I think that's mostly for when people are running radio/paper/tip/alignment missions and such.
-
Sometimes, yeah. One area that annoys me, in this regard, are those missions that spawn directly in the MIDDLE of Independence Port. No matter which end of the zone you approach from, it's still a slog. 😝

So sheik. Blood stains are always in style.

Ha, ha! Well, at least you know where you stand with those guys. 😄

I'm still watching (and enjoying) the show. My main concern with it at this point, is the same concern I have with most of these 8 episode series by the time we hit episode 6: How are they going to neatly wrap up and resolve the story in 2 episodes? They always do it, of course- but usually not as satisfactorily as I would like. I do wish we could get series that run at least a dozen episodes. I realize that ye-days-of-old, where an average TV series would run a couple dozen (or more) episodes a year are now a relic of my hoary, old past- but at least give us a solid dozen, for crying out loud.

The ol' shard vs thread debate - resolved
Triumphant replied to Ukase's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I've never been clear on which content drops which incarnate components. I just find it easiest to fill my incarnate slots by using a combination of threads + empyrean merits for the rarer components. My tired old brain can parse those two, simple things, so that's what I go with. 🤷♂️ I would not even tell anyone that that's the best way to do it. That's just the way that works best for me. The whole system is a bit too overcomplex, IMO. Part of the problem (IMO) is that the power ladder diagram in the incarnates tab is designed in such a way that it is not intuitive to figure out by looking at it and reading the explanation text. I don't know exactly how that could be redesigned to make it more sensible, but it would really be helpful if some work were done to that effect (again, this is JMO). -
Slowing down when chasing an enemy
Triumphant replied to Book of Og's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Agreed. It's one of a handful of things about this game that truly annoys me. -
There's a lot of variation, depending on my mood, goals and the AT/powersets I'm playing. If I have a specific end-game plan, on an AT and powerset that I know well, I might powerlevel straight to 50 in a single day (though granted, that's rare). If it's an AT/Powerset that is unfamiliar for me, it can take quite a while (weeks- possibly months) because I have to play normally from level 1, in order to learn how to use the power sets effectively.

It's a weird bit of random Trollery, I must confess. I guess some people just haven't got anything better to do. 🤷♂️

Probably true, I suppose. -
Very sorry for your loss.

I have some characters that use knockback to knockdown (I want to maximize my AOE effects). Others, I don't (I just want to enjoy knocking things around like bowling pins). If someone asks me to change the latter character to KB to KD, I just ignore them. What, am I gonna stop to do it in the middle of the mission? No. If the leader wants me to do that, they should have stated "No knockback powers, please" in their recruit message in LFG channel. If it really irritates the leader (and everyone else), they can always boot me from the team. I have no objections to that. The way I deal with other players using KB is I utilize combat teleport to run them down or holds to lock them in place. It makes the game more challenging, yes. It does mess with tanks pretty hard, yes. But Tankers often think that this game is just about them. That everything in combat should revolve around them and that the only tactic that should be considered is the one that utilizes the tank as an anchor to lock the mobs in place around them. And yeah- that's a great tactic. But it's not the only way to play the game. Nor is doing the exact same thing every time, always what you want out of a game, even if it IS the most effective tactic. I think this is really only a major issue in PUGs. If you're part of a regular team or member of an established SG with internal rules of conduct, you can deal with this problem easily enough. PUGs, on the other hand, are... PUGs. You get what you get and you don't throw a fit. All of the above is simply just my opinion, of course. P.S. Also, personally, I find flaming demon mastermind pets WAY MORE annoying and problematic than KB effects. 😝 -
Legit. 👍

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. 👍

Yes, but they have completely different costumes/visual representations and different names and backgrounds. The only thing really similar here, is (obviously) the powersets, but the power imitations alone are not going to trigger a copywrite battle, elsewise CoH is already on a sinking ship. 🤷♂️

Here's my rule of thumb: Don't be obvious. If you have to jump through a several mental hoops to make the connection to a trademarked character, you're probably okay. If you can glance at the character and instantly think, "Oh, yeah, that's obviously a copy of so-and-so character," then there's a strong chance the Devs are going to delete the offending character. It is, of course, subjective. The Devs ultimately make that call, and their opinion on the matter may be different than yours (or others). Regardless, it's their domain and they are within their rights to make that judgement call, before it could potentially become a legal issue (and a pain in the rear for them and everyone else that enjoys playing here).

Little secret on those fire farms: Most of them, if you figure out where the glowie is, you click on the glowie and it deactivates the timer, so you can then finish the mission at your leisure. So on your first run, just stealth + Fly/hover (if possible) around until you find the glowie and note where it is on the mini-map. Then you can run straight to it and click the thing and finish the farm at your leisure. Also, as a general rule, there's no particular penalty for not finishing the mission. You can just restart and go again, once it boots you back to the AE room. Oh, and one final tip: Ask for a hitter or two to help you out when you run those. Often someone will volunteer to give you an assist. This makes it go much faster.

Anyone else prefer to just play "regular" coh?
Triumphant replied to Forager's topic in General Discussion
It's not common these days (as far as I can tell, anyway) but I know there ARE players that enjoy this style. I've seen posts to that end, on these very forums and in the discord. You may have to network a bit to find these groups (I do believe there is an actual group formed around this sort of play, I can't remember what it's called though- or which shard it is on). But, yes, such players do exist. That's the main thing I want to express to you. Also, starting a topic like this is a great way to find them (though you might get more traction posting something similar on Discord, the internet being what it is these days), so good job! 👍 -
No, but it's a cool idea! As long as you can get the buy-in from your player group, I say go for it. I'd love to play in a campaign like that. I ran various one-shot games of MSH rpg back in the late 80's and a DC Heroes campaign in the 90's. They were very popular and my group had a blast with them both. While this was long before CoH existed, of course, I see no reason why it wouldn't make a great setting for TTRPG play.

Five ideas to make missions more tolerable
Triumphant replied to temnix's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
What we mean by this is that if you want to learn all the fiddly bits about character building (different enhancements and incarnate powers, how to make and slot them, how they interact with one another, which powers do what and so on) can all be quite complicated and confusing and it often requires a great deal of trial-and-error to figure it out. But yes, if you don't want to worry about any of that stuff (stuff which is where, for many of us, a great deal of the fun comes in when customizing, tweaking, and experimenting with different character builds), you can just slot your character with whatever drops during play and just go about your business at +0/1 and, once you have a decent amount of practice under your belt, this game is going to be pretty damn easy. So yes, when put into context, both things can be (and, IMO, are) true. -
Five ideas to make missions more tolerable
Triumphant replied to temnix's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
While I am not really interested in implementing most of the OP's suggestions, I must admit that this has always irritated me to no end: Yeah, I agree, actually. It's quite irritating that my objective is to retrieve the Liquid Computer (or whatever), but when I sneak past the guards, find the McGuffin, and grab said McGuffin without attracting any attention, I still have to go ambush and kill guards, instead of just being able to sneak out. If you want to force me to fight, at least put guards with high perception right next to the McGuffin, so that engaging them makes sense. Or... yeah, change the mission objective description to: Steal the McGuffin and kill "X" number of guards. Still doesn't make any sense, but at least you're being clear and consistent. -
I would be a natural SJ/WP scrapper. Except... I suck. So actually, after attempting to be a SJ/WP scrapper, I would wind up being one of those cowering civilians getting terrorized by thugs. 😝🤷♂️

Should folks who contribute get something extra?
Triumphant replied to Troo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
While I'm not against it personally (even though I am too poor to donate, myself), I worry about the optics of it. This as a not-for-profit hobby project and it works very well that way. I would be concerned with how it might be viewed if a rewards for donations model were to be adopted. -
I figured it was something like that. Understandable, but sad, as I love the idea.
