I used to work in a building that I swear was designed by Paragon City architects. It used to be 3 buildings that were somehow merged into one with some additional construction. And I had to enter thru the middle building, even though I worked in one of the outer buildings. Up the stairs from the lobby to the 2nd floor. Then turn about 145 degrees left for 20 yds or so. Bear right about 25 degrees, even though the hall continued straight. Pass a large training room and break area, continue on for another 20 yds or so, then turn about 160 degrees right, go 5 yds and then 90 degrees left thru a door to another hall... I don't recall the details from there, it's been a couple of years, but the rest of the route is no less Byzantine than the first part.

I hear ya. The whole 3 salvage bucket thing put a pretty big crimp in people trying to flip salvage. I'd love to see something along the lines of if you buy an IO from the market you can't resell it until you've had it slotted for 365 days. And if you buy a recipe from the market you can't resell it at all, you have to craft it to relist it.

No one's referring to what you do as "ebil marketterring". It's the flippers who add NOTHING to the market and simply drive prices up for no reason that I hate.

I rezzed myself with Howling Twilight
Col. Kernel replied to fitzsimmons's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I've rez'd myself twice that way. I primarily use HT as a stun, so it's bound to happen. The first time I was all "WTF?" then I realized what happened. The 2nd time I just laughed. -
Natural Remedy, that's a Plant/Emp 'troller if I've ever heard one. You should totally go for it.

Why City of heroes is the best mmo of all time.
Col. Kernel replied to Fastchicken1st's topic in General Discussion
Without reading any of the thread... CoH is the best MMO of all time because of the flexibility and creativity you don't find in any other MMO. You're not locked into teaming at all, and when you do team you're not locked into a particular team make up. The conversation always goes like this, "What should I bring?". "Bring what you want to play, we'll make it work." Your appearance is in no way tied to your capability - you have the freedom to look how you want to look and build your character to YOUR specification. Not only do all the AT's play differently (to be honest there's only so much you can do for variety in melee ATs) but the powersets make for variations within each AT. I can sum up all of the preceding in one word - replayibility. And that is what makes CoH great. -
If City of Heroes were remade entirely today...

I would make it so that if you took your Origin power pool it doesn't count against your 4+1 pool limit. But I'd also make it so that you could pick the Origin travel power of your choice and have the graphics be tied to the Origin you picked. IOW If you wanted to take Mighty Leap with the Sorcery pool you could, but by default you'd get the Mystic Flight swirling runes graphical effect with it. -

Last time I logged on to CoT boards (admittedly several years ago) they were so toxic that I have less than zero desire to return. If that's the nature of their user community then the won't be anything at all like CoH was/is. -

I'd like the different servers to be different cities. So you're on the Chicago server and you get a lead that the villain you're in pursuit of has gone to New York. You transfer to the NY server (or contact the NY branch of your SG/Coalition) to get the next clue. This is playing off the "more investigative" wishes from the OP. I also like different powers that can be selected at the same tier, like Master Brawler vs Practiced Brawler. Different effects/animations/emanation points chosen as options for each power, along with the colors and brightness of effects. The reason this game is so beloved by so many is, in a word, configurability. You get to pick your appearance (and it's not tied to your powers/abilities), you're not locked into the sucktastic Trinity, so many ATs and each AT has so many powersets, etc, etc, ,etc. So many possibilities and all some people can come up with are "nipples". What's next, ball gags for a costume part? -

Early issues had snow on the ground and the lakes etc frozen over during winter. I miss that. -

Swinging ala Spiderman, Daredevil, etc. -
I'll disagree with you. Here are 2 personal examples. 1) I do HIIT (brief but grueling workout with a trainer) twice a week. Do I enjoy it? No. Then why do I continue? Because I want the end result, obviously. 2) I ride a recumbent trike for extended distances. It makes me hot, sweaty, and generates fatigue, much like #1, only it takes a lot longer. What's my goal? I don't have one*, I ride for enjoyment. * Ok, so I do have a goal. I'm trying to work up riding a Metric Century (100 km, roughly 65 mi.) However riding so I can ride longer isn't exactly what I would consider to be an end result, like running a Dr. Q (WST) for 244 Merits. I want to ride longer because I enjoy the activity.
-
I'm a pretty introspective person, one who tends to over analyze things a LOT. So let me just say that you're waaaay overthinking this. Are you enjoying your current activity? In other words would you like to do this activity again? If your answer is "Yes" then you're having fun.

"Power animation and rooting update" 11/10 finally!
Col. Kernel replied to ZeeHero's topic in General Discussion
Oh puh-LEEZE! Hurricane received 4 major nerfs before Lunge (I know, Spines not Regen, but still) had its range reduced to something reasonable for a melee. And that's just one example of how much the original devs hate anything that's NOT a melee related power (including armors). -
Any way to get /ah command as a button?
Col. Kernel replied to MikeSol's topic in General Discussion
Try this /macro AH "beginchat /ah" And see what you get. -
Here's my personal story. Pre Sunset I never bothered with Set IOs. They were too expensive and too much of a time sink to bother with. The market was not a useful tool for players, it was simply another form of PvP and I was there to play City of Supers, not City of Day traders. Post Sunset I was invited to the SCoRE server. Like many others I had to start pretty much from scratch (remember, no huge stockpile of Inf from Live for me), but the community was tighter knit and changes to the market made it into a more useful tool. I ended up being able to IO out every alt I had with whatever build I wanted. My small SG base still has bins full of IOs. Then my Windows drive crashed and I only had a Linux partition on my laptop for some years. I was too busy to try and get CoH running on Linux. I installed a 2nd HDD but never could get the laptop to recognize it. Eventually I got a refurb Windows box for other purposes, but it runs City so I'm back. I have to say I was discouraged by having to start over yet again, but I was glad to be back playing City with friends. Friends gifted me around 300-400 million total and I got a farmer partially outfitted but still couldn't solo a +4x8 fire farm. I looked into marketing and found a post by Shinobu about crafting and converting, and got his build further along. I still didn't want to do the crafting and converting, I'd rather play City of Heroes in my limited spare time. Then an SG mate made up some spurious reason to gift me 1 billion inf for my spouse and me. That made all the difference. I finished my farmer (I only farm 2 - 3 times a week, I prefer teaming), and I found out that special salvage sells well on the market and you buy it with Merits. It's slower than craft & convert but it doesn't eat up my play time either. So this gift jumpstarted the game for my spouse and me, and seriously increased my enjoyment of it. I'm currently playing less due to RL demands rather than a lack of enjoyment in the game. Sorry this was long, but I wanted you to have the full story from someone who'd received an exorbitant gift.

Have you ever discovered a new place?

Did you get out thru a hole in the geometry, or is there a door somewhere that lets you out? -

I found 2 buildings like this in AP. What exactly do we have here, 4 ledges for heroes to brood over the city? Interesting thing is that the "stairs" work. You click the door and you're back at ground level. The door at the bottom works too. You should be able to find this easily from the landmarks in the screenshot. The other one can be seen from this one. -
If you make both of the buff bots MMs you can have your bots (not the best damage but phenomenal -Res) and replace the Thugs with Beasts (the best damage). Take your Beast MM to Null and have them reject Group Fly.

When Do You Create A Bio . . . And Why?
Col. Kernel replied to Tahliah's topic in General Discussion
If I create a bio I'm more likely to play the character. They're more fleshed out, less 1 dimensional to me. If I'm going to create a bio it's usually at character creation, but sometimes I find I'm enjoying playing a character so much that a backstory just grows in my mind and then I type it in. -
