its true, my refusal to blindly praise AE has resulted in many beatings 🤕
-
well if i wake up tomorrow morning to find this has become The Mediocre AE Debate i might start to get disappointed 😛

or the devs could simply seed IO prices like they do already for salvage

Any *old old* game things you kinda miss?
MoonSheep replied to Gulbasaur's topic in General Discussion
i completely agree. the game on live used to have meaningful rewards for progression. everything feels a bit too auto-win thesedays on a nostalgic note, sirens call on live used to be *amazing* before everyone had a hyper IOd out build -
i’m not sure there is inflation of any IO prices on HC compared to live but i understand your point that converters make undesirable IOs have value rather than a single golden goose of the set it used to feel amazing if a purple or a numinas, miracle etc dropped - thesedays it’s a non event
-
thank you for your contribution
-
yes agreed, but only for five minute bursts of chaos which activate once an hour without warning
-
what about a Coralax zone GM event that summons waves of coralax from all surrounding waters in the zone to defend it each time it reaches 75/50/25% health. progressively more numerous each time. wave of luts/bosses then EBs

people hate on synapse but at least the maps are nice citadel is definitely the worse. part of me dies everytime i run it
-
given the conversations you, me and others have had in the AE thread we’ve both learned a lot about game balance, risk vs reward and desired mechanics of an MMO. therefore troo, i’d suggest the following: everyone should start at lvl 50, all IOs should be free and enemies should all have 1hp all zones which aren’t atlas park can be removed and itrials can start from AP - what a dream. honing the game to peak perfection

Why does every TF have to be a +0 snooze fest?
MoonSheep replied to FungalGrowth's topic in General Discussion
i run most of my TFs with the enemies buffed option even if i’m running on +0. the extra enemy accuracy and damage gives things that oldschool CoH feel -
i think this is a good example of expectations management. trying to play an MMORPG as a pickup and play FPS is going to cause friction. CoH isn’t a superhero version of Left 4 Dead MMO’s have art, creativity and journey progression as their core gameplay offering. Exploits such as AE farms are designed to circumvent this which is why there is some pushback to the practice of auto-win
-
well, back on track to the debate i do think balance is the ultimate objective. a large playerbase is nice, though it shouldn’t take priority over trying to develop CoX into it’s “truest” form the development of the game is largely an artform and is the basis for the experience. a lot of the debate is about right vs wrong, however the artistic goal seems to be absent from the discussion AE as a concept was an opportunity for art - and often is in many cases, however it’s mostly known for its (currently) permitted game exploits
-
not sure that’s how quoting works either mate but well done for trying
-
you’re able to articulate many of the points i don’t have the eloquence for, troo in my view, if the end goal can be easily achieved, the novelty of the game wears off quickly and people leave. the game experience of reward and achievement for the non-farming playerbase are impacted as end objectives are essentially meaningless when the game is auto-win i am hugely supportive of progressively numerous mass waves in AE or at the end of certain TFs where thematically sensible, sometimes it’s good fun for a chaos slay fest AE farms in their current form though are quite clearly an exploit and are outside of the standard game mechanics of effort vs reward - especially now that accounts are free and you can quad/quintbox your way to riches
-
oh yeah for sure, i'd be going with dark blast for the -acc values and see how much i can debuff to keep the team safer
-
i think you've touched on a good point here ol flea, in my view reward should be balanced against difficulty
-
the debuff numbers are being significantly reduced - i only fire off my sonic attacks for their debuff values, my kin/sonic is a bit of a sitting duck

MoonSheep replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
haha.. i'll prepare myself for an evening of downvote notifications -
i’ve always loved my kin/sonic, i only play two alts, that being one of them after the sonic changes i think i’ll delete it and re-roll it as a kin/dark
-
poison/fire probably one of the best defenders for soloing. it disarms AVs in seconds
-
AE has strayed from gods light and must be smited 🙏
-
my opinions differ as i have reverse altitis, i play just two alts since returning to CoH - the journey and gradual progression is what makes CoH a great game in my view shifting the playerbase back towards team based missions and actually having to play the game to receive rewards reintroduces balance in that the top rewards are earned through playing and are more of a rarity. i think it’s a good thing that top end rewards should be hard to achieve whilst PLing existed back on live, the modern AE cheats and exploits have ramped things up a notch - it’s unnatural, like drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth
