Grandpa, tell me about the old days...
Bionic_Flea replied to GastlyGibus's topic in General Discussion
I was trying to figure out when I started and I think it is either late Issue 0 or early Issue 1. I bought the game in the Summer of 2004 while grocery shopping at WalMart as I thought it was a sequel to Freedom Force. As you can see, the covers were a little similar. Anyway, I was excited to play but then realized it was a subscription-based game and was more than a little angry. I didn't want or need another monthly expense and felt a bit duped and a bit stupid for not reading the box carefully. So it sat on my shelf for a month or two. But then I figured I had a free month and should go ahead and use that since I had paid for the box. I made Bionic Flea and logged into Justice server. I went with Invulnerable and Super-Strength because that's a classic superhero pairing and I knew I was going to use the Jump pool, because flea's don't fly! I logged into Atlas Park and was overwhelmed. This was my first and only MMO. I saw xXWolverineXx and a bunch of other knock offs but also a lot of unique looking heroes running around. I had no idea what to do and finally figured out how to say so in broadcast. Someone was kind and invited me and spent an hour showing me the basics. A few others laughed at the "noob" -- I didn't know what that meant at the time. I wanted to get my money's worth so I played an hour or two every night after work. Initially, I was playing on dial-up, so logging into missions took a literal minute or two. Sometimes I didn't realize but I had been booted because someone called on the phone while I was playing. Due to my dial-up and noobishness, I soloed most of the time. I remember learning that exiting a mission filled my health and endurance back so I would run and and mash buttons as long as I could stay alive and then run for the door . . . and then go to the restroom and grab a drink as I loaded out and back in. I remember not taking Unyielding Stance because how stupid is it to not be able to move! I picked up acrobatics instead and just took the beating when I got mezzed . . . then ran for the door. The first month flew by and I never cancelled so I was automatically billed for another month and kept going until sunset, with a few years of paying for two accounts. It took Bionic Flea four or five months to get to level 50. And in those few months I made friends that I played with almost every night. I joined their SG, Dream Team, which I remade here. Hamidon raids were slideshows attended by 200 or so players. I didn't mind the slideshow because that gave us plenty of time to chat and joke. I didn't participate in the forums until about a year after first joining. That just added another flavor to my addiction, I could play at night and learn about the game or chat with other addicts during the day. And here I still am almost 20 years later. -

I found a build in game even stranger than my own
Bionic_Flea replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
Did someone summon POOL MAN? Two powers from primary, six from secondary, and SIXTEEN pool powers! My favorite thing was to fire off Whirlpool, Geyser, then Spring Jump while yelling CANNONBALL! If I timed it just right it looks like my jump caused the big splash from Geyser. It was surprisingly effective both solo and in teams. I made this on another server: -

Slotting and Strategies for Symphony Control

Try this: -
Reverse the order: " /bind mbutton, "powexec_location camera:max Translocation$$powexec_location target Translocation""

Ukase isn't a bad guy, but he is quite the old curmudgeon.

How DARE you have any fun! You must grind. This is the way.

I tend to go reactive or degen the most as you get additional damage AND some bonus damage in the form of -MaxHP or -res. As tidge says, Reactive's -res tends to be better for clearing crowds of scrubs and Degenerative is better for big sacks of HP like AVs and GMs. I have added Diamagnetic to dark blast characters and especially defenders and corrupters that also do some -regen so that I can stack both effects to help the team and myself. I like Spectral on controllers. It adds immobilization, which triggers extra containment damage, and negative damage, which isn't wildly resisted. It's not picked as often as the three above so that's beneficial for stacking a variety of effects, especially on Leagues. And I usually pair that with Control Core Hybrid, which grants an extra mag of control and bonus psi damage to controlled enemies. Preemptive I have used on characters that I want to be sappers. I tried Gravitic on a gravity controller just based on theme and it really did slow critters down to a crawl. I could also see using the radial branch on a /cold or /poison to stack on top of Benumb and Weaken. I have tried cognitive several times and am always disappointed. It rarely if ever confuses anything and the psi damage is less than other DoTs. If you use it to stay on a psi theme you are waaaaaay better off going with any other DoT as everything that resists psi resists it A LOT (like all robots and there are lots of bots at 50). I don't think I have ever used Paralytic. The only use I have for -defense is to slot an Achilles - res proc and Interface can't do that. Well, that and Paragon Protectors going godmode -- but you are better off killing them fast than hoping you got enough -def on them. I could, perhaps, see combining the -dam with the - dam in Void Judgment. But at level 50, especially on teams, I much prefer more damage to more survivability.

Def/res slotted scrapper vs DPS slotted tanker
Bionic_Flea replied to Dark Juggernaut's topic in Archetypes
I would generally say that tanker is safer and scrapper is faster, but there are builds out there that can do crazy things. I personally prefer tankers and voted accordingly. -
Funny how I blind myself. I never knew If I was sometimes played upon, afraid to lose I'd tell myself, what good you do Convince myself It's my life, don't you forget It's my life, it never ends

I really like cutscenes . . . the first time. The next few are still amusing. But after a certain point it becomes a little like this:

Here's my Symph/Dark build. The concept was to play mostly at range and to maximize the cones by adding +range. Works well solo and in teams for me.
