO's are readily available on the market. Even if they're listed, they're not always listed at the 10M inf price range. In those cases, I use merits.

I feel dirty just going to the AE building. Removing xp from AE would probably make using it for real more attractive to me. When AE first came out, I was shocked they awarded XP because custom PL farms are such an obvious result. However, I've long since stopped caring about that subject. That said. I think AE babies are a myth. Some people are just less competent for a variety of reasons. AE farms are often involved, but they're not the root cause.

Travel Powers - Some Better, Some Much Worse
Shred Monkey replied to Troo's topic in General Discussion
I agree that superjump just doesn't work for me. I use infiltration and combat jumping on most toons. I actually have super jump on a toon because I needed a 2nd power to get to acrobatics and used SJ as a mule, but never bothered putting super jump into my power tray. -
When I clicked on this thread my mind was thinking "Illusionary melee"... interesting... like just a bunch of fake punches but never actually hitting anything or doing any real damage. So basically Kinetic Melee.
-
It's a little known fact that this game actually has Spiderman-like web powers, but the toons can't make the hand gestures to use them.

I solo a lot and PUG a lot. Pretty much always 8-man teams, but I would prefer smaller teams set for 8-man at whatever the highest level difficulty you can handle is. Not just because the game is "too easy," but because I think it's a more satisfying game when your contribution is actually noticeable. I often tell myself I should to start forming 3-5 man TF runs... but then I log in and end up doing something else.

Graphics: how far would you take it?
Shred Monkey replied to Techwright's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I wouldn't want graphics improve to photo realism. I'd want the graphics improved to comic style anime level quality. Think Arcane not Avengers. -
I was going to say this one. Intentionally trolling a "Master of" badge attempt. Not quite as bad, but I have a pet peeve about people who stealth the final mission of a TF and kill the final boss before everyone gets there.

I confess, I haven't followed this discussion at all. But since I clicked on the topic and got sucked and I thought about how I would do this if I were the type of guy who does this stuff. (I'm not that kind of guy, but I like a good puzzle) He's what I'd do: 1. Download a bot program that replicates clicks on the screen. (I've never done it for CoH, but I've done it in other games). 2. Teach script A to bid a hair over 10K for 10 yellow salvage. Teach script B to get purchases from the AH. And teach Script C program to delete my salvage. 3. Set up a timer to trigger script B, then C, then A every 15 minutes or so (I'll would tweak the time later). 4. Start with a 10 stacks of bids as a buffer, start the timer, and go AFK. If I felt real nasty, I'd also have a 2nd account for afk farming inf and mailing it to the 1st account, then and add script D to collect the inf I mailed myself. I've also never AFK farmed, but I wouldn't be surprised if one farmer could keep up with the yellow salvage market.

Melee Archetypes - Same sets, different performance?
Shred Monkey replied to KnaveOfSwords's topic in Archetypes
I agree about claws being crap on stalkers. One of claws' strengths is it's AoE capabilities, which didn't port to stalkers at all. Even the stalker version of eviscerate is ST instead of a cone. I have both a Claws/SR stalker and a Spines/SR stalker. I actually prefer the Spines/SR. The base damage is meh, but it procs assassin's focus a ton with all those AoE attacks. Claws on the other hand loses a lot and gets nothing in return from being on a stalker. -
I need to revise this... because at the time I posted it, I was totally into my newly full-built nightwidow and the amazing ST damage he puts out. But then, for no particular reason, I logged into my seismic/martial blaster and re-discovered the unholy mother buckets of damage he puts out without ever really being in any serious danger. I don't think I've logged into my nightwidow since.

1 hour and 25 minutes isn't a team run.

Non-melee ATs that can afford to have mobs in melee range
Shred Monkey replied to Prof Evbof's topic in Archetypes
Don't forget, unlike many MMORPGs... we have super powers. You can be a ranged toon and not kite because we can FLY!... (or hover). Hover-blasting is a quite popular playstyle. -
I dump way more then I buy... keep doing what you're doing.
-
I want to add one more thing to this discussion. I've played hover blasters. I had one solo pretty much everything that can be solo'd in the game a few years ago. It's ridiculously powerful to be above and out of so much potential incoming damage. However, my latest favorite toon is my seismic/martial blaster who actually has to stay on the ground for several of his powers and their effects to work. I used all ranged attacks, but hover-blasting is not an option. I still stay out of melee by doing this back pedal "stick-and-move" dance. It's skill-based power instead of build-based (although Reaction Time slotted fto enhance it's slowed movement is quite helpful). I still handle 54x8 Arachnos, Longbow, Carnies and PPD. But instead of floating above it and watching them run around like ants trying to get to me, I run around the ground weaving around and between them, staying just one step ahead until they run out of hp. I find this adds more excitement and enjoyment to the game. I still have ridiculous power... but, imho, it's a lot more fun.
-
What makes hover important isn't the air control, or the defense. It's the low endurance cost compared to running a travel power. If you have the spare endurance to run mystic flight all the time, then you'll be ok, but that's probably endurance you should be using to run something else. As others have mentioned, if the choice is stealth vs hover: it's pretty clear to keep hover because everything stealth gives can be easily replaced, but with hover you get to keep flying.

I like where you're going with this, but Auroa Borealis saying nice things to me would be better in so many ways.
-
Of course he seems like a good guy... but then again look at the choice he just made to leave the temple and travel with Mando. It's possible this might go a different way.
-
But we do have Martial Arts (including alternate animations), Energy Melee, Electric Melee, and Street Justice that could be to represent a being with super strength. Even Mace, Titan Weapons, Broadsword and Axe could be weapons wielded by beings with super strength. I don't see why people get caught up on the name of the set. Is it just that you want to use foot stomp without being angry?
-
They need to hurry up. I had to sit through a 90-minute training session about "work life balance" this morning without the ability to play CoH on one of my other screens. (Yes. There's something deliciously ironic about gaming during a work-mandated training session about work-life balance.)
