Is farming an imbalanced method of earning ingame rewards?
Without_Pause replied to macskull's topic in General Discussion
Define farming? There are plenty of builds, see tanks, who can nap though +2/x8 content. Are they farming, or is it just when it is +4/x8 because the only difference at that point is currency and not drops? Is it not the same since the mobs change up enough even though again, some builds essentially sleepwalk through that content. It doesn't have to include fire attacks to be farmed for rewards. Or is it the repetitive nature of it all which makes it farming like playing ebil marketer? Since, you know, once someone knows how to work the market, there's very little risk at all outside of a misplaced bid. People have written about how best to essentially farm Incarnate related drops or merits. Just curious what people find so terribly wrong in this game where defined correctly A LOT of people "farm" on some level. Oh, and why on God's green Earth is it so terrible I enjoy the way to play the game the way I have chosen to do so? If by farming I put more into the market than take out of it, how is that "bad?" -
Good Troller for team play - Elemental theme team
Without_Pause replied to CallMeMal's topic in Controller
If you can deal with Storm on a defender, it will work even better on a controller since you can mitigate some of the KB by default. The #1 issue for me would have been how much that's going to suck your end bar. I ran a Plant/storm to 50, and that was one of the more painful rides to 50. Getting the alpha slot unlocked and invested in it really opened it up. Until then, I felt like I kept having to hold back. Note, I didn't use any of the IOs for procs in terms of Stamina/Health. That would have helped. Even on my Fire/time controller, I felt like going, "Someday, I will be able to go all out." -
Illusion/Dark Affinity for Soloing Red Side?
Without_Pause replied to Apparition's topic in Controller
Biggest downside is getting to 18, and then level 22 so you can at least get some decent common IOs in the build. Red side doesn't help with early TFs like blue side does. I got mine into the 40s, and it is one of the few controller builds I can see wanting to invest in once I hit 50. Ill/rad for me on live was the first build to actually pull off +4 even at common IO level. -
On live, Ice/ice and Elec/dark which I had for a hardcore SG. I loved the Ice one despite Ice's rep. If I had to pick one between the two, Elec/dark. A bit of buzzsaw back when that was a thing. A reroll would be a higher priority if I wasn't thinking of making it Elec/rad instead as that combo wasn't an option when I rolled my tanks on live. I have a SS/elec brute in the 40s so waiting to see how I like Elec in terms of end game before I roll another. On HC, I just started to play around with a Dark/staff. If not for having them in other ATs, I would instantly roll a Shield/rad and Bio/rad. So far I know I like EA, although on stalker, and WP as defensive sets. Fire doesn't qualify until I can kick the tires outside of AE. SJ and Claws are favorite melee sets with Kat and Rad being up there.

HELP! My Claws/Ice is EATING End like a madman!!!!
Without_Pause replied to LeBlanc's topic in Brute
Start slotting some level 25 common IOs to save on swapping out enhancers. Also, Stamina should get a Performance Shifter: +End proc and a Performance Shifter: End Mod IO. Health can get Numina's Convalescence: Regen/Recovery, Miracle: +Recovery, and a Panacea: +HP/End. If you need currency, A bit of marketing can go a long way. Once some bids come in, my level 6 will have 8+ million. I fully plan on making any new character self sufficient in terms of currency and only slotting attuned IOs. See: -
Request Dark/staff tank. Claws/wp brute. Skip the T1. SS/elec brute. Skip the T1. Add in Cross Punch and Spring Attack. If nothing else, it will good to use as I try to see how well I would do building them.

Same, but this time in RWZ

Game has crashed on me three times in the past two days including twice this morning while using the market. Anyone else having the game crash while using the market?

There was absolutely a time where Kins(because SB and Fulcrum) and Stone tanks(because they were night killable) were absolutely looked for when doing certain things. Now, the game has changed and Stone tanks aren't all that, and yes, during HC there has a been a lot less of anything specific called out, but there absolutely was a time when things were different. I have run numerous configurations with groups as I ran a SG back on live, but how much support was looked for was vastly depending on what the team was showing it could handle. That's about the only time I cared about team makeup. (remembers a PuG in Hollows with a FF and Sonic, fun times)
-
It was from live, so no clue at this point, but I played a ton back on live and remember how much things leaned so heavily towards Emps and how often default attack based builds there were. Hell, based on HC's numbers from last year, Emp's were still over double of any other set for defenders.
-
I've seen people get flack for being Rad and being limited to its heal, so no, I don't think any heal will do. We all know Emp defenders aka 'healers' with nothing but the default attack are a meme. But yes, Kins have been asked for which also negates the statement that no powerset ever has been asked for.
-
Groups have looked for 'healers' since day 1 and people continue to promote themselves as such. While no, it doesn't have to be a specific powerset, it very often is, or at least a short list of ones. I don't need so much def against things which are dead. Cold, among other things, gets me there quicker. I have thought about making a FF character a number of times, but in the end, I can't justify it. No powerset has gotten more screwed over in terms of end game builds than FF.

Everything seems to cost too much influence
Without_Pause replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
Not mentioned I don't think, but on live and here on HC I had a crafter character who unlocked crafting badges so I could get the badge to craft level 25 IOs without a recipe and at a discounted cost. You can then outfit any character with level 25 Common IOs once they hit 22, and keep adding IOs as needed all the way to 50. All of my builds on live used Common IOs. That character played the market and had over 2 billion and started to give my other characters money as needed. The character I use for that now "only" has 500 mill, but is funding various IOs sets for builds, and already slotted out a cheaper build for themselves. I also took a decent break from Homecoming, so I could easily be at the 2+ billion mark if I wanted to be. Easiest way to have currency is to get a character to 50, and keep playing them. Common level 50 recipes can go for 100K+ via a vendor. -
What do you think is the most even power set?
Without_Pause replied to Kung Fu Cow's topic in General Discussion
Street Justice is just smooth for me. Even better on a Stalker, but it has a nice combination of ST and AOE attacks with mitigation and no real long animation times. If not for already having a Claws/wp character, I could easily see playing a ton on a SJ/wp build. -
Purple drops. Anyone else see a change?
Without_Pause replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Dual boxed last night and got a purple on each character. Seems to be working fine. -
Stalker swaps out a ST attack for AS and thus doesn't lose out like a number of stalker sets do with losing AoE, so it translates quite well outside of Hemo's slower damage being rather anti-stalker philosophy.

Mythbusting - Kin/Sonic and it's corruptor counterparts
Without_Pause replied to Nemu's topic in Defender
I played so many Kins back in the day I got sick of them. I never skipped SP or got rid of it via a respec. A Kin leaving battle? WTF? SP has range on it. You can pull just fine standing where you are at. The only time my Kins left battle was to move onto the next mob. In terms of moving around, that's what Siphon Speed is for. Hell, I move around on my melee characters as much if not more depending on the situation. And yes, a Kin/sonic was one of the few Kins I got to 50 and played afterwards. I'm not here to claim it is the best combo. From a defender standpoint, I would argue Kin/rad takes that, but it is quite good and one of the few Kin builds I rerolled coming back. I didn't keep it, but that's more with me being done with Kin versus it being subpar. -
Determining if the Game is Too Easy
Without_Pause replied to Monos King's topic in General Discussion
News at 11. Players of a superhero game complain about the game making them feel too much like (checks notes) superheroes. How dare they. How. Dare. They. Not every game needs to be Dark Souls or rouge like. Some games can be nice, light, and fun romps. Some can be family friendly enough to where parents will let their kids play and maybe even with them. Yes, a nice light romp the whole family can enjoy. That to me what CoH has been about. There have always been the min-maxers. There's content for them. An end game where you finally completed a character was always going to happen. Want to keep playing them? Great. You can. Want to move onto something else be it a new character or even game? Great. You can also do that. The biggest need right now is Incarnate content. That's it. -
StJ can put up numbers. It certainly can for stalkers.

I wonder if Rad's own secondary trigger is overwriting the crit text or adds to it so it might get lost in all of the text. Been ages since I played my Rad/shield so I can't recall.

https://www.newegg.com/cyberpowerpc-gamer-ultra-2054-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16883229194?Item=N82E16883229194 What can I push this too for RAM, and how easy would it be to switch in a SSD drive as my old hard drive died on it? Mostly reviving this to run Linux on and hopefully CoH. I can run it on other computers, but those have Intel which can be an issue with certain maps. I'm fine if this only is used for Linux though.

I like the sound of the set, but the eye beam attack still isn't one I like. The original version just grates on me.
-
Savage with /ea or /sr would be my picks for a faster scrapper since Claws isn't an option. /ea has a smoother curve for end issues. I would use more resist based builds for brutes and tanks.

Earth/storm just utterly and completely wrecks things. You can be on a team which goes after multiple mobs. You can be the star on a Prevent 30 Fir Blog from escaping or whatever they are called mission.
