Yes but I go back to my last few sentences. Mind you I agree with you. But perception is all that matters. You are talking about some dense people here. They will see they have someone with a secondary but lacking a lot of their primary. I guess what I'm trying to say is if you can get defense cap without gimping yourself I would. It just adds another layer of bonus on your end because they are just seeing they could have gotten another dark set player with More primary powers thus more dps that can do the same as you. Further regardless of the powers sets, some sets are just not that Conducive to getting or obtaining the defense cap you need. You already have a few strikes against you as a mastermind let alone a petless mastermind. Look I am working on that build. I could have went traps again but I wanted to try a different challenge. I'm at level 23 and just slotted IOS. So let me see how it rolls. I am also thinking of just starting a petless mastermind Sunday's type of run. I also need to do a dps comparison of whips to other attacks to see how bad they are. I also took the mystic attack as a 4th attack.

Depending on your arch type it helps you survive. E.g. Blaster would go range defense. If your dead all the time it's noticeable especially when your a certain arch like tank, brute or scrapper. In this instance of the discussion many people dislike masterminds. Several players who play masterminds also help perpetuate this hatred. When I join a team thank them profusely and make it clear I will stay out of the way with the pets. Not gonna kill me to kowtow. So now add in now we are talking petless mastermind. Imagine Now you are not defense capped and your doing less damage and you're dying just like the storm red trooper they could have brought on to the team. You basically need to show the team holy cow this player can handle themselves

Sorry meant Steadfast. It is in the build I posted though. The bots are giving me 7%. I also updated Mids with a patch that cleaned up a bunch of stuff that pines added that just isn't in game. AT lvl 36 I slotted the Gladiators Armor TP protection +3% defense. So at 40% Defense ATM. With the 2nd Upgrade to the bots I am now doing 1/8 smoothly. That hellfire AOE attack from the Assault bot is great. I mentioned this on the old forums and I will mention it here.. There has to be a bug somewhere in the code because I always have one Battle drone that ALWAYS runs off to fight. I notice it every time. I just leave myself with 2 battle drones and only resummon when another one dies and I am down to one. But again something is clearly wrong as one Battle Drone always just decides to move closer to the mobs even with me spamming Stay. -

Re-post your build with the data chunk at least so it can be seen in mids. But honestly just by looking at the build, you need to learn about game mechanics. You need to obtain defense caps otherwise its useless. -
Dark is not gonna get you the defense numbers you need even with the Hit debuff. Plus you need anchors and its not exact between the anchor having the Hit Debuff and you getting hit. There is a delay. So you will get hit before the debuffs kick in. Further Whips at low levels is VERY high on Endurance. End result Traps is the easiest and safest way to go. Just swap out My Robot Traps build posted in another thread with demons and you are good to go. You could even provoke as well.

I did such a thing and it might have been me your speaking of. It was a big drawn out debate/fight on the old forums. Here is the simple gist. And I just seen a few threads and some comments in game. Masterminds suck. Many people hate them. They hate you block the door. They hate you take up space in the small cave. They hate your pets run off and pull aggro when not needed. ETC.. So they hate the pets.. But then you have someone asking about a petless Mastermind and You suck because your gimping yourself. Unfortunately here is the deal. I can't express the amount of crappy builds I have seen on these forums in general. Many people have no clue about defense cap. They see purple sets and they equate that to an I WIN button. I literally was on a team with my Robot Traps and I understood why people where leaving. Because one player said " I really don't recall dying this much ever in this game." Basically we had a bunch of poorly slotted players. Brute kept dying because he thought could handle it. Not to brag, but I am gonna. I have my defenses at 40 at level 36. When I joined the team there buffs brought me up to a whopping 42.. No one had any defense buffs. I turned the team around with the simple ability to Provoke and pull aggro off the brute. I didn't bother explaining anything to anyone as they just eventually caught the hint when I told them stay within the RED bubble and you will live. So to my point. I will not try to debate that not having your pets does reduce your DPS. But if people could just think rationally for a minute. I just removed every IO and turned off every self buff. If a petless mastermind for example is whip traps and is offering up 26 to all defenses to every player. Plus Perma Triage beacon and a bunch of other debuffs. Is that really, really gonna destroy a team doing ITF ? Do you really need 8 people to do some thing in this game that is not league size and dependent ? You get what I mean ? I am 100% sure many people had people on their team at 50 and probably didn't know they where not even IOed out and probably just using SO's. I am sure some people weren't even slotted at times. I can tell you with my petless demon pain mastermind I created an alt build with just SOs and unlocked and built up all my incarnate powers. Someone else just mentioned on this thread, just be a Kin. I have a DP Kin. Do you think I ever had to promote myself and DP KIN ? I just KIN LFT and I got one EVERY TIME. It was my fastest run to 50 to date. You think anyone would have rejected me because I was a Dual Pistol Kin ? I will say this. You can't be petless and just totally suck. You have to bring something to the table. But if you know how to create a build and can be defense capped and can handle your own on a 1/8 to 4/8 setting I do not honestly see the issue when I see Tanks, Brutes and Scrappers faceplanting every night. Again yes I understand your loosing DPS with no pets.. I get it. But with the amount of sucky players in the game with utterly shitty builds don't zero in on the petless mastermind because he stands out as the guy with whips and no pets. And if your doing it clearly shows you have no clue on about game mechanics and just trolling or talking out of your backside. Further You could get the pets for IO sets but just never summon them. Again I am defense capped without my pets but yes I use them with my robot traps. Demon Storm build. Range defense capped. Midway Melee and AOE, not that it matters because PBAOE is Melee and Ranged AOE is Ranged. So AOE is a moot point. But regardless. Comic con city map and cave map are good for Master Minds as it pretty much keeps everything linear. I get the Comic con on the moon would just be madness and mayhem as the pets would or could run EVERYWHERE on the map in seconds.

I see where your going with the build. I have a DP KIN I just reworked and will be posting, but I know you haven't actually run this yet and I will explain. Range attacks are gonna kill you every time. Why ? Because again my DP KIN had similar numbers.. Oppressive gloom get rid of it.. Works great on full defense capped players.. I had it and I go so much aggro I was dying in seconds after turning it on and this was with Incarnate powers and being T3. I think the build can definitely be reworked and re-tuned. 5 slotting luck in stealth is wasted. Actually having stealth is wasted. 2 slotting hasten might be wasted. Vengeance pretty much useless end game. Its great for AE farming scam to PL.

I think its over kill. Your talking 120 million for some of these sets. My AR Traps will probably cost 120 million and in many ways has better numbers then you and is defense capped as well. I could build probably 3 or 4 defense capped toons on the cost of this one. Get defense cap then get recharge and some healing via triage beacon. You will see how much double triage beacon matters when your soloing 4/8.. This is before Incarnate btw. Tough 6 slotted for ? Not needed. Build lesson, Shift click on the power and zero out the sets.. take away an IO and see what changes.. EG ( not pertaining to you specifically ) You have hasten 3 slotted.. 1. You lock a key power to see how the recharge numbers change.. 2. You shift click to get to the alt IOs in hasten to zero it out. 3. You add one IO look at the change. 4. You add another and look at the change. Sometimes when adding a 2nd even 3rd you will not notice a change.. Thus you have 2 slots free for something else..

So you know it doesn't rely on the bots for defense cap. The bots are extra. Just reverse the IOs to blank set and click everything off and you will see defenses are zero. But I am getting an error on the import both ways and would like to see the build. I recreated the build from what was listed. I swear this isn't a epeen competition but I do look and compare. Your short some numbers in defense cap. 44 for melee and 47 for AOE.. Can be fixed. You are also taking a hit not only in regen and recovery but also accuracy and damage bonus, by a lot. And the recharge rate is only fractions of a second faster just look at triage beacon on both builds and compare. You do have some higher resistance numbers. I can't see the cost for for these IOs if your not really getting anything greater out of it. My build is about 100 million. Your triage beacon is 120 million. Both builds are created in Pines. Again I am not trying to fire a shot across your bow here. I am just looking at mids and making sure the settings are correct, which they are and reporting what mids says. Currently lvl 30.. Just level 25 and 30s IOs, no sets. But I do have the following kismet 3% defense stealth IO in super speed regenerative tissue regeneration IO in health. performance shifter +end in stamina I tested it all out yesterday. Here is the simple results. 0/8 is the idea setting at 37.5 defense. I did do 1/8 but the red con mobs just took too long to take down. It was just dragging along too much. Here is my simple statement I am doing 0/8 at level 30 with no set bonuses. Do you think I we won't be able to do 4/8 at level 50 with set bonuses ? I mean WE because its not like I am doing anything special. Dechs Kaison is the guy who thought up tankermind and posted some amazing things with his build at the time. All I did was expand on that. He liked his build even if it wasn't defense capped. As you can see his site is still linked in my signature. He taught me a lot about defense cap. No I don't think anyone can do 4/8 incarnate. Not because of the mobs but the end bosses. But I have done Pylons with with my last pet with demon pain. YES it took me a bit. Ate inspirations. But was able to do it with just last pet and whip attacks. You need to remember when you have like 10 level 50s all defense capped you get bored. You start to look for something to do. I had a Thugs dark ONLY for the guns before DP came out. But I have done AE missions with my trap toons. The biggest issues as I mentioned everything gets aggro. This includes force field generator. Which is pumping out a major part of your defenses. So you need to eat some purple luck inspirations until you get that rhythm going. Yea you get some bad starts and some cascade failure at times. But I assure you it all can be done. Give me time let me get him up to 50 and slotted out and we can do some testing and screen shots. Incarnate helps out TONS for any toon. -
Robot traps tankermind can do it. You could do comic con but the cave not the moon based one as it is too open for pets to accidentally run around. I have done it back in the day. Once I get to 50 I will let you know. lvl 30 atm.

I will tell you why provoke. Because your pets don't have those types of defenses and resilience. I was just testing it out with Just IOs last night at 30 so no sets at all. Defense is 38 across the board on positional. No issues. until I got greedy and jumped to 1/6 and I got killed. I was bit tired as well. I will try again tonight and again go 0/6 and see how it rolls. But back to provoke. It really just gets all the aggro on you. I use Sandolphan numkey pad and added the decimal key as all pets stay to prevent them from running and pulling other groups at me. But I can tell you I was fight 2 sets of groups with just having the pets attack and I provoke. They were all around me but with caltrops down they just keep running around. Its almost like the military broken arrow concept. I just picked at target and kept attacking as I dropped caltrops and used the wand and staff along with provoke. If they ran off I would pick another target because I knew they were coming back. Again no trip mines yet, so the pets are doing all the attacks. ATM Triage Beacon is just about equal with the recharge so when it expires I can drop another one down. I noticed I really don't need the triage beacon unless it is a broken arrow type situation and they are swarming me. They were even aggro'ing on the Acid Mortar. Trust me you don't need aid other because triage beacon does it all and again you can two up for 30 seconds.. Two acid mortars up as well. Caltrops you will have out 3 due to the duration time. Again the whole point is to just get all the attention and use your pets like a giant dot along with trip mines. I will play with the build some more to see if I can squeak out a bit more recharge on it. @ Rebel230 I will look at cold and see. But some sets just DO NOT afford the ability to tankermind or defense cap. EG I have a Corruptor DP Kin.. I use Hail of bullets to defense cap Melee defense because hail of bullets give positional defense bonus. But I could not get the recharge down enough where HOB is ready. I have it down to 30 second recharge. But prior to activating HOB I am at 33 Melee defense, so I get slammed sometimes. Thus I try to make Luck inspiration because I get end and heal from powers. I also had oppressive gloom and it was a really bad idea. I would die instantly from the aggro it produced. So I use a lucky insp and jump in and spam all the AOE attacks. I haven't tried any farming with him and I am sure I can't do 4/8. But I am sure I could do at least 0/8 with him. Traps for ANY archtype that can have it is your quickest, easiest and cheapest way to defense cap. But again let me look at some builds and set bonuses and see where we go. -

Double triage beacon. You basically trip mine, provoke and just continue to drop trip mines at your feet. using the keypad controls works best and you need to add stay on the period key to keep the pets behind you as you provoke and not to have them chasing mobs. Once you hit Zero numpad key for all mobs just hit 7 key to attack a mob.. and then you just need to stick to hitting Period key to stay and then 7 to attack. Provoke, Trip mine, 7 key, period key, Trip mine, Provoke, 7 key, period key. Its usually mobs behind you. Caltrops at tip of triage beacon triangle, You standing on triage beacon, Pets also getting hit by triage beacon, Just keep dropping Caltrops to keep the mobs moving. It will force them to move. But then your provoke will pull them back. Oppressive gloom works as a stun AND another form of aggro on you. Force field generator has to be behind you as well, because it will get aggro as well. when you get too many mobs.

Of course it is.. My build basically works as such. Trip mine, Provoke and just continue to drop trip mines at your feet. Bots stay behind you. @ TheAdjustor - I'm sorry but no clue what your saying. Your build is short in positional defense cap. The number is 45%. Pine is showing 41 melee, 40 range, 43 AoE. Further you should check your config settings as they are wrong and misleading you in some of your numbers EG resistance values. You are not maxed resistance. You are set for PVP as well. You also killed the recharge rate by 10 seconds. I am currently at 30 and picked up provoke. 38 defense cap with generic IOs no sets. Provoke is working extremely well. I think I am running 4/0 atm. Will up the team size first and see where I tank then up the mob levels -
Just wanted to say Great Idea regardless of how it would be done. Maybe just give a player a choice at 20 to go in one direction or another ? Like they do with Arachnos Soldier or Widow Again Great Idea regardless of the direction. I made a petless Demon mastermind just for the whip attacks. Was defense capped.

Nemesis Staff and Black Wand options/customization

Would it be possible to have the Nemesis Staff and Black Wand option to come out of a gun similar for example to Robot Master minds Pulse Rifle ? Just would be helpful for a player to keep the toon in the theme he created it with. Maybe charge the 500k fee for customization ?
