  1. Pylons are higher than that, or at least can be; I've been knocked back through mag 8 protection.
  2. The redside version of the arc also has you fight ghostly copies that count for Hero Slayer. So if you missed a mayhem mission, it's an easy way to go back to get it.
  3. It certainly is. Ouroboros is a co-op zone, although you can only do the missions from your own side (so you can't do hero missions through Ouro if you're a villain.) You can use Null the Gull to change your alignment to Rogue; that way you'll still be bad, you can still do all the villain content, but you can also hop on over to blueside and join hero teams. That way you can watch them, learn their weaknesses, make them think you're maybe not all that bad after all, then when their guard is down....
  4. The best place to meet for a redside DFB would probably be Mercy Island. People use the sewer entrance instead of AP blueside because AP is a high-population zone, but Mercy isn't so there's not reason not to meet there. Villains don't really have a bunch of "must-do" contacts like heroes do. The accolade requirements are kind of all over the place; there are a few badge missions you need for them but it's easiest to get those through Ouro. You might want to do Ashley McKnight's arc when it becomes available, if you want to access the Midnight Club the old-fashioned way, run the first patron arc at level 35 to unlock patron power pools, and run the rest of your patron's arcs when they become available to unlock the RSF if you want to be able to lead it, but that's about it for the "needed" contacts, so the rest of your choices would largely depend on what enemy groups you want to fight or what flavor of bad you want to be.
  5. Oh no, Titan Weapons is the opposite of painful on a Brute, it's immensely satisfying. Once you get your survivability up to where you can take on bigger groups, they'll generate that initial fury for you, and get some recharge bonuses so Build Momentum is up frequently, the slow initial animations aren't that bad, and it's smashy smashy time.
  6. Finally got my DM/SD the relevant T4 incarnate powers and took her out for a spin. T4 Agility Alpha T4 Degenerative Interface T4 Assault Hybrid Just me and the pylon, no AAO or Soul Drain fodder: Hybrid toggled on: 348 DPS Hybrid off: 266 DPS With one level 54 spawn, about 5-6 dudes, some of which died after a few Soul Drains: Hybrid toggled on: 434 DPS Hybrid off: 335 DPS At some point I'll have to herd two spawns together to see how I do with fully saturated AAO and Soul Drain, but not today.
  7. That's how I do it. I start using attuned IOs in the teens, starting with the pieces that have accuracy. I usually end up respeccing a few times anyway, but that's build tweaks and sometimes getting rid of an attack I needed to fill out my attack chain at lower levels, not a full-blown power-up.
  8. Striga is the best place for both Family and Warriors. Bosses from both groups spawn quite frequently around the docks, and you get some Family bosses around the bridge sometimes. I got my Outcast badge by running around and popping a few every time I was in Steel Canyon, which I found far more efficient that trying to hunt the Hollows or Boomtown, since those zones don't have a lot of bosses. However, this was back when there were often two instances of Steel Canyon, so all the teamed-up players in the zone were causing a lot of bosses to spawn.
  9. It's mini-arc from Steven Sheridan, listed as "Save Doctors from Rikti" in Ouroboros.
  10. On the other hand, if they are aggroing everything and not wiping (which is how a lot of teams run these days,) then a tank that tells them to stop is a dictator tank that I don't want to team with.
  11. We also did an all-Scrapper Apex and Tin Mage on the test server, when those were still new. Back on live my SG ran an all-Scrapper static team, which we called Team War Crime (in reference to a forum quote, "eight Scrappers isn't a team, it's a war crime.") I know we ran Khan with it, because I still have screenshots, but I can't remember what other TFs we ran.
  12. Thank you so much for this coffee maker hack. I was trying to figure out how to make one a while ago, but that was before we got the new items. BTW, the inactive combat log makes a good microwave on its own, no stall panel needed because the panel is black.
  13. The new base love and base raids are mutually exclusive. If they ever want to bring back base raiding, they'd have to implement a "raidable base" option in the editor which would limit the build to the old pathing rules; otherwise you could just stick your item of power into a giant rock where nobody can get to it.
  14. Very much agreed. The graphics arms race resulted in a lot of games that skimped on other things so they could look pretty, and even the shiniest graphics become old-hat after a while. Plus it locks out people who don't have high-end computers.
  15. There's also the Barracuda SF, which is literally impossible to complete without a Mastermind or Defender. No, a Corruptor or Controller won't do. It's an incredibly stupid mechanic that never should have been in this game.
  16. It's pointless evil, that's why I find him unpleasant. If I want actual evil I'll run Vernon Von Grun; at least he's doing it for science. Phipps probably kicks puppies for fun.
  17. I have alts. Most people have alts. So I think it's perfectly valid to build a character that only functions at 50, or that is geared entirely toward AV-soloing, because you can always switch to another character for content they're not good for. Builds that are designed only to "win" the pylon thread, eh, I don't see the point either unless you consider it a contest, which isn't really the intent of the pylon test, but people have done sillier things in this game so whatever.
  18. I skipped Thunderstrike on my Fire/Elec because I had to skip something and the long animation plus needing to invest an extra slot in a Kb-to-KD IO isn't worth it. I do have Havoc Punch though. I don't use it in my ST attack chain on hard targets, because Charged Brawl and Shocking Grasp have better DPS, but it makes for a better finisher than Shocking Grasp since it's not DoT, and the KB doesn't matter if the target is dead. It's also nice to have another heavy-hitter when I exemp down.
  19. The mission in question is a special tip that unlocks a contact who then gives you an arc. I'm not sure if the tip mission is available through Ouroboros, but it's a level 30-50 mission, so switch to villain or rogue and kill some stuff and it should drop fairly quickly.
  20. I was talking about Energy Blast, which does damage even at range although it's not optimal. I have no idea what you're talking about, since every Blaster pairing has a primary that does damage and allows you to completely skip the attacks in your secondary and still do damage.
  21. Someone in the Torchbearer badge channel just confirmed that yes, you do need to be set to ticket rewards to get the badge.
  22. It would be cool if CoV had "paths," kind of like Praetoria has Warden and Crusader or Power and Responsibility. You'd know what kind of missions the contacts offer before you accepted them as a contact, so if your villain was a mustache-twirler they could choose contacts like Peter Themari but if they were "just misunderstood" they'd be happier with content like Slot Machine.
  23. Mercedes Lackey did write a "guest author" AE arc. It wasn't that good. Someone told her this on the test server, and she responded with something along the lines of "that's fair. Writing arcs is hard, it's different from writing a novel." The writing became bad because Dr Aeon was a bad writer who was more interested in gimmicks than interesting and consistent worldbuilding, and thought he was more clever than he actually was.
  24. Probably less so now since the big attack has had its range increased from the pre-IO days, and insta-snipe is a thing, so you can actually kill things at range instead of just scattering them everywhere,. The nuke is still a PBAoE though, and now that you can use it whenever it's up it's still not optimal to play entirely at range.
  25. The world of CoX is explicitly about character customizability, including backstory, personality, and motivation. This world was created to suit many people's characters, not just mine. Writing that doesn't suit this flexible world feels less like a legit addition to the CoX canon and more like bad fanfiction.
