Sigh...this is why we can't have nice things.
Mjolnerd replied to Skyhawke's topic in General Discussion
Sure, it's absolutely a dick move... but unless you're dealing in truly massive quantities, 10,000 inf is still kind of a drop in the bucket. -

Need help with a concept character
Mjolnerd replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in General Discussion
My first thought was also a Water Blast/Mental Manipulation blaster. Of course, mermaids aren't really known for spraying water all over the place. So you could just go with psychic powers and a mermaid-inspired costume. Or lean into the "siren" aspect of mermaids and use some combination of psychic and sonic/symphony powersets. It's also worth mentioning that ancillary/patron powers can help fill some thematic holes -- all psychic powers and also MIND SHARKS!!! for example. -
Well, that was... not entirely incorrect, but certainly needlessly hostile. I don't think I've seen anyone in this thread "whining" or calling for any of the changes made in the game's lifespan to be rolled back, just reminiscing. "Hey, remember this thing?" "Oh, yeah, haha, I do remember that thing!" Yes, things are better now than they used to be. Yes, there's always room for improvement. But seriously, dude: chill the eff out.

Me personally, not at all. For all the pearl-clutching some players like to do about this set not doing as much as that other set (or for extra woe-is-me, being "unplayable"), every set in the game does enough damage. Every single one. Kinetic Melee is fine. Archery is fine. Storm Blast is fine. You may not like them for one reason or another, and maybe they could use a once-over from the devs to address certain issues, but even if that never happens, their damage will still be fine. Really.

Most of them were created several years before SR was proliferated over to tanks (Issue 21, the "Freedom"/FTP rebranding), so probably not. Maybe one of the characters created for the failed Korean launch?
-
If Spider-Man is a melee class at all (there's an argument for him being a Dominator, I think) he's absolutely a Super Reflexes tank as opposed to a scrapper. He does the punchy-punchy, sure, but it's not his main "thing" -- defense in the form of dodging and avoiding enemies' attacks is. Inhuman agility is his "primary powerset," so to speak. Plus he makes near-constant use of Taunt.

This is also the guy who was surprised that people had more than a handful of Hami-O's on any given character, because what MMO player would run the same content over and over again for the best gear available at the time? And apparently the rest of the dev team had to fight him about marking shops on the map because he had some weird idea about their locations being secret and spreading through the community by word of mouth. Because that's how stores work.

honoroitisfantastic whats your most pressing issue?
Mjolnerd replied to honoroit's topic in General Discussion
Hulk is strongest one there is, and therefore has no pressing issues. Nor does he have curling issues, deadlifting issues, kettlebell issues, pullup issues, push-up issues, box-jumping issues, or squatting issues. He does, however, have issues with the old guy in the locker room who insists on getting dressed socks-first. Hulk not need see that. HULK SMASH PUNY WRINKLY MAN -
honoroitisfantastic whats your most pressing issue?

Doctor Doom never graduated college and is, therefore, not technically a doctor. Reed Richards, on the other hand, possesses several doctorates, but chooses to call himself "Mister" Fantastic, making him both more modest and substantially more egotistical than Doom. To my knowledge, most of the Masters of Evil do not possess master's degrees. It is statistically unlikely, though technically possible, that every member of the Sinister Six is left-handed. How does one count Doctor Octopus for those purposes anyway? -
I'm trying desperately to construct a hilarious joke here involving Luck Charms, the color green, and the fact that it's the magic-themed enemy group in the game, and I'm coming up short, so I'm just going to post this picture instead and trust that you'll all laugh at my (purely theoretical) comedic genius:

The cape mission. Broadcasting that you'd pay however-many million inf to tag along on someone's fortune teller mission, because you'd somehow missed it yourself and there wasn't a way to go back and get missions from contacts you'd out-leveled. People accumulating so much debt that they'd delete the character outright rather than try to dig their way out of that hole. Dying multiple times trying to sprint across Steel Canyon from one train station to the other because the yellow and green lines hadn't been combined yet.
-
Upon my first reading of this line, I thought I had somehow missed a major plot point wherein it was revealed that the tailor in Steel Canyon was in league with the Tsoo and personally sending them after heroes who came to him looking for a new costume. "Hello, Tub Ci? It's Serge. I've got another one for you. Asked for red boots to go with their green tights, can you believe that? I know! Some of them are beyond help. Anyway, yes, right outside my shop, any minute now. Thanks!"

I'm on the west coast, but I work second shift (2:00 - 11:00 PM) so I'm usually not on until about midnight my time/3:00 AM your time at the earliest. Sometimes that translates to still being around at 4:00 or 5:00 AM PST/7:00 or 8:00 AM EST, sometimes not.

When someone tells you an entire powerset is bad, underperforms, or even that it's "unplayable," take that as meaning that it's perfectly good, but maybe only 95% as good as other sets you could take instead. OH, THE HORROR

Flight was always my favorite too -- not the only one I use, but easily the one I use the most. I don't care that it's slightly slower than others, it's still plenty fast. More than fast enough. And also it lets you F-bombing fly.
-
I usually do, partly because I'm a theme/concept junkie and partly because they're usually fairly easy to fit into the build, not especially slot-hungry, and a nice convenient place to keep a slow resist and/or knockback reduction IO. I certainly don't do it at level 4 like I see a lot of builds doing, usually somewhere in the 40s, but one is probably going to get in there at some point.

I'm at work and away from my computer right now so I can't bang anything out as an example, but my first thought here is that you should work with asymmetry. Nothing says "I'm working with what I have, not what I want" like mismatched gloves, boots and shoulder pads, maybe even one of the robotic arm options.

There's actually a whole thread just for requesting help/ideas/feedback on costumes. They do good work there. Highly recommended, five stars.

Select "full mask" as the head type (the kind that doesn't let you pick a hairstyle), the fin is one of the top-of-head options. The mask is Grin.

EDIT: Almost forgot, there were a few shark posts in this very thread a while back! That discussion starts here. My shark looks like this:

honoroitisfantastic whats your most pressing issue?
Mjolnerd replied to honoroit's topic in General Discussion
I mean... yes and no? But mostly no. For one thing, there are only like eight of them. Ten or twelve if you want to be generous and count low-FX options for things like ice and stone as separate "auras" from the full-FX versions, I suppose. For another, they're all full-body options. Plus, PAPs in general are yet another hyper-specialized currency we didn't need in a game that already has multiple redundant currencies that either don't do much, don't do anything except convert to some other, useful currency, or only do something to a point and then just keep accumulating forever to no benefit (why can't I spend Incarnate threads or Vanguard merits or Astral merits on this stuff?). When I can have Electric eyes and Starburst hair at the same time, or Fiery fists in combat and Smoky fists out of combat, or -- like Anti-Matter has -- both Alpha and Atomic body auras (and does he also have an eye aura on top of that? It's hard to tell), I'll be satisfied. Until then it's all half-measures. -
honoroitisfantastic whats your most pressing issue?
Mjolnerd replied to honoroit's topic in General Discussion
My most pressing issue is, as always, the pitiable lack of DUAL AURAS -- we know it's possible because Nega-Positron has them in the Keyes Reactor iTrial, why can't players have them too? Either that or there being too few different in-game currencies and too many things to spend them all on. -
Left hand WASD for movement + QE for turning, not sure why but it's ingrained in me to the point that I have to remap other games that do the standard "E = interact" thing (which is most of them). Attacks or other commonly-used powers go in the main tray, 1-5 or so depending on the character. Less-common but still frequently-used powers like Assassin's Strike, Taunt, combo finishers for StJ, etc go to tray 2 so I can Alt+number them. Even-less-common things that I still want to have handy like location AOEs or "panic buttons" like armor set T9s are on tray 3 so I can Ctrl+number them (that's slightly harder and slower for me than Alt since I can't use my thumb for it). Right hand floats between my mouse and the 7-0 side of the keyboard; that's where things like Build Up, Hybrid powers, self-heals and the like end up, again making heavy use of the Alt key to shift up to tray 2 for a lot of it. Toggles and anything on auto (Hasten) go in a separate tray next to my main ones so I can see what's going on with them, but I'll click them manually so I don't need them taking up space in my main trays. Same with long range teleports, utility powers like Reveal, or pet summons. I can, if I really want to (and I'm not chatting or doing anything too involved like an iTrial or something), play the game at about 90% "efficiency" using only my left hand. Don't give me that look, I know what I said. I'm playing on a docked Steam Deck these days and I've thought about experimenting with a controller-style layout to see if I can come up with something workable so I can play when I'm not at home, but I haven't put too much effort into that yet.
