For the most part people are glad to offer help and most people are happy to get help. There's the occasional toxicity on either side but it still seems far and away to be the exception rather than the rule in my experience. Sometimes people come on help just to complain - either because they have the mistaken impression that someone there has power to change the parts of the game they don't like, or just to be mad. In those instances, there's often no salvaging the situation. On balance, I've found help chat to be mostly on-track and helpful and those asking questions to be mostly receptive. Then there's the 'what's the best ____?" questions - those people are sometimes frustrated at the lack of easy answers to ridiculously open-ended questions, but even then it rarely turns nasty.

Well, you could take this one of two ways. Since the defense you're getting from Guarded Spin is Lethal/Melee, it's not really helping you in the typed department since you have to overshoot the Lethal side to cover the Smashing side. Now, you could just ignore Guarded Spin and think of it as 'extra' defense that doesn't factor into your typed calculations. In that case you'd want to switch over into using Kinetic Combats to build up your Smashing/Lethal. Here's how a typed defense build might look: Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.0.1 https://github.com/ImaginaryDevelopment/imaginary-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! As an alternative, you can go Vigilante at Null the Gull in Pocket D using the Kings Row gate, then exit Pocket D in Port Oakes, where there's an Arena.

I love my KM/WP, went for a Carnival of Light theme and it came out beautifully.

Resist Based Dark/Fire Tank - KB Protection Question
Justaris replied to marcussmythe's topic in Tanker
I'd be curious to see how that goes. I generally build based on the protection given by the other Tanker sets, which with the exception of Grounded all give 10 points of protection, so that's the mark I usually aim to meet or exceed to consider myself protected. -
You can mitigate this somewhat with an Ageless Radial destiny, however, as this gives defense debuff resistance.

I also dropped a bit off Fire Sword to give you slots for the Panacea and Preventive Medicine procs. I swapped one of your LOTG +recharges out for the Karma and added another slot in CJ for the Blessing of the Zephyr and made the swap from Boxing to Kick since it costs you nothing and gives back some of the recharge we lose from giving up the LOTG and the Crushing Impact bonus. As far as the regen question, while it's a low hanging fruit item, it's also more a 'nice to have' as I said before and I'm not sure there's anything further to sacrifice here that really justifies their inclusion, so in this version I've left them off. I decided against dropping your Toxic resistances since while you're over cap in Psi you're not in Toxic and there is a fair amount of Toxic damage late game that you'll want that resistance for. I was also able to get you a bit more Energy resistance with Touch of Death 2-slots in Scorch and Fire Sword without giving up any of the other changes. On the subject of Preventive and Panacea, the former gives a large amount of absorb when your health reaches a certain threshold, which works nicely with the scaling resistance IO from Reactive Defenses to hopefully buy you a few more seconds when you're getting overwhelmed to get Dark Regen back up. Panacea helps with overall endurance management and doesn't cost as many slots as improving Stamina and with Cloak of Fear only two-slotted you could use a bit more endurance coming in. You're also sitting at a flat 25% defense to all, so just a few purple inspirations for those really tough fights will have you at softcap defense on top of capped resistances (to all but Toxic) - I think you'll be very happy with how tanky this will be. -
Resist Based Dark/Fire Tank - KB Protection Question
Justaris replied to marcussmythe's topic in Tanker
Maintaining resistances to this degree already has this as a pretty tight build, but I do think there are a few areas where you could see improvement for minimal investment. 1) KB protection. Unless you plan to primarily use Clarion destiny to maintain mez protection, you're probably going to want three -KB IOs to cover knockback or else you're going to get flung around a lot. You'll probably want a Steadfast Protection in one of the armor powers, a Karma in Cloak of Shadows or Combat Jumping and a Blessing of the Zephyr in Combat Jumping. That will give you 12 points of protection (for comparison, most other tanker primaries with KB protect give 10 points). 2) Panacea +HP/End. This IO gives you periodic bursts of both healing and endurance and I'd try to work it in alongside the Miracle and Numina uniques. You may also want to consider the Preventive Medicine chance for +Absorb IO as well. 3) Force Feedback: change for recharge proc in Kick. I recommend swapping out Boxing for Kick and putting a Force Feedback there, then just drop it into your attack chain. 4) Impervious Skin +regen IOs. These are non-unique so you can slot as many of them as you can fit into your various resistance-based powers and they'll add significant regeneration to your build. This falls into "nice to have" rather than as essential as the above since Dark Regeneration is so powerful that regeneration isn't as key as it might otherwise be in a different resistance-based build. The above changes are probably going to come at the expense of some of your DPS, though you're already over the S/L cap so you potentially move a slot or two from Incinerate without hurting your overall resistance numbers. I'd also point out that you can get DDR from the Ageless destiny since you mentioned not having it, but I think for this particular build the Defense is more icing on the cake than a main focus so you might be better served going with Rebirth. One of the biggest problems you're likely to have with this build is recharge debuffs, since as Resistance build you'll be getting hit with the full brunt of all the secondary effects from attacks. I'd strongly recommend investing the time to get the Geas of the Kind Ones accolade from Croatoa as a way to reverse this effect since it potentially moves your "I win" button of Dark Regeneration out of your reach. I also tend to favor Judgments that add to my tankiness in addition to doing damage, so you could consider either Void for -damage or Vorpal for +defense as extra layers to add to your survivability. -
Can you make a defense capped willpower tank or Invl/Ma tank build?

For interface, I like Diamagnetic or Degenerative, though Reactive is always a popular choice. For judgment, it's really up to you, they're all pretty good. Ion is easiest to use I think. For destiny, it's often good to have multiple options. My Rad defender has many t3s here. Rebirth gives you a massive heal which can be helpful. Barrier gives good armor and can rez your teammates. Clarion, as mentioned, gives mez protection. Incandescence can be handy on some trials and the increased healing it gives applies to all sources. Even Ageless can give defense debuff protection if you've gone for an IO defense build. Lore is down to preference really, though Longbow is handy for the debuffs and Seers can be good for the psy damage Hybrid you'll likely want Assault for the damage boost, though Melee can work well if you're running Choking Cloud.

What are some good choices for Canon based AE Missions?
Justaris replied to justicebeliever's topic in Mission Architect
I've recently recreated the arc I made on live, which is meant to dovetail with the canon backstory involving Omega Team, specifically Tin Mage. Feedback and comments welcome, Ex Machina, #11781 -
Yes, it's possible, but as the set has no native Defense of its own it requires a large investment in power selections and Invention Sets to accomplish. Taking a secondary which provides Defense (Broadsword, Katana, Martial Arts, Titan Weapons, Staff Mastery) could help if you go for positional softcaps - otherwise it's probably easier and less expensive to shoot for typed Smashing/Lethal/Energy/NegEnergy softcap. You also won't have any defense debuff resistance so you will be vulnerable to cascading defense failure - I'd consider an Ageless Radial destiny to cover that.

The main differences are the AT modifiers and Gauntlet vs Fury, though as mentioned there are a few cases where the powersets themselves have differences between the two ATs. Tankers have higher resistance caps and can usually reach a given mitigation goal more easily than a corresponding Brute. Where it gets complicated is in the details, of course - how much that edge is worth in practical gameplay is a debatable point and you weigh the extra latitude you have in the build from not having to invest as much to reach your defensive goals on a Tanker against the higher overall damage potential of a Brute. Personally I tend to prefer Tanker most of the time, but that's my own preference for having excessive survivability.

Recently discussed in this thread: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,6698.0.html Short answer is that Invuln is probably the easiest to build since all you really need to do is address the psychic damage hole, while the overall toughest is probably Dark Armor with Bio Armor, Radiation Armor, Shield Defense and Willpower all being very strong contenders. Opinions vary on whether Elec belongs on that list or as a more mid-tier powerset. Stone used to be considered king, but it's built around Granite Armor and you take some pretty significant penalties while using that - and without it, the set doesn't quite measure up to the others. Ice and SR, being Defense sets, don't generally see as much benefit from Inventions but if build properly can still be very tanky. Fire is mainly used for something other than tanking.

I remember you from the PvP Boot Camp arena stuff, @Bambi. Glad to see you back.

You need to use it before casting the power you want to boost. Farsight is a good example. Also works with Vengeance.

I've got a Time/Beam Defender that I wouldn't mind playing in a team like this. He's a level 12 now, hero. @Justaris

Overall this is very solid. One of the biggest things I would try to work in would be the Theft of Essence proc for Dark Regeneration, as this is a huge benefit for that power. It does mean breaking up the six-slot Numina, but if you substitute another Mako's Bite into Boxing in place of Hecatomb you can make that up and keep yourself at 45% for ranged Defense. I'd actually recommend a frankenslotting approach to Dark Regeneration as it's so key to Dark Armor and much of the enhancement to the power itself is unnecessary with a six-slotted Numina since the heal is so strong at baseline. I'd rather have some accuracy thrown in, maximized recharge and the aforementioned Theft of Essence proc. You may also want to consider a bit more knockback protection as 7 points is good but doesn't fully protect you from everything. I think one more -KB IO for 11 points of total protection would be a better bet. This would likely be most easily accomplished with a Blessing of the Zephyr or Karma placed in Combat Jumping. For comparison, you get 10 points of protection from those Tanker primaries which include KB protection (aside from Elec's Grounded, which gives more than 15 but only works when on the ground) In terms of Incarnate choices, Agility gives a lot of value here to help shore up your Defense numbers and help out your DPS via better recharge. I'd also recommend Ageless Radial as a Destiny incarnate choice, as it provides much-needed defense debuff resistance to help protect you from cascading defense failure woes. Slimmatt posted a build as I was typing this out and while it does many of the things I've talked about (aside from having only 8 points of KB protection), it is a radically different build which aims for for S/L and melee softcap rather than positional softcap as the original build did. This is a very different build in terms of design rather than a refinement of what was originally posted. For the OP, you could absolutely follow that route, but it wouldn't be a positional softcap build anymore and I think you can still maintain that goal while making the tweaks I discussed. That said, you will likely be trading recharge and DPS potential to achieve that as it is a difficult threshold to reach.

There is a veteran badge with this name, but it seems like you're describing something different. I'd be interested to know if anyone else can shed any light on this.

Glad to see it got sorted out before I even got a chance to see this post. Hope you guys enjoy, it's a been a fun spin on the usual Defender playstyle. You might be using version 2.21, you need 2.22 or newer for the new enhancements. He used Preventative Healing (new] in RA, Supreme Entombed (winter set) and Unbreakable Guard (new?) Just for the sake of completeness, the set in question in Neutron Bomb is the superior version of Vigilant Assault. The other three sets are as outlined by Boppfarm above, though the names technically are Preventive Medicine and Superior Entomb respectively (Unbreakable Guard is correct). Just mention this because wrong spellings may cause problems when doing searches at auction. Superior versions of ATO and Winter sets are made by using an Enhancement Catalyst on an enhancement from the corresponding regular set. Entomb -> Superior Entomb and so forth.

Teleport-based initiation is convenient but certainly not necessary. You can easily just run up and use an AOE attack and/or a Taunt to grab aggro. It's important to put out some damage as that's part of how threat is calculated, but I wouldn't feel trapped into taking a teleport attack or Teleport if it didn't naturally fit into your build otherwise.
-
Not in the same build, though you can have multiple builds and swap between them. Elude is only for Night Widows but several other powers like Mind Link are available to both but with different base values depending on which you are.

Is this still going? Sounds like fun
