issue 27 Focused Feedback: Symphony Control
High_Beam replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Yeah to add to this, Symphony Control sounds clumsy (see what I did there, SOUNDS clumsy), maybe Symphonic Control. Initial testing on server also has me trying to figure out what noise the noises I am making are supposed to be because they definitely don't sound Symphony (or Symphonic), or even marginally musical . . . more like mumble-rap meets death-metal growl but from a Tenor. I will continue testing to get a feel on what the sounds are and if they get better with other powers as my initial was on playability at the 1-20 level range -

High_Beam replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I am so pleased with everything I am seeing here. Obviously there are some items that were high on my list, like sheathed weapons and I am looking forward to working the new musical madness awesome power of controliness. Plus its going to be awesome listening to a certain portion of the player base lose their minds and scream nerf and the end of days for the player base. How bout a little fire scarecrow! -

Its been so fun listening to the Doomsayers lose their minds in chat yesterday afternoon about impact on farming. I am excited for my back sheaths and musical control and badges and the fun of experiencing the new stuff. -
Arachnos Flier (Flyer) - Heat Seeker badge
High_Beam replied to Turric's topic in General Discussion
That's is how I got mine on several characters. -
Also don't forget that true Orangebans are like 15,000 (roughly) years old.

This is spot on. The first time I did Hess on Live was with the other Babes of War and it was just real super hero stuff. I mean we just stood around yelling "giant robot surrounded by lava" doing dance emotes. And we totally thought we were going to die if we didnt get out.

Synapse isn't bad when you remember the OG Positron, granted a super speed hero asking me to run around Steel Canyon patrolling seems . . . dumb. Its parts of certain TFs I despise really that keep me away, like the "go to hunt in every zone" of Numina; go once for the badge and never go again. As for done most often, Posi 1 an 2 because every alt I create does them and does them with a PUG for extra fun and frolic, every one so that's like 50 runs of those. I also run Yin a lot because crazy Freakshow smashfest without the tedious zone hopping. But I have also done OG Positron in Ouroboros like ten or more times on HC because merits.

Good information but I am gonna try and avoid testing that one 🙂

I hear you man, I have a quad bypass and would take my 40 year old body even.

I have only PL'd one character ever and its been here on Homecoming; some fire thing in AE. Now this is not an attempt to seem above anything or whatever. It was for a specific Supergroup Event that required a specific type of toon and it was optional and I did it so yeah. Since that event that character has been sitting there collecting dust. This is not an attack on people who PL; do as you see fit. But for me the act of running the character up, doing the missions, learning how to use the powers and more importantly learning if the character is going to be fun is why I don't get into PL; I don't feel a sense of ownership. Bill Z brought up the aspect of the ones you go back to and those you could lose with no sweat. With me it seems that level 24 is the break point between weather I like or not. Unfortunately, until recently I deleted a lot of characters who just weren't getting it done for me on an enjoyment level, only to create a new one with similar powers to "try again". I hadn't even thought to use the test server to see where my enjoyment factor broke out. But I recently started which allows me to test at 30. just before your Tier 9 because up until then you are using your bread and butter powers and generally comprise the majority of your abilities. Then 40 where you can see how much fun you are having getting your buttocks handed to you by the heavies (or not). And at 50, fugghedabout. In doing so like has already been said I could stack all those pricey enhancements to see how kitted out I could make a character. While you aren't doing a lot of team testing, if you are having fun solo then you should be having fun on a team. There are plenty of uber toons that still aren't fun. I would never have stuck it out with an Illusion/Kinetics troller because even after PA but before Fulcrum, it was slow and painful and to be honest not fun. But test allowed me to trick it out to see how fun she was going to be. Late bloomers and all. So in a way, we are all time travelling to the future to see what will be then coming back and setting out on the journey and in knowing how we are going to be when we grow up helps us enjoy those journey moments even all the more; plus allows us to avoid the bad dates and broken hearts parts (I am pointing at you Shining Stars story arcs . . . except you Flambeaux, you are my bff, totally). PL is about skipping the journey and figuring out what you want to be after you have already grown up. If that works for you then groovy.

For me, the Hollows annoys the crud out of me like Faultline but with less interesting story. Flux and Frostfire, I only care about the badge so as soon as that's done, I am gonski, but I make no bones about it, the cats that call for help I let them know that I am only there for it; and that is when I am not flashbacking it solo. Now if a dude calls for a mission running team that involves more than a specific mission and I am down with that, then I am not jumping. And that is the key, a lot of the Frostfire teams are advertised as Frostfire teams and conversely that is the assumption, Frostfire and out. Hollows Missions, Unlock Caverns would be a better advertisement to maybe get others to stay, I mean a full team smashing the Defeat Atta mission would probably be a blast for a skilled lowbie/exemped team.

But seriously, why was it moved? Was there a story reason, or what?

I like the changes to the pets in Mercs there. Troops moving into melee range was quite simply contrary to what they were supposed to be; removal of melee alone and replaced with some low yield range power would make Mercs better, Bayonet charges are just not a thing any more. Spinning the medic off as a separate things I like as he cannot attack which makes him essentially a buff power or a different take on the Hell On Earth, Gang War separate pet summons. I am not so keen on the whole Commando summoning soldiers, I would rather he get more shoot in his arsenal. But yeah. As for customization of looks, I agree with pretty much everyone in this thread about not tying it to costumes (though I am not a costume person) and it not being kluged together.

Soldier. Why, because he was my first and you always remember your first even if you are disappointed by their performance.

So Like Snarky this is also my experience. Back on live on Freedom I was in the Babes of War and for the majority of those years its was what you would want. Consistent teams, ability to do difficult content, plus friendship, camaraderie and fun. I mean there was a point were 8 or nine of us from the DC/NORVA/MD area met up in Baltimore, had a great lunch talking about game and RL and drank beers and got silly. In-game there was the playing of the game but also the simple silly things like chatting and cracking wise for 30 minutes before jumping to smash the Envoy of Shadows. However the last year of live was not fun. Total Drama Island erupted in the group and there was a metric ton of un-cool stuff happening and by this time I was one of the leaders of the group so I had to spend most of my time sorting out the stupid, breaking up fights and trying to keep the group together. I ceased being fun and conversely I ceased teaming. I would log on and deal with issues then I would hide so I wouldn't be spotted and I PUGged a lot because I still wanted to play but I couldn't stand a lot of my SG Mates. I created a second account so I could play without being recognized. Yet I also felt bad and missed my few friends that were still playing. Then the game was shut down and I moved on, at first a few of us went to Champions Online but that game sucks once you leave character creation. I got an E-Mail or two from certain members of the group asking how things were. The that stopped shortly thereafter, we moved on. When I found out about the SCoRE servers and then Homecoming I immediately came back and made core promises to myself; to do the good things I did on live and not do the bad things. So I embraced archetypes I hated back in the day (mostly melee types), I PUGged as much as possible and didn't get twisted about semi-sucky teams (Sucky teams still get a full barrel), I don't obsess over badges (too much) because they used to lead to me getting mad when the badge getting failed. And as a whole, the experience was good. But the social aspect was missing and that is an important element. I don't mean standing around in Atlas Park for an hour chatting in General making comments (though it has its place) I mean running around fighting bad guys and in those few seconds or minutes in between making a witty remark, or responding to someone's witty remark or congratulating someone leveling or just hearing someone say anything that isn't a spam rant. Like Snarky I found a SG on Excelsior, the Girls of Nukem High and I am a happy player because of it. They remind me of the good things of the SG I was in on live yet aren't them so its like being young in the game again. We have scheduled fun events (though not as many as Snarky's group) and whenever I am on I am guaranteed to find a group of Nukems and their allies on who I can immediately team with and I always have fun. We sock evil in the eye and make jokes and have fun. I eventually also joined another SG at the same time, a pirate themed SG comprised mostly of members from Nukem or other SGs we are allies with (here are like 8 I think) and we just run around doing missions and acting piratey because its fun. Do I still PUG? Yes because sometimes you aren't going to get someone who wants to run through a specific Task Force again with me just because I have yet another alt I am running up and they just want to finish their main. But almost every night I get a solid three hours in of just SG/Ally fun. Find a SG because the worst thing that can happen is you don't like it yet you have lost nothing. But you might find one that sticks. PUGs aren't evil, they just aren't as good as SG teams. Remember the Suicide Squad are essentially a PUG, they are forced to team up because of circumstances and most wouldn't care if you were on fire. The Justice League is a SG because they want to be.

For the record, older is generally better with regards to most things. But its not about the way things used to be, get off my lawn kind of nostalgia. It's about experience and enough time having passed to allow lessons to be learned, kinks to be worked out and a better, final product delivered. New software comes out and there may be bugs, but over time as it gets older (mature), is becomes stable and people become accustomed to it. That is why when the new comes out there is so much push back. It applies to everything; games, people, politics. Older is better but also means listening and learning about the new in order to improve. New becomes old real quick, ask MySpace, or Facebook, or in a few years Twitter, they were all toys of the young but soon became tools of the old.

That was my signature character High Beam. And zero melee powers taken to boot! OMG now I have to re-roll my beloved cliche.

On a related note, Cheesecake Factory is a terrible place to eat anything at.

I only update to a new OS when I absolutely have no other choice; as in a significant piece of software I need to use is incapable of running on the machine(s) I have.

Oh my, sir or maam you just made my day and me a little bit tingly thinking about my Demon/Dark MM and the changes I am gonna make 🙂
