I don't know how I feel about the OP's initial post, or the interaction I'm quoting from, but I do agree with Zewks that this MMO - as with all MMOs - is quite overwhelming for newer players (yes, there are some) or at least players who left before certain things were introduced/changed. Just yesterday I saw someone in general saying "so is Galaxy city just gone now?!". Two days ago I teamed with a vet 35 with no IOs or incarnate powers, after chatting about their toon and things they might find helpful after they admitted to not understanding it as they'd left before, so I sent them the guide for incarnate stuff from the forums. So if we don't change boosters, what would people recommend was changed to help new/returning player re/learn the ropes?

I’m always sad when reading about people leaving. I quit live CoH because I felt “what more can I do now?” But here I am. I go through phases of needing breaks. I had a while where I played it as intently as one had to on live to amass enough inf to buy 1 purp recipe, but I could afford to deck out three sub-30 alts. Take breaks, come back, refresh your patience, we don’t need to burn the oil for 4 hours at a time anymore. It really helps. This game wasn’t perfect on live, it isn’t perfect here on HC, and it probably isn’t on the other servers. But I’ll try to not log on and poop on someone else’s parade. Each to their own I guess. Think this is our first forum argument of 2023, how exciting!

I've always felt a bit... disappointed in the stone look? One of my first alts on live was a huge toon with the stone effect and I always felt it was just so ugly. But I was 13 and didn't understand stone armour or melee and builds. This, however, looks banging. Love the mixture with the regal clothing. I might steal make a homage to it on my Stone/Ice tank "Ground Frost".

1. Love playing against DE, Wyvern, Longbow, Monsters of Ig, the shivans, any of the mobs in First or Night ward, PPD, Rogue PPD, Arachnoids. 2. The Vanguard missions in RWZ have really slowed down my completion of those arcs, uggggghhhh. Malta, obvs. 3. Best lore... I really like the simplicity of Vahz, the circular story telling of having snakes at the start and the end, DE lore is grand, Arachnoid lore is 👌 4. The Rulu-Shin definitely need to be proliferated out more and get a little more story. Their costumes are great too. They could be used to help introduce the concept of the shadow shard much earlier on, say in the mid-30s. Also the Luddites, I think there is much more than could be done with them. They're a group of - essentially - docile sheep that could be pushed towards more conspiratorial thinking. Say they rebuilt Boomtown with a big power plant, or a platform to the moon, have the luddites there protesting against it. GIVE US MORE FREAKLOK. 5. For tweaks, I think the boss level nictus-infused council members should be able to form shift, I'd also like the council to do more in CoV in terms of experiments. The PPD Peacebringers have always interested me... You get the impression that the numbers are low, yet we have enough to fill out police stations, streets, offices and squads of cops. I've mentioned it a couple of times before in other posts, but would love an arc where you find out LB/Wyvern used old council tech and scientists - think Operation Paperclip - to make them. Hard agree with @PoptartsNinjaon the CoHFreaks and CoVFreaks. They clearly tried to make it a thing by having the freak arc in sharkhead where they get to be a bit magic I think? And more Rikti? But I really think there should be a distinction when you're on a CoV freak mission. That you fight those freaks altered by the story you've previously seen. Or they have unique powers/costumes because of how they've salvaged kit, e.g. Freakshow Spider with robot legs on the back because there's more arach tech around.

I agree on these points. Cosmic isn’t my bag. As a comics reader, give me street level/ corporation level over space. The sinister six/ most recent devil reign stuff is good in marvel. In a way, I always felt like the best lore in CoH had been told much before we ever began able to play? Nemesis becoming Emperor is a good example. Now Nemesis don’t really seem a threat. I had hoped that Ouro would let us see some of those big stories more. Imagine if we could be a part of the first Rikti invasion. The letters from the cape mission time capsule thing are great bits of lore. One of them is beautifully written, a hero going to the homeworld who never told her husband who she was and how he’d wake up the next day never knowing. I’d love to give them a happy ending. I think Rebirth’s new thing is Blue steely 👀 if you’ve seen the trailer.

I liked the challenge! Coordinate with the team, survive the onslaught, fight an interesting enemy group… sounds pretty fun. The closest I’ve found to the chaos of the Cyst shards is the spells missions in FW/NW.

I think I have only six 50s? And I rarely play half of them. The PB, the dom, and the kin corr are basically it. The rad armour tank was cos I’d never played it, realised it was great, so thought “I wonder if I can make as unkillable a brute” and made the fire/rad armour brute [it is as unkillable]. The plant controller was remade as the dom, after falling in love with a teammate’s and realising how much cheaper it was on HC to get permadom. The kin corr was cos I wanted to see the fuss about water. Lobstar, wherever you are now, had an amazing PB. They had a golden coloured tri-form and I was in awe cos it was so good. I absolutely hated kheldians on live, now they’re my mains. Every 3 months I try and make a Time toon, a dark affinity controller, try and use Shield defence again, or try and pick up something that’s been tinkered with by the devs. I don’t know how some of your have hundreds of 50s - I don’t have the imagination for so many costumes!

I recently did an ITF with an empathy MM so bad three of my teammates genuinely didn't know we had a buffer, over a debuffer, until the third mission. Absolutely zero healing or buffs. I quote "we have an empathy toon?!".

Just gonna put it out there and say I love PuG positrons and always run them on +1, sometimes +2 cos I’m a glutton for punishment. Just takes co-ordination and - as @MoonSheep alluded to - people actually reading the chat box. “Don’t go to the steps” being a prime example. I’m sorry you didn’t have the best time but “new people not knowing what they’re doing” excites me a bit. New players is a good thing. It is a shame they didn’t take your direction about how to get to Faultline @Snarky. This reminds me to continue asking “does everyone know how to get there?!”. We tried to duo a x8 posi 1 before and found out the hard way it multiplied my nature corr by 4, the +regen was ridiculous and we had to insp up hard. As an aside, on the copy/paste front… lots of employers are now finding that potential employees under about 21 can’t copy/paste or ctrl c/ ctrl p because their only experience on tech is from tablets where those functions aren’t used. I’ll find the study on it and edit if people are interested..
